View Full Version : Suggestions for R/O buffer
I have had this urge lately to just clean the crap out my car. Probably because its dirty 95% of the time thanks to snow/salt, etc. I try to keep it clean with at least weekly car washes but I'm now thinking ahead and I have wax and scratch-x polishing compound already I'm just thinking maybe I want to buy a buffer instead of doing it the elbow grease way. From what I've read it's pretty hard to mess up paint with a random orbital, is this correct? Which ones would you guys recommend? thanks a bunch.

It depends how heavy duty you want to get into it. There are three that come to mind......the Porter Cable, the Cyclo, and the Flex. I own the first two. The PC is the least expensive, then the Cyclo, then the Flex.

I forgot there is also the UDM (Ultimate Detailing Machine) available which is essentially a PC design that is a tad stronger.

Even though it seems like a bargian I'd still opt for the flex.. This machine feels so damn solid it's not funny.. German engineering:thmsup:
So is the flex a dummy proof machine? How about the UDM? I'm looking for a beginners one to learn the art of buffing/polishing.

So what you're saying is that the Flex is as reliable as a VW? Boo.

The PC or UDM are as dummy-proof as you can get.

Look at it this way.....the PC & the UDM are fool proof beginner models. They get the job done but take a bit more time. The Cyclo and the Flex are a little more advanced (and more expensive) but will do more correction a bit faster. A rotary is the ultimate machine providing you know how to use it, not for beginners.
