OK people,

I would really like to see some more activity on this board.
Boards like this can become invaluable resources, but only when you get strong participation from the members.

So if you are still around and check in on this board from time to time, please take a moment to reply to this thread and let us know you are still here.

Thanks!

I'm here and read the forum religiously. I'd wish there is a way that we could generate more interest.

Great! So there is life out there! :)

I have a feeling that many people are checking the forum out, but are not posting / participating because they see almost no activity. And I can't really blame them for that.

Thanks for the post Ed... glad to know others are around.

I wish there were more postings too, but I guess we are happy with the vehicles we have. If we were unhappy, we'd say so. If we wanted to add stuff to the car, we talk about it some but don't beat it to death.

I like the installation instructions and service bulletins provided by this site.

I do have one complaint though. I just got my first chip on the hood. I have paint protection film, but the rock hit right on the lip, just below the protection. I can relax now, my car isn't new anymore.;)

Glad you like the bulletins and instructions. Takes a while to put that stuff together. I've got all the 4-door instructions now, so just go to find the time to get them uploaded.

Tell me what you like or don't like. The site is for all of us. So, think of it as your site too. After all a site is only as good as the people to use it.

Thanks for hanging out with us.

I was thinking about this last night, and I wonder if part of the problem is that we only have 116 members? I'm also on the yahoo groups honda group and that thing has a ton of activity. Granted, its not all accord related, but still, the activity is there.

Consider it done. Here is the hastily prepared message I posted today. Hopefully we’ll get more excitement going.

I don’t know how many people have seen this site, but it is similar to the Yahoo Groups but it is specifically for the Honda Accord. I’ve used both of these sites while making the decision to purchase my new accord. The site sites address is: http://www.driveaccord.net/. We’re trying to building up the membership and interest to talk about accord specific issues.

How long has the board been around? About the only thing I could think of is to get the word of the site out. From what little I've been around this site, everything looks to be pretty good! Excellent job to the administrator, keep up the great work!

If I may, I'd like to suggest some interesting threads that I've seen used on the ACURAMDX.org forum. (If these are already part of the Accord forum, excuse me for not knowing --its a new guy thing). Polls on different car-related topics can be popular threads (rate your Honda dealer) as are photos of cars, owner's homes, etc. Someone in the Acura group designed a business card with the site URL to give to other owners like us who may not know of this group. It can be downloaded or printed. The Acura site has a classy looking silver window sticker to advertise the group's URL. Group buys are always well received with discounts when a certain number of buyers is reached. Tim has offered lots of good deals as have others. (As long as it doesn't get too commercial.)
I hope to learn a lot about Hondas (now that the Hondas in our family outnumber the Acuras.

I still pop in occasionally.

I'm always looking for more repair/maintenance info for my personal database. I plan on going the long-haul with this vehicle (300K miles), so there in lies the reason for my interest in the above topics.

I follow quite a few Accord boards and if the activity wanes, I tend to stray.

Good luck with this site.

Keep up the good work.

Hey I'm still here.

Just that my 2003 Accord does not have any problems except for one that I may have induced.

After I installed some sound system upgrades which included a wiring harness adpater for a bazooka sub woofer the AM radio now has extemely weak reception. FM works fine even when I drive into the 3rd, (bottom) level of our subterrainian parking structure Only AM is affected.???

Im stumped!

I'm here as well. I also spend time at Acuramdx site. Maybe more people will become interested when they start to experience more problems.
One just needs to look on the NHTSA web site to see the number of problems emerging on 2003 Accords.

It is no wonder that the President of Honda is on a Quality rampage!!!

Yeah, but you can pretty much look at any car on that site ie mazda 6 and see a wack of problems with that car too... for the amount of cars they build and sell,, its simple statistics

I'm a new member, retired engineer. I check this board daily. Just bought a 2004 Accord 4Dr V6. Really like it. Can't wait to get a few miles on so I can put my foot in it. Wonder if all 240 of those horses are awake and ready to go?

I have owned three Nissan Maximas. Was turned off on the 04 Max by the shimmy problems reported on the boards. That's where the name comes from.

Hey you know being an engineer I have a question to ask you about your car. What method do you use to break it in? I've heard that the "high RPM runs for the first 50 miles" method works good, but I still don't understand how it would possibly work. Wanna give us your opinion?

Ex Max
01-14-2004, 08:41 PM
I just go by what ever the owners manual says for the particular car. It's interesting to me that Honda says not to cut short the first oil change. That seems to imply that there is some sort of special break in oil in their new cars. I have read that Honda oils have an unusually high amount of molybdenum. Usually I run about 500 miles and change oil. On this car I will leave the factory fill in longer. I have been using Mobil 1 in all my cars. Just took the valve cover off a 91 Maxima with 100,000 miles and it was very clean inside. Made me believe I am doing the right thing.

I think the "run it hard to break it in" thing started in the 50's when General Motors started using some hard chrome plated piston rings. If the engine was not run a little hard during break in the rings did not seat properly. (wear in to the cylinder walls) This caused the engine to use oil for the rest of it's life.

This subject can be debated endlessly and everyone seems to have an opinion. You can go to http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ and read more than you want to know about oil, engl Motors started using some hard chrome plated piston rings. BenjiBoy650

That's interesting because I heard from some people that if you run it hard during break in, it will use oil for the rest of its life. Others debate that Ferrari uses this method for their race cars and such and thus it is the right way but I doubt that. It seems like they're just doing this to get max power from a tight engine in a short amount of time. They rebuild their engines every other hour anyway so it doesn't matter how much oil it might eat at 100,000 miles.

Ex Max
01-14-2004, 08:50 PM
Well, I've tried to edit that post to make it look right with no success.

You could be right. I would imagine it is a function of the piston, ring and cylinder wall design and material selection. If you ran it too hard and scored the cylinder walls I suppose it would use oil.

Like I said this could be, and is, debated endlessy.

I can finally access this board. Thanks to the webmaster for finally responding - and thanks to Princess for letting me know someone noticed.

I purchased 2004 Accord EX V6 on 3/13/04 for $25002, out-the-door ($23,544 selling price).. This was $700 below dealer invoice and > $3,000 below MSRP.

This is my first Accord after 4 Camrys and an Avalon over the last 20 years. This car is truly amazing...I can't wait to get in it every day and go somewhere!

My only "complaint" so far is a buzz from somewhere in thefront drivers side corner, between the air vent and the door speaker. I can only hear it when I get booming bass from my music. I haven't tried tracking it down yest, but it's not any of the obvious things (speaker, keys, window, etc.).

Bought the splash guards from our site sponsor - putting them on tomorrow.

You'll be hearing more from me now that I can speak in public.

And I will post pictures as soon as I get some sunshine here in NJ.

Sweeet deal, good job! My dad has a '97 Camry and I can honestly say that after two Accords, then a Camry, then another Accord, Honda is superior by far. Well that's just me, but you seem to share that sentiment :) Have fun with your car!

What are the trim levels in Canada and what are the primary differences between them? Also I think Acura should take the Accord and make it into something of a big brother for the 1.7EL. I loved the 1.6EL, but I think the 1.7EL is too close to the Civic. What are they going to do with that name since they're moving toward names without numbers now? Plain old EL?

Kemo,

I haven't had a chance to formally welcome you yet, so...

Welcome! :D

I know you from the Pilot board. I registered when it first started. At the time, I was about to buy one, but since the wife and I are still DINK's, we really couldn't justify it just yet. So we waited and got the '04 Accord EXL V6 sedan. Mrs. Bean gets that and I get the hand-me-down. Funny how that works. :(

Anyway, I'm glad I waited on the Pilot now. I'm sure the tranny issue will be cleaned up, but it will be nice to own a newer one where the changes have already been implemented at the factory level. Also, I see from the Pilot site that the 05 EXLs will be getting a moonroof, as well as some other (pretty significant, imo) changes. That's the icing on the cake for me. I will be getting one in the near future.

Anyway, glad to have you on board Kemo!

Bean

Yup, its Bean on that board too.

In all honesty, that site was more enjoyable to me when it was smaller. Inevitably, when a forum grows to be that big, people seem to get "attitudes" (for lack of a better word). Thread Drift and cross-posting become the norm rather than the exception.

So far, we have none of that on this board. Probably because we are nowhere near the size! I'm sure we will go through our own growing pains.

I will surely be posting more on Honda-Pilot.org if I get a new Pilot...you can count on it!
