Can anybody help me out with prices brands etc. BenjiBoy650 11-24-2004, 05:09 PM Helps if you include what year/engine. Assuming it's your Accord with an H22 I'd say don't turbo it, the H22 isn't an ideal motor for turbo. The F22/F23 is much better. If you turbo both motors you actually come out with a pretty similar horsepower figure, surprisingly. stevel 11-24-2004, 05:23 PM putting a turbo on an engine that wasn't meant for one is just wrong. :( If you want a faster car, buy a faster car. :( Greg 11-24-2004, 05:52 PM If you have an H22, most say that you shouldn't boost more than 7psi on stock internals. www.hpoa.org would have good info on boosting a H22 even though it is a prelude site. radadogcustom97 11-24-2004, 08:34 PM yeah i have an h-22 so i quess ill scratch the turbo thanx for the info Greg 11-25-2004, 05:18 AM If you still want some good information about turbo/engine buildups, look up keahistight and outlaw on the hpoa board. The board is free, but you have to create an account. I seem to remember that finding an h22 making over 300whp was very rare, and that with a moderate amount of boost, a turboed h22 could put down 250whp and still be reliable. Also, the cost involved was pretty substantial. The h22 has metal composite cylinder walls, and therefore has to be sleaved and have stronger pistons before it can take more than 7psi of boost. I seem to remember that the typical turbo build, including engine work, was $10K-$12K. Although, everyone that had a turboed h22 seemed to really enjoy it. The thing I liked best about the h22 was that it revved through the roof and sounded great. One of the best sounding four cylinders IMO. If you still want to go turbo and not spend all that cash, here is th solution: Sell the accord and get a low-miles 1993-95 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo for $12-$15K BenjiBoy650 11-25-2004, 07:36 AM Or you could just put the F22 back in and turbo that thing if you really wanted to. FMax and several other companies IIRC have a turbo kit already built for that engine, and it's pretty much ideal for boosting. I've seen an F23's boosted put down anywhere between 210 and 280whp. It doesn't sound like a lot but you have to remember the F series engine has a much flatter torque curve and the turbo will increase it more evenly throughout the rev range. |
