Not exactly the same problem, but a question?? Does anyone know if it is true that CD's with owner applied labels will peel back and gum up a car cd player?? I have transferred a bunch of tapes to CD and of course took the time to print labels for them before someone at work mentioned they shouldn't be used iin a car player. too much heat, the label unsticks, clogs up the player. Does anyone have any experience pro or con on this subject??

snakehair,
You should start a new thread for this question. It will make it easier for someone to search later.

This is absolutely true...you should NEVER use CD's with adhesive labels in a car CD player. I had to have my whole player swapped out in my Odyssey because of this - under warranty of course;) . But I was warned to keep the labels off in the future.
Labeled CD's are fine in a player with a tray mechanism (computers, home audio), but not in players the use the disc sucking technology to load the disc.

Thanks for the reply. I guess it is back to the burner for label free copies to take on the road. I have also heard using the regular Sharpie permanent marker is a no-no and they make special markers for CD's (??) Something about whatever the marker uses for permanancy will eventually ruin the CD.

i use sharpie's to label all of mine and i have yet to encounter a cd thats ruined by it.
i need to buy an overhead projecter type marker (wet erase) to label my CD-RW's. did you know the accord's head unit can play CD-RW's? i was jumping up and down. :D

Would the ban on labels just apply to front loading car players or would that also be true of front loading players at home like the new Bose?? I understood it was the heat generated in car systems that made the labels peel back. I do know the CD's are very warm when removed from the car player. Haven't felt the same heat from the Bose at home.

I would think that would be specifically addressed in the owners manual for the Bose. If it isn't, I wouldn't take the chance on fouling up an expensive system like that...

I use permanent markers also and have had no problems.

When the label starts coming up............try using a stapler to put it back down.:D

We use a marker on the audio discs & print pretty labels for the DVD's.... so far it's worked for us...
I couldn't find the staple gun.....it must be out in the garage!:D I bet if I stapled them I'd never have to worry about the labels.......;)

I'll see your stapler and raise you a nail gun.
Checked Bose literature and no warning against labels. Would of been too late as wife had fed the beast several home labeled CD's by the itme i worried about it. No problems. Guess car player generates or retains more heat.
Thanks for all the inputs. I am a little nervous playing around stuff I can't fix or afford to replace too often.
