Hey guys,

Been reading this forum and just picked up my silver Accord EX I4/auto sedan today and decided to sign up :)

I went to the Honda dealership initially looking for a Civic, as I was looking for reliable transportation with good fuel economy.

But when I saw the Accords I had to take a test drive in one, I liked the roominess alot better and had to have it :).

Can anyone comment how these new Accords handle in the snow? I live in the Buffalo NY area, and it's been awhile since I've driven a FWD sedan (my last vehicle was a Toyota 4x4 pickup).

That was the only thing I was kind of worried about....

Tom

Welcome to the club Tom

Post some pics when you can . Someone else will have to chime in on the snow handling, but I'm sure the VSA is a big help.

Welcome, don't know about the snow yet in my new accord, but my 06 was OK, never had a problem going anywhere. But then again, on Long Island, we don't get anything in snow totals like you do.

haven't drove in snow yet... but when we had a couple of inches, it was fine. comparing to my s2000, it's a walk in the park!

My 08 Accord handles the snow, hard packed snow and ice great. But of course at speeds according to road conditions. And like any vehicle under carriage clearance is a factor or you will be hung up. And I have 4 Michelin X-Ice tires and feel they are are major factor.

I lived in NW PA right on lake Erie for most of my life. Our lafe effect snow conditions were similar to Buffalo. Even tho all Accords come with traction control, snow tires will make the biggest difference. If you can afford the initial expense of a separate set of steel rims and 4 snow tires, you won't regret it. You'll save $50 every spring and fall because the tires don't ahve to be remounted to the factory wheels. The factory alloys won't be exposed to winter weather - notably salt used to keep the roads clear. And if you do slide into a curb - its only a steelie, not the alloys. And, when getting snow tires you can go minus one - a more narrow tire is better in the snow.

The cost evens out over a few years. You're sumemr wheels and rubber will last longer because you're using them less, too.

The OEM tires are OK in the snow but don't compare with snow tires in the type of weather you get up there.

Trip,

When you say "you can go minus one -" re; a narrower tire, would that be a 215 instead of the stock 225?

Exactly. Use this tire calculator to figure out what a proper minus 1 fitment would be:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Using the proper downsize will help keep the speedometer accurate. If you don't care about it, you don't have to. But ALWAYS use 4 of the same sized tires/rims on all four corners - especially with cars that VSA.

I have not only gone more narrow, but I always went with a smaller rim. I ran 15 inch steels wheels on my 2006 EX in place of the standard 16 inch alloys.

If I was still in snowy PA, I would even consider stepping down to a 16 inch on my 08 coupe from the OEM 18s - that is if the smaller size could clear the rotors and calipers.

Hello and welcome!!! Just got my 08 coupe. I'm a little south of you and we had a little ice today but nothing to brag about. My car seemed fine with the stocks on it. I went to school in rochester so I know what you are facing. I drove a lowered civic up there in the winter!!! I used to carry a shovel in the trunk just in case i had to dig myself out hahahaha. I think you'll be fine with some snow tires. This car sems to have great traction. honda really did their homework on the suspension as shown by the raping in the slolomn tests c&d did.
