View Full Version : Size issues - Sedan and Coupe

I'm concerned that the new Accord Sedan might be too long for comfortable street parking, tight turning, etc. I read everywhere where it is categorized now as large since it gained 3 inches over the last Accord.

I also thought about the Coupe, which would have me going back to a 2 door after years with a 4 door, but it seems to have little space for the back. I almost never use the back seat other than as a place to put groceries when shopping, etc.

Any comments on either aspect of the car would be appreciated.

well i used to drive a neon, now the coupe...and while it is a big step up in size, i dont find it any more difficult to park than the neon. you do have to get used to it of course, but after that its easy. If anything easier because of the bigger windows on the sides and larger side mirrors.

If you dont have more than 1 passenger usually the coupe would be fine. The reason i say this is because the paneling along the door gets scuffed easily so constant people going in and out to the back would just make it that much worse. But the trunk is plenty big for groceries.

So my suggestion...get the coupe!

Actually, I think the backseat of the coupe is pretty roomy. The rear glass makes for a high beltline but there is plenty of leg and shoulder room.

The only limitations would be that the deeply sculpted seats are better suited for 2 people and the steep rear glass would be a head knocker for tall people (I'm 5'9 and have no problem). Put a third person back there and they have to ride on the hump and for sure they would be hitting their head on the rear window.

As for the groceries, get the trunk net. It's awesome. It has 4 separate compartments that can be changed and holds big and small items. Much easier and much more secure than trying to load/unload items into the back seat of a two door.

Do a search. I posted pictures up.

I have the sedan and I really don't see a big difference from my 06 to this new one in regard of tight turning, street parking, etc. I do love the V6:D

The more I drive it, the more I love it.

I believe it's only the interior that just squeaks into EPA "large car" territory (and only then if it doesn't have a sunroof) (iirc)

It has a tighter turning circle then my Mazda Wagon did and despite being a bit longer and wider, I don't think it presents any parking issues.

Honestly, I find all the "It's so huge now!" talk a bit exaggerated.

I'm still trying to get use to the size of the Accord sedan myself. I'm use to drivng my RSX. I still gotta perfect how to park it and such. I can back up into a parking space and feel like im about to hit something but when I get out and check, I'm like 2-3 feet away from the object/car. Should of got the back up sensors...

all in all, I love my Accord!

The only real size difference I notice in my Gen 8 Coupe over My Gen 7 is the wheels.

Now that I have 18" wheels with a small side wall, I have to be much more careful when parallel parking. I have put 2 slight scratches in the passenger rear wheel right at the edge of the wheel from tapping the curb.

I still hate backing out of my underground parking. Since you can’t see the sides of the car due to the tapering off (Gen 7 too) of the body panels it can make it hard to back out when you have 2 walls on either side of you.

Friends have told me that the back seat is roomy and the trunk is suitable for my needs.

i'm actually coming from an S2000 to a coupe.. so there is definitely getting use to the size. if you have family... then i say go with the 4 door cause it will just be more beneficial to you and your family.
definitely a lot more roomy seating wise... driver and passenger. backseat... i dont know. didn't put anyone there yet so i have no clue.
trunk is definitely bigger.. but definitely needs a net to keep things not rolling around everywhere.

but size wise, i had to really get use to it. coming from the S2000, when i got into the car first time after purchasing... i thought i was driving a bus!!!!!

I'm always amazed at how much stuff can fit in the coupe...it definitely is large (it kills my small benz sedan) and is quite a trade off of capable view when whipping my head around twd's the back...but I've seen much much worse from the selection of sedans and coupes out there (looking at you Malibu sedan and Altima coupes)

I have the 4 door and I find parking very easy. The handling is quick and responsive as well so you don't have to turn wider. The sedan also as much more back room than the coupe and its easier to get in and out.

I'm quite happy with the space in the Accord Coupe. I"m 6'3" tall, and previously I had never driven in a car where my knees didnt brush up against the steering wheel. Hell I could even keep my knee straight and hit the brake pedal due to the large adjustability of the steering wheel column. It may block my view from seeing the total mileage or trip, but being able to move the steering wheel up so high makes me feel extremely comfortable.

I've also had people ride in the backseat and tell me I could move back when my seat was already as far as it could go.

I actually have a much better turning radius than my G20 did! The back seat fits 2 adults comfortably :)
