Hey,

I have a slightly loud belt tensioner pully at start up and it goes away after warm on my 03 accord with 112K miles. I sprayed a little wd-40 on it to isolate the noise to the pully and definatelly the pully. Anyone know if I can spray lube this or am I prolonging the replacement. I know on my 98 civic I had that the pully had to be replaced (same noise) The dealer told me they 98's were known for that due to the close proximity to the ground/road. Thanks, Rob

I am unaware of the issue in a '98....:dunno:

This may help....this is how it's inspected.

i think he was referencing a 98 civic. although the tensioner pulley in my 99 v6 died.. it was crackling some and there was a little play when i had the belt off. can't have anything to do with 160k worth of northern miles:dunno:

back to the OP, there's no maintenance on the sealed bearings and theyll probably seize up someday

Replace the tensioner. It may last a zillion miles but why deal with the chance that it may freeze up and stop you in your tracks?

you can get just the pulley if thats all thats making the noise..

I had had Acura CL-S and the tensioner started making noise at about 40,000 miles after 5 years. More of a grinding/rattling noise. It was about 150.00 parts/labor for replacement. It was louder when the higher the revs when it it was in neutral.
