Hey, I have a question about my ABS Light. The light stays on everytime I start the car. The pads and rotor have less than 3k on them. What can be a problem? Today, the brakes locked up and the car steered to the right causing me to hit the curb and damage the right rim. When I got back in the car and start up the vehicle the light was off, but when I was leaving work, the light came back on.

Here's the detail:
2004 Honda Accord LX-SULEV
4Door
Front Disc
Rear Drum
33k miles
Pads and rotor less than 3k.
Sometime when the car start without the ABS light coming on, it will come on when i begin to accelerate.

What can be wrong? I asked around, people told me the ABS Light indicates that it's working.... "If it's working, why is the light on only in my accord, and why did my brakes lock causing me to go off the road?:dunno:"

ABS warning light does not come on and STAY on unless something is wrong, the light is a warning light that tells you something in the ABS system is not working, and the ABS is disabled to conventional braking mode where ABS is inoperative.

A number of things can be wrong, the accumulator maybe low in pressure, one of your ABS wheel speed sensor may have been damaged and unable to provide accurate reading, which sounds like your case when the ABS controller sees no fault when you first start the car since the car is not moving, but detects one of the sensor is not providing the correct value when you start to accelerate and promptly shuts the ABS off.

Your Owner's Manual will tell you exactly what the ABS warning light means, but you will have to go to a garage with the right equipment to read the code from the ABS controller.

ck your brake fluid level. if it is too low the ABS light can come on, while the 'Brake' (Red) light will stay off. Had this happen before on an Ford. The 'Brake' light stays off because you still have pressure.

Uh, that wouldn't make sense, the normal brake warning light is based on brake fluid level, not brake line pressure, the ABS utilizes the same brake fluid as the main conventional brake system, some ABS system (such as my old 96' Integra) has an ABS reserver on top of the ABS modulator, but there isn't a separate brake fluid level sensor/switch for it, and the fluid will eventually mix anyway.

The 7th Gen Accord ABS does not even have a separate ABS brake fluid reservoir as far as I can tell, I recommended the ABS fault code to be read by a shop since I do not know exactly what every code the ABS controller puts out, plus the whole point of the fault code is that one can then start looking at the right direction rather then randomly guessing what could be wrong.

I used the Snap-On Modis to find the trouble code. The Code was:
11-1 Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Open or Short.

I had it replaced and the ABS light went out.

How is it done? My Front Right sensor is faulty. I've already removed the 10mm bolt holding the sensor. But it still doesn't budge no matter what direction I wiggle it. Plz Help!
