Ouchy syncronizer!!!!! Is that 1st or 2nd gear?? that is usually not a normal part failure.
I have seen that before, that looks like someone has been forcing into gear.. possible slam shifting....
Not a good sign.
The gears in the pic look to be OK

that's the next oddity..... it's 5th gear.....

That is strange!! 5th gear syncro's usually don't get that sort of damage. What transmission is it? Is it in a truck? (Ford ZF)??

not quite a truck. it's a 6 speed all wheel drive trans from a 2001 Porsche 911 turbo....... going to have to have our district rep from porsche deside if it's a warrantable repair or not.

ahh, a porsche, i believe that could be the "problem" right there! :D

Sweet!! Carrera4! does it have the short shift kit installed??
I would have to talk to my Porsche buddies to find out if there are any noted problems.
I could see a possible problem if kit was installed improperly and creating a bind into 5th. It would be Kind of hard to slam 5th anywhere on US roads(considering you would be doing over 130mph when you hit 5th) Now if the car had been run on the track it may be a different story.
Still can't imagine someone raking that syncro.?? Unless it was done at speed!!
Let me know what service rep has to say..

no short shifter. that's about the only mod it doesn't have. I know the car has been tracked before, but not for a while previous to this.

anysia... porsche's handle abuse very well, but if someone tries to drive fast that doesn't know how to drive fast, they can damage things...

I1.....
got an email from our rep today, sent to us and porsche tech assistance. he presented a pretty silly, yet possible senario.... basically saying that car sitting at idle with parking brake applied, someone could have tried to get something from the back seat, leaning back, knee hitting shifter into 5th gear position. LOL.. possible, I guess, but 5th on that car is to the side and forward, which would make that hard, and would have to be pushing it for more than the 1 second it would take to hear bad noises and such and move leg off shifter..... will post email tomorrow.... he's funny. now waiting for opinion from tech support....

lol! they'd have to take abuse pretty well. think about how most people tend to drive them! even if you are very skilled, most people would still abuse it a bit! ;)

but i can denifitely see where 5th would be hard to abuse much regardless!

actaully, many of our customer's are quite old. LOL. late fifties and older, I don't think most of them do too much abusing. this is even the first in my 7 years with porsche of a question of abuse being the cause of the problem.. that kinda suprises me even.

I was noting the shift pattern closely yesterday. I checked out 2
03 911 turbo's . Leaning to the back seat and pushing into 5th appears to be a little far fetched..(Does a Gymnist drive that one?)
I understand that pushing the shifter with car running and clutch not engaged can create that sort of damage, but???
Maybe someone with a gym bag or breifcase in drivers seat and hit the shifter :dunno:

Yeah Its amazing what they can think of.. Large Pizza Box or a host of other items...

Here's an interior pick so others can see for themselves.:D

they are comfortable interiors, but don't have the raw feel of the older ones, agree I1?

I think the older seats fit my frame better. At 6'4" the newer ones just dont do it for me. Now the new Carrera GT is a different story:thmsup:Really RAW!!
The Cayenne S is pretty nice also!! Yesterday was my 1st experience behind the wheel on one of those. ;)

I don't care for the cayenne only because it's too much audi and not enough porsche. porsche doesn't even build the thing..... we have one carrera gt in our area already, and another one coming in january.

obviously, from our rep implied, he officially said no warranty today. good side for the customer to make in not so bad is that his father-in-law is the head race tech at a local porsche race shop. www.kellymoss.com. so he picked up the trans from me at lunch, and brought it back "fixed" by the end of the day. said he put "race gears" and a steel synchro in for him. gotta put it back in the car and see how it works next week.
