After complaining about not receiving my sample, it came in today. I'm very happy with it. I drove faster and harder than I ever have. Nothing surprising with the 2.4L. Iron is a tad higher but it's so low to begin it doesn't bother me at all. Driving conditions/climate did change for this run. Tbn is strong. Vis for this oil starts at 8.5 cSt. I have M1 0w20 in the car now and will do another sample once the oil has about 12k miles on it.

2005 Accord Coupe

Looks stellar to me. Is this API SL or SM? A half quart add in 6200 hard miles is nothing to complain about. I would check it at 10K in fear of a very low TBN at 12K. If it continues in the current manner I'm guessing 12K will be the absolute max. Is this Blackstone lab?

Hi RT, it's the SM version. :)

I run 0w-20 in our cars. I don't send it in for testing. But do run it 10k mile between oil changes. Neither car uses enough to be seen on the dip stick. I did let the Accord go once to 15k miles. The valves got loud. Meaning you could hear them, opposed to not beable to really hear the engine run at all.

Good Luck

You got a long commute Buster? Your fuel dilution is really low. What's TBN?

I make lots of 10-15 mile trips and average maybe 1000 miles a month. Dilution is a concern for me and I'm kinda cheap to pay for an oil analysis.

Hi, yeah my commute is about 100 miles round trip. Takes me about an hour to get to work.

I usually average 80 + mph.

I've been running Mobil 1 5w20 for 4-5 years now. Its made repeating 12-15k service intervals on:

1993 Mazda MX6 V6-KLZE JSpec 2.5L @ 11:1 compression + cams
2004 Nissan Sentra SE/R Spec-V w/ Nismo Cams + some bolt ons
2006 Honda Accord V6 6MT no need for the bolt ons

All cars have came out of their Oil dungeons with only a modest discoloration of the oil (barely brown!). All three of these cars had/have noisier valvetrains than I would like to begin with, but only the Mazda would exhibit noisier lifters after 8k miles. Granted, this is the motor that also revved to 8000 rpms using a severely primitive hydraulic lifter. Great technology for its time, though. :)

Mobil One? Plus one.

So you are saying the noisy valve trains of these cars, including the 06' Accord quieted down with Mobil One?

Blackstone doesn't measure fuel dilution. It is a calculated number based upon open cup flashpoint testing. The result is not very sensitive.

The silicon number is pretty low. How often do you replace your air filter?

Yup, I think M1 5w-20 is the answer for me and my 10k OCIs.

next time try Penzoil Platinum, it yields better UOAs on BITOG
For some reason M1 always has higher Fe numbers over many other oils. But then again - 11 PPM is not bad anyway...

You know that 10 ppm is definitely within "noise level," right?

On a grand scheme of things it is noise, but from UOAs on BITOG I remember seeing more "noise" coming from M1 over other oils...
I'll try to look them up after work.

I currently have 382,000KM on a 4 cyl 2003. My oil lab figures are about 10% better. I use Amsoil nano filter and Amsoil 0W30. The change interval is 30,000KM. I drive mostly highway. I use about 1.5 quarts extra makeup oil. I have just performed a first engine flush. I am now trying the Amsoil 0W20 synthetic just to see what difference in milage and wear it has.

1 quart of oil burned every 10K miles = 1ml (an insulin syringeful) every 15 miles.
