Car Wash Soap..

I have tried several over the counter brands.

Duragloss 901/902
Eagle One Wet
Megs Deep Crystal, NXT and Gold Class
Turtle Wax, Simoniz, Rain Dance, Blue Coral and more.

I have also used P21S Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo and
Autoglym body work shampoo.
I still would like to try poorboys wash but have yet to order.

Well from all those listed above I still fall back to my old favorite..
Duragloss. It gives the thickest suds and is the slickest I have used. It rinses in sheets.
Great soap and if your in the market for Car Wash Soap pop into a Carquest and pick some up. 901 - 16oz and 902 - Gallon

I just picked up a Gal today 19.99

What have you guys in the Northern region done to prefare for the salt season??? Do you take any preventative measures for this season?

We actually got down to 24F last night. I guess my remaining tomatoes will be harvested freeze dried. :^)

2 coats Klasse AIO 3 coats of Sealant Glaze on the paint and wheels... I've been using 4star Ultimate Gloss Enhancer for after wash with either Quick and Easy Wash or Poor Boys Spray and Wipe. I go to the car wash and spray off any large chunks before QEW or S&W. I also just replaced my air filter and cabin filters.
Coolant tested to -30 so I'm good to go:thmsup:
We dropped to 13F last night but the car is in the garage which stays at least 40F.

What do you guys suggest to make the tires shine? I'd like to buy in bulk in a container that has a nozzle that I can use to apply to an applicator to hit my tires with. I've tried all the over the counter garbage and none works great.

I use Eagle One for the tires after I have cleaned them good and buffed dry. Even then, it slings off a bit---no matter how careful I am to apply evenly, etc.

I use any cheap spray high glass foam I can find to hit the wheel wells.

Suggestions on the tire gloss/shine?

Thanks,
Curt

have you tried "shining monkey no spitting tire shine"? i've seen it in the import mags, but havent tried it. i've been meaning to buy some stoner's more shine less time, but i've never tried that either...

I just put AIO on my car damn that stuff kicks ass. I don't know though, I felt like I used a lot and it seemed to cover very little surface area. How do you guys apply it? With a wax applicator? I read the bottle and it said use a damp cotton cloth so that's what I did, seemed to work okay.

For tire shine I use Armor All, apply it with a paintbrush. Put lots on. Make sure the tire is DRY and CLEAN (use whitewall cleaner, but careful it will damage the wheel finish like crazy), and just stick it on. The longer you let it dry, the better. I had awesome awesome results that lasted for 2 or 3 weeks when I left it for 36 hours before driving.

Benji,
Application of AIO is best with a microfiber applicator or foam.
Apply thin, you need to go over twice to make sure you did not miss any areas. It is a big change from waxes due to the fact it is hard to see when applied... thin thin thin is the key...

Shumax,
On tire dressings it all depends on what you like hi or low gloss, matt finish etc....
I have used the eagle one but you have to wipe off.
The best tire dressing for your tires(health) is water based so if what your using is oily it is usually not water based.
I am currently using 303 aerospace.. not real glossy but very natural looking.. its water based.. if I have to drive within a hour of application I will make a quick wipe before rolling.. no sling.
The dressing sling can also be attributed to tire design(how many nooks and cranny's in the sidewall pattern.
Plain Jane armor all is a good product also it just doesn't last as long as 303 but it is cheaper!
Pick up a 2 pack of Eagle 1 tire dressing sponges at Auto Zone or Advance for a couple bucks they are great.
If you use water based dressing you can wash with soapy water and reuse., for Solvent/oil base I clean with mineral spirits.

i use klasse v-l-r on my tires. nice low-key shine, no spinning off. i hate the fake "plastic" look of other tire shine products.

just eagle one wet shine spray detailer cuz i ran out of my mother's stuff. thought i'd give it a shot. worked ok, but was too hard to get the smudgy/oily appearance off of the car. i'm keeping it in my trunk for wiping off bird crap and the like!

so far the mother's spray seems to work the easiest/best for me!

As far as tire care I must give the nod to "More Shine Less Time" from Stoner products. It is spray and walk away, period. The sprayer is very directional so you can easily control the area to be treated. It does not sling off and lasts for weeks, still there after washing the tires with high pressure.

One time gives a clean natural look, twice gives a sheen. At $35 a case delivered to my door, I'm hooked. It also works on black plastic, under the hood, hoses, etc.

Well I ordered some more goodies to try out after using up my Christmas gifts.

I am going to try out a new glaze coat called 4 star Ultimate Paint Protection.
http://www.premiumautocare.com/fostulpapr.html
Just to see if it is better than the Klasse SG.. still use AIO to prep before applying 4*UPP.

Also some Poor Boys SSR2.5(super swirl remover) and a new German Applicator(for Klasse)

But my favorite new product is Poor Boys World Spray and Wipe!! Great stuff for cleaning that daily dust and dirt from salt spray on roads.....Highly recommended:thmsup:

Let it warm up a little and I'll pull out my PC and try it out...
I have been trying to get my nephew to bring his Drk Green 98EX out and let me see how it works on his Swirl Mobile......
I may end up doing my sisters 97 LX Med Blue before his...
Both are in need of some TLC and swirl removal...
Unfortunately I am the only one in the family that gets into a swirl free car.. My dad was pretty particular about his cars too, but not to the extent I am.
My 1st car went through 4 back yard paint jobs before I was 17
67Impala 2dr light blue factory then Dark Green, Orange, Dark Blue and Black(The Deathmobile)
One of the guys he worked with gave him a bunch of paint, so as long as I masked it off it would get painted:D :D :D

That is a good price. I looked over the site & seems to be pretty decent. Have you purchased anything from them in the past.

They seem to be a rep for One Grand. I have their Wash, Glass Cleaner, ERV, & Plastic Polish, & maybe a couple others. I haven't tried the glass cleaner it. I have been using Wurth. Have you tried the Blitz Wax? I may try it after I finish my #20.

OK, my order from winners circle came today:banana:
The 16x16 towels are very nice, passed the CD scratch test and show no signs of stringing or pilling after washing.
The waffle weaves are good quality also... I will have to see how they work drying the car.
They are not as heavy or as big as the Big Blues I have and they don't have silk binding like the Big blues but for less than 1/2 the price I am quite sure they will work fine....

Heres a pic of the new greens with the Sams yellows, note the edge binding.

The best thing about them is No Tags to remove.
Did anyone else order from Rob and if so have you received??

Just finished cleaning the Van again after the Mrs. trip to Cleveland(They had about 8" snow earlier this week)
She was surprised when I called her at work and said I am taking the van. Her assistant mgr was in her office and offered up her keys also:blah: . Oh well maybe another day. I finished about a 1/2 hr ago and we are getting some freezing rain now:rolleyes:
I'll take it back around lunch time before I head out. It should just be raining then. At least it is salt free.

Well here's what 2 coats of AIO 3 coats of 4star UPP with 4star UGE between.

Reflection across hood, my neighbors Studebaker Champion

I am quite impressed with the UPP as a polymer sealant, and the Ultimate Gloss Enhancer gives it more depth than AIO/SG(at least on the Naples Gold)
Very similar to AIO/SG with Megs #16 pro wax, next I will probably end up topping the UPP combo with #16 and seeing how that looks.

I won a couple of Wolfgang products on another site, thanks to Auto Geek, and I am totally impressed with their performance. All are water based, very creamy to the touch, and really show off the finish.

One was the Prewax Polish Enhancer, the other was the Paint Sealant. These work like magic and don't leave the crevices full of crap nor do they leave white powder everywhere. Very little product is required of either. I've done five cars, one SUV, and still have enough of each for five or six more.

Easy application, easy removal, and a terrific durable shine is what it's about! PC buffer used in all instances but I've experimented with hand application and removal too. It also yields killer results but not as dramatic as with the PC.

I was so impressed that I ordered Wolfgang Glaze, Scratch/Swirl Remover, and a few other goodies. I've yet to use them but I have complete faith they will be as good as the freebies. HMMM, I need to reorder those too now that I think of it.

I spot tested both products against Meguiars similar products and Wolfgang just kicked ass..... there was no contest. The "M" products must endure the back shelf now with the Wolfgang out front.

I'll look into Poorboys next, I like the "can be used in direct sunlight" factor. That will be needed because the Kenworth I spoke of previously won't fit beneath the trees (shade) in my driveway. May have to do it in the mild & tropical Texas sun :paranoid:

Maybe I missed this amidst much searching, but...

What is the best car washing mitt/cloth to avoid swirling scratches? I've used a synthetic mitt for several years on other cars, but since it's time for my Accord's first wash, I want to start out right. I am in Kragen/Autozone territory if that helps.

A mitt with a good pile that will not mat or pill, I have heard others having luck with a-zone, just have to search for the best in the bunch..
You can have the best mitt in the World but if not using the proper technique you will still get marring.

Yes, Yes, and Yes! Carnauba can be put on top of the sealant for a super reflective shine if desired. The Wolfgang (and others too I assume) Will last from 3-6 months whereas the carnauba is good for 30-45 days. But when they're layered it looks great.

It would make the perfect used car!!

I have a nieghbor who spends at least one day a week during the summer, outside, polishing his wifes 99 EXV6 Sedan once a week..

Whenever/If i have kids, i would love to find a used (no matter the mileage) nice honda, pref. accord for them to drive, that has been as well taken care of as yours..

Your paint is perfect..
I need to wax my car, but its cold!

TypeG,

I hope you don't use that pad in the picture with your PC :dunno:

Thanks for the  JWesG2.. I drove over 350 miles yesterday in some snow up east of Columbus OH and got the sled pretty dirty.
Stopped by the $2 spray wash and finished in the garage with the Spray n Wipe!!
I love that product. Hit it with Poorboys Spray n Gloss and it looks brand new again(total time 45 minutes)

It pays to keep your car clean and a good solid base of maint. done and on going. If its waxed up good... NO matter what you use it helps with the minor fast clean ups. I do like inspector. Blow the cars off at a car wash. and then use a mist and wipe or a booster and alls like almost new in a very short time. Sure there get to be a few swirls here and there and other problems. but most can be cured with a wash, clay, polish and wax when weather and time allow....Same with the inside... work it hard a few times and then follow up cleanings are easy.
