View Full Version : Key-switched fuses?

Hey, folks, kind of new around here, but a long-time Accord owner.

As I mentioned in another thread, I like to hardwire the power for as many things as I can to keep things as clean-looking as possible. As it stands now, I have power wired in for my radar detector and DVD player, and I'll likely be adding one for my Garmin.

My question is this. Are any of the fuses key switched? I tried a few on the passenger side that I thought could/should be, but all of them were powered all the time. It'd be much better to have the Garmin on a keyswitched fuse, as that way I wouldn't have to worry about powering it on and off every time I get in or out of the car.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have my Garmin on a key switched fuse. i believe its tapped off of the back of the cigarette lighter.

I had my radar detector tapped in off my ignition switch wire. That wire is key on and off.

It looks like none of the fuses in the fusebox are keyswitched; the cutoff must come farther down the line. That kind of stinks, because I didn't want to have to wire directly to the cigarette power adapter. Oh well, no huge deal.

I hardwired my Garmin last night and the 2 blank accessory spots on the driver side fuse box are switched and powered on by the key. With them being blank and no fuses in them you can just use a light tester to see which side of the fuse powers on with the key. I believe the banks are bank 1 and 2 that are accessory.

I ran mine without the fuse in there and made it so the wire plugged in and ran a inline fuse link.

Good luck, and I can try to take a pic if need be.

Wow, thanks for the info. I'd only been testing the ones on the passenger side, as they're much easier to access. I'll give that a shot when I get my hardwire cable.

Out of curiosity, how did you run the power cable? I have my Garmin mounted on the dash above the information display, and I'm wondering about the best way to run the cable.

Here's a few pics where mine is located,I really rather have it in the middle somewhere but don't wanna take everything apart or drill or make holes for wires. In the pic from further out you see that tan rubbber strip, i pulled that out and put the wire behind that.

Also a quick pick as where my power wire is in the fuse box.Not the best tring to take it on my back..lol

I'm using 2 spots on the fuse box that are key activated. Not sure which ones. Test them all with a multimeter to see which ones they are.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm going to order the hardwire cable from eBay tomorrow, and I'll try the fuse slot shown in the photo. I'll let you know how I make out. :)

What size fuse did you use? 3A?
