CaptainVideo 03-04-2008, 12:39 PM I woke up this morning and found a Certified Preowned car w/21k miles I had been watching dropped from just over $20k to $17,800. I haggled them down to $17,600 and the car is MINE! What a SWEET ride!!! It was $19,158 OTD with tax, tag, & doc fees.
Does anyone know how the automatic day/night mirror w/ compass works? I can't find any documentation on it and I couldn't force it to go to night-mode when a driver pulled up behind me with high beams on. I didn't even notice it had it until I was driving it home.
I'm going to have to find an excuse to drive somewhere tonight!
ESHBG 03-04-2008, 01:17 PM So you decided to go with a coupe vs. a sedan, eh? Congrats! Can't wait to see the pics! :D

If it is anything like Acura's there is a power switch on the front of the mirror. Press the switch so the green light is on and that indicates the auto day/night function is active.

I'll have to figure out how to post pictures. You need a place to host them, right?
I found something on the mirror. I was hoping for a manual adjustment, but there isn't any. Oh well, I suppose I'll get used to it.
MAN, that engine is quiet!
I just couldn't bring myself to like the looks of the sedan. Sorry! I know it is the better choice, but this coupe was close by, the timing was right and the price was right.
Succinct 03-04-2008, 04:13 PM Congrats on choosing the V6!
You ought to update your sig now...
namegoeshere 03-04-2008, 08:46 PM Congrats.
I've been checking around the past week to see what an '06 or '07 V6 6MT coupe or sedan was going for myself. But nothing in the area.... though there are quite a few new and used V6's with auto.
CaptainVideo 03-05-2008, 09:30 AM Congrats.

Thanks! I'm a 43 year old guy who feels like I'm having the best Christmas ever! I've literally been planning this car for 3 years. In fact, I have an '06 Accord Coupe Brochure from 2006 because I figured I'd probably get one eventually.
I wrote this elsewhere, but this desire goes back to 1982 when I rode in a friend's father's new 1982 Toyota Supra, which was an incredibly hot car. The engine was so quiet, smooth and quick!
I think the Accord Coupe does a good job of capturing much of that. And it has 244Hp vs the Supra's 145 (or something like that). Rear wheel drive would have been nice.
The 6MTs are really hard to find around here, too. But, part of the reason must be disinterest because this dealer wasnt able to get rid of it.
I've been having a lot of fun with it! I've discovered, for me, there's no point going through all 6 gears. I typically shift from 1 to 3 to 5 and then 6 if I'm on the highway. I read once that skipping gears improves gas mileage.
Although, I've only gotten 26MPG on this first 1/2 tank, even though it has been mostly highway driving. But, I've been pushing it pretty hard (it is FUN!) and it sat idling for a good half hour while the salesman tried to figure out how to activate the 3 months of XM. Also, I didn't fill it, so who knows how far it was driven before I picked it up and reset the trip odometer.
lpaudio2 03-05-2008, 12:12 PM Congrats on the purchase! I love the color of the gauges on the coupe!

Congratulations on your new coupe. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. You might want to reconsider the skip shifting (depending on how you do it) to keep your transmission in good shape. Check out this thread.

cnisenbaum 03-05-2008, 01:32 PM Skip shifting is bad for this tranny according to Honda. There is a TSB if you are having any third gear problems: Rough or popping out of gear. They put in new improved fluid. Great ride-I love mine. A $40,000 Acura ride
for $25,000.

You can open a free account at www.cardomain.com. You can do your own basic web pages and upload pictures. From there you can host pics to post on other sites like DA.
Congrats on the car.

Thanks guys. I never would have known. That's too bad. A 5-speed probably would have been more appropriate with an engine this powerful.
I checked my MPG for the first time. It is lower than I would have hoped at 25.1 MPG. It is probably 70% highway, but I haven't been driving it like a 4cyl either. I'm still enjoying accellerating fast simply because I can. But, I'll be hitting the MPG threads now.

......your 6M has the ability to log eye-popping highway fuel efficiency.
During a recent trip to Socal, I made a real effort during the return voyage. Filled up with 87 at Gorman (Chevron/I-5 adjacent). Drove 300 miles north, coasted off I-5, took about 7.7 gallons. Over 38 MPG. No complains at all.
best, ez.....

Dang! That great! I may get a scanguage so I can figure out what the best driving techniques are.
But, even if I don't do better than 25Mpg, it is only 2 -3 less than my '94 4cyl and it is very much worth the extra $170/yr.
My wife reminded me I've been running a few under 2-mile errands in the car. It is hard not to hop in every chance I get!
I'm kind of bummed about not being able to skip-shift :(
lpaudio2 03-06-2008, 02:26 PM in addition to skip shifting being hard on the trans, it also reduces your economy, since you will more likely be operating out side of the power band -> shift from 1 ->3 once your in 3rd you need to give it a fair bit of gas, which hurts your economy, smooth on the gas increases it.

I've stopped doing it. Although, I may try double-clutching. Double-clutching helps this next problem, too:
I've discovered I'm plagued by that well documented (on the web, anyway) 3rd gear issue. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes it doesn't want to enter 3rd gear easily.
The fix is some sort of GM transmission fluid. Honda hasn't officially recognized it as a problem, other than to revise the fluid used in '07+ Models (Acura and Honda). I've read this works for a while, but only the GM fluid gives long-lasting results.
So I need to formulate a plan to get a local dealer to replace the fluid under warranty. AND I need to figure out a way to get them to put in the GM fluid, not the updated Honda one.
I'm not hopeful.
One problem with my driving that certainly affected my MPG was that I was shifting too late. The engine is so quiet! I've used sound more than the tach on every other manual-transmission car I've owned. So now I'm shifting so RPM drops to around 1,500 in the higher gear.
As a side note on transmissions, my first car back around 1982 was a 1971 VW Beetle. I found out, after much gear-grinding (I didn't like the car), I could put it in gear without even using the clutch just by getting the RPMs right. You can have a lot of fun with a car when you don't like it much.

Like I said earlier there is now a TSB on the 3rd gear problem. Honda will change your fluid to the new and improved fluid free under warranty:thmsup:. The new fluid fixed my 3rd gear problem at least for the last 30 days>\.

If the Honda dealer pleads ignorance to the problem (which some have experienced, according to posts here) what do I tell them? Is there a TSB number to reference? (I've searched and all I found was a "Honda News" pdf talking about the new MTF with no reference to a TSB requiring it)
Also, if I buy the GM friction-modified MTF myself, do you think they'll put it in? I've read nothing but rave reviews. At least one person reported the improvement with the new Honda MTF lasted only for a short period of time.
Aviography 03-08-2008, 03:28 PM If you are so hard pressed with getting the GM fluid at your own cost, why not just spend some time yourself, or get some help from a buddy and change the fluid yourself, it's not that difficult.

If it is Honda's problem THEY should be doing the work, not me. I also don't want to risk voiding the warranty.
The problem really isn't that bad. I'm guessing they'll put in the new Honda fluid. If that works, great. If it only works for a time (like others have experienced) I'll probably put the GM fluid in myself if I can satisfy myself that I won't have warranty problems. I typically due simple maintenance myself (oil changes [the V6 oil filter looks like it could be hard to get to], brake pads, etc.).

FYI, about a month ago I told the service manager that the 3rd was grinding and it popped out of gear. She said she was aware of the problem and the fix was to upgrade the fluid. I ASSUMED :dunno: honda had put out a bulletin RECENTLY as she said she knew nothing about a recurrent problem with 3rd gear about 6 months ago.
CaptainVideo 03-10-2008, 06:23 PM I realized I sound like I'm complaining, so let me chime in with some compliments for the car.
I'm amazed how little wind noise there is. It is the kind of thing you only notice when it is there (like on some Maximas I test drove).
The driver's seat is about the most comfortable car seat I've ever sat in. I love the firm padding and high bolsters.
It took me a while to get used to it, and I'm still a bit rough on the 1-2 shift, but driving the car smoothly is easy and the transmission generally drops right in gear with no fuss (3rd gear being a periodic exception)
The car looks great! The stereo is the best stock stereo I've heard (I don't spend much time in luxury cars, though). Buttons and knobs have a quality feel. No rattles. Strong, if a bit twitchy, brakes. Serene and secure highway ride. COOL red button illumination. Decent visibility, considering it is a coupe with a high beltline. Amazingly smooth, quiet and powerful V6.
And I'm having fun with the 6-speed.
