Takumi 03-13-2008, 12:55 PM Hey guys,
shall I go for 16" or 17" snow wheels(for performance not looks)? and what happens if no TPMS sensors installed on them, will VSA still works? Those sensors are kind of expensive and if there is no need I don't want to add it...
Please give some advise here, thanks in advance.
2008 Accord Coupe EX-L
onewheelup 03-13-2008, 01:01 PM Id just get a good set of winter tires and have them switched out. I do believe that the VSA will not work with the TPMS sensors out.
Fbis1 03-13-2008, 01:12 PM on the same topic, which winter tires would you recommend ? any specific model recommended for the 08 accord coupe in particular ?
Takumi 03-13-2008, 01:30 PM The reason I want another wheels for Winter is because I don't want to pay for the fees to the dealer to replace my tires...so I am better of have separate winter wheels, and I can change them my self or some dealers will change the wheels for you for free if you change oil at their location, they will charge you if it's change tires instead of wheels. simply because it's more work for them....
Takumi 03-13-2008, 01:32 PM other than tirerack.com is there any tire stores you can suggest? I am here at Toronto, Canada
andysinnh 03-13-2008, 01:33 PM First off, not having tpms won't make your vsa or abs or anything not work. All you'll likey get is a light on the dash showing an issue with the tpms (although on some Hondas the light doesnt' bother going on if it gets NO tpms signal - not 100% sure about the Accord).
That being said, I would personally opt for a dedicated set of 16" wheels with snow tires. Swapping tires on wheels over several times increases the likelihood of wheel scratching and also isn't good for the tire beads. You can snag a set of wheels with snows from www.TireRack.com for a pretty decent price, mounted/road-force balanced, shipped to your door. In terms of snow tires, I've run the Blizzak WS-60's on the wife's Freestyle this winter and they're outstanding in the snow, quiet on the dry, and handle very well. Nokians are also a decent tire, but not geographically available everywhere...
One issue you may run into if you're looking to get these now is most places won't have much left in stock, so if you can get through the next month without issue, wait till about Sept or Oct and do the deal then.

There are a lot of folks from Canada on the ford freestyle board, and they talk about getting decent deals from Canadian Tire - so that'd be a place I'd try.
Takumi 03-13-2008, 01:37 PM Thanks man.

I thought I remember reading that the VSA cant be turned of if the TPMS is not registering a signal...
As for winter tires...

The Dunlop's rated well.

Takumi 03-13-2008, 01:50 PM ah...now you telling me VSA won't work as it normally would???

Well, with the Pilot that's definitely not the case - but can't speak for the Accord since I don't have that owners manual to verify. If Honda is now tying tire pressure into the VSA thing, then that's new....
andysinnh 03-13-2008, 01:58 PM Thanks man.
onewheelup referred to 1010tires.com - and that's a canadian outfit that does pretty much what tirerack.com does - but when I was checking, their prices were much higher than most anywhere else, and that was regardless of whether you picked canadian or US prices on their web site - so while I'd give them consideration, definitely compare their prices to other sources...

JamieJam1AIM 03-13-2008, 02:00 PM no... VSA will be on by default the will sense "in theory"t hat you have a flat and will not allow you to turn the vsa Off.. in the cold and snow, im not sure why you'd want to anyway... also.. If you get a new set of sensors the car will need to be calibrated at honda for the change in sensors.... each time is about 75.00 just get sowies and ride... ignoe the tpma cause the vsa will be on....... easy as pie!
Takumi 03-13-2008, 02:45 PM Now, if I have TPMS sensor on the new 16" wheels and programed by Honda, when I change back to my 17" stock wheels with sensors, will I have to reprogram is again?
andysinnh 03-13-2008, 02:56 PM So Honda TPMS sensors aren't location dependent - meaning that if you swap them around on the car it won't get messed up. So, in theory, as long as you have a Honda TPMS you don't need to reprogram. However, if you got aftermarket TPMS I believe that you need to educate the vehicle about those - and what I don't know is whether that means you then have to reprogram the factory ones again..... I say leave the TPMS off on the winter wheels - just my opinion...
