I'm sure this subject has been beaten to death, but I would like to know people's opinion on whether they would use regular or syntheic blend if it was the same price. I was at Walmart today and noticed they had Ford Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W-20 for 2.42 a quart. Checking the other brands (regular), they were either the same price or more.

It has in fact been beaten to death as if it were a cat, it's been beaten to death so many times. However, since you've asked, the consensus on this forum - at least the parts I've read - is that the Motorcraft blend is super primo stuff and a tremendous value. Some here swear it is the best oil period, as I seem to recall. If it's between the dino and the blend, definitely go blend.

So, I should probably go to Walmart and clear them out of the stuff, right?:)

If they're the same price, then there's no reason to use conventional oil. There is no downside with using synthetic or synthetic blend oils... except cost.

BTW, I've NEVER paid over $2/qt for conventional oil. You should be able to find it cheaper at most autoparts stores. In fact, when it's on sale, you should be able to find it less than $1/qt.

not to start a huge discussion, because it has been beaten to death a few to many times, but it really depends on your cars condition. if it is a newer car you can put synthetic in it with no problem, but i would go with a synthetic blend just to keep the costs down. but if you have an older car that has allot of miles, and has never had synthetic in it, then i would not even put a synthetic blend in it, due to the leaks, and other problems it can cause, trust me on this one i tried to use it in the accord, and all hell broke loose, it started leaking oil really bad on the spark plug tube seals, and oil pan. i had to replace the gaskets to stop it. the oil leak was not bad at all until i used the synthetic blend...

It's for the 07' Accord.

I haven't seen motor oil for less than $2 down here in FL since the Jurassic Period.:lmao:
Believe me, I've looked. Maybe it's cheaper up north where you are. :dunno:

Bobistheoilguy forums as well as many oil gurus here all highly recommend the Motorcraft. I would use it in my truck if it was available in a 0-20.

There is really no need to "buy them out" though. The oil is always there (unless someone can say different) so it isn't a special price or anything.

Oops! I forgot, this is Walmart. "everyday low price", right?

Advance Auto has BOGO on Valvoline synthetics all grades until March. It's $5.48/qt. So about $2.74 each and it's a very good synthetic. It's showed excellent UOA on our accord per BITOG members.

Buy a whole case.

Was this on the 97??? I changed over to the syn blend at 150k on a 99 and it seemed fine. Of course I had it since new with mostly hwy miles and regular oc's.

Case comes in twelve, right?
The Accord does about 500 highway miles a week. From what I've heard on this forum, it won't really need synthetic. The only reason I'm considering the MC synthetic blend is because regular oil is no cheaper and some brands are actually more expensive.

I want to use synthetic on my beloved 96' Prelude VTEC, but the car has 115k and I'm afraid of what might happen after hearing horror stories about gasket leaks and the sort.

I'll probably take the BOGO opportunity to stock up for the IS350. The sucker takes 6.6 qts. of 5W-30. Anybody know how much oil the new Accord V6 takes? Just wondering since the engine size is the same as the IS.

As some have shared MC Syn Blend is a top notch offering.. don't let the price or Ford brand (aka MotorCraft) fool you

I started using MC syn blend at least 12k miles ago and haven't looked back since!

Would you do MC synblend or full synthetic if the price difference was about fifty cents per quart?

If it were a TRUE FULL synthetic that I had done research on and found some good solid UOA's on I'd go full syn...

BUT since you are buying based on price you need to ask yourself will the price go up? If you are buying based on a sale price I would just do syn blend at the everyday low price & take comfort in the knowledge that I am using an oli that many have used and gotten solid performance out of

This past weekend, Checker's Auto had Pennzoil for $2.99/qt with a $2/qt mail-in rebate. With tax, it ends up being about $1.16/qt.

Seems like they always have oil on sale there. I've purchased Quaker State, Chevron, Mobil and Havoline all when it was on sale.... at a case at a time.

Well, I went to a different Walmart and they had the MC in 5 qt. jugs for only $10.36. Only had two though. Guess I'll just check every time I go. :)

Never heard of Checker's Auto. The two big chains they have down here are Advance Auto and Autozone with a few scatterings of PepBoys and NAPA. Autozone currently has a sale of 5 qts. of Quaker State & an STP oil filter for $11.99, but I that's only marginally cheaper than the Motorolla and I have ten unused Honda filters ready to go!:D

Checker is owned by CSK Auto Inc... the same company that owns Schuck's Auto Supply, Kragen Auto Parts and Murray's Discount Auto Stores.

They don't have any stores in the south and eastern US.

YOU BET YOUR $%@&%* I DID!

With the volatility of oil prices, I'm probably just going to buy a jug or two every time I go. We put more than 500 miles a week on the Accord, so oil changes will be more frequent than usual compared to our other vehicles.
