My Question is will HID drain my car battery?

i have a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan, Since my car has the Auto On Option.
Will HID drain the battery because of the Auto On and Off.

Sorry if this question has been posted.

2008 Accord Sedan Manual, page 69, left column. It shows the AUTO mode for the headlights.

Auto-on turns on head light at dark ambient conditions, or I believe someone had stated that the lights are turned on for a fixed period of time then turn off when a door is opened, presumbly for convinence as well as safety purpose.

What hurts HID life span is most from constant turning on and off the ballast, you will not drain the battery unless you left the lights on on manual mode.

Personnaly I would prefer to manually turn on the headlights so the doors opening will not cause my headlights to also turn on.

I was behind a Jetta last night which also doesn't have projectors like the sedan, and that idiot was using like 8000k lights. I was so pissed I wanted to get out of my car and bust his lights out. I know you'll have a target on your head when you go by cops, do yourself a favor and get retro projectors in your car if you are going this route. If I was a cop I would be writing tickets for this and people who don’t use their turn signals more than anything else.

you're exL should have auto on feature. it wont drain your battery. and the auto on will actually cut off if you dont have the keys in the ingition. i heard that it's really bad for HID kits with Ballast to be turn on and off. frankly i dont really care. if the kit blows out.. then i'll get a new one. ($74 a kit..)
sedans dont have projectors though.. so be careful.

My TL has the auto on/off feature and I prefer to manually turn it on/off. The reason - every time I'm in slow-moving traffic here in New York, the lights go on when I drive under an overpass, then a few seconds later, they go off as I emerge into daylight. Then it happens a few more times which I know isn't good for my HIDs. Then again, since I got my TL over a year ago, I forgot to turn them on at least a of couple times when I was in a well-lit parking lot. Keeping them in 'Auto' would have prevented that.

He's was talking about citing people for using HIDs without projectors...much like you were alluding to in an earlier part of your post. This also explains why the cop wouldn't pull you over--you have a Coupe, therefore projectors, thereby NOT blinding everything in the Western Hemisphere.

Behind a state trooper in the new Armada with 5000K HIDs (non-projector housings), and not stopped for anything. Have 6000Ks in my AV6, no citations there. Drive on two-way highways DAILY with local area sherriffs officers clocking speeds with laser, and never been pulled over... and those areas have THE MOST anal officers in the Southern La region.

What you're saying about getting pulled over for "odd-ball" headlight colors is likely true. However, not ALL HIDs in halogen housings will warrant a citation by an police officers. Unless you have purple, blue, green, or yellow headlights, officers don't care about HIDs vs halogens... unless they are blatently aimed so high as if used like high beams. I do agree, in part, with any color temp higher than 6000K seems senseless. That's just for show. Projectors are better for focusing, but re-aiming NEEDS to be done for WHICHEVER route one chooses (retro or otherwise).

does anyone have the recipe for "cooking the headlight housing"?

Yeah with the projectors that come in the coupe you are str8 to install HID and not blind everybody because of the cut off point in the projectors. That may be different for the sedans that dont come with projectors like the coupe. I have 6000k HID's in the Headlights and the factory fog lights. No problems here. I love the HID's and reccomend them highly for this car.

just a thought but could we or i should say could a mod. create a sticky post addressing any and all HID questions?

those who have already done the conversion could chime in and give their two cents, experiences, etc.

hopefully it could address install, aiming the cut off, reputable brands/stores/links, etc. i think that would clear up any clutter or needless topics being repeatedly posted about essentially the same thing.

HID actually use less power than normal Halogens but put out alot more light! Downside to them is the more you turn them on and off the more chance you have of one of the ballasts going bad on you. The ballast's (there are 1 for each side) dont like being switched on and off alot. Overall HID's lights are FTW IMO!
