View Full Version : my long list of warranty work, including dealer tint bubbling! :furious:
jang859 03-13-2008, 03:20 PM :furious:
So I have an appointment with the dealer on Tuesday. Here is the list
1. Noisy Hvac blower fan (same noise intensity at any speed as long as it is on)
2. fan speed switch emits a loud plasticky squeak anytime you flip it downward
3. rattle from the passenger side
4. gas cap release tension spring...thing. i have to hit it 10 times to open it
5. dealer installed tint on rear window is BUBBLING. does this mean i use the rear defroster too much??? it happens in perfect rows between the defroster lines.
6. XM antenna is not perfectly sealed to the roof of the car so soapy water gets in it everytime i wash it and then runs down the back for a day or so. getting up there and pressing down on it makes the water spurt out the bottom...:thumbsdow
andysinnh 03-13-2008, 03:32 PM couple of ideas here:
- gas door is likely the cable isn't pulling out far enough to let the door pop open - should be simple adjustment
- Bubbling under the tint is likely residual lubricant along the defroster lines that the tinter didn't squeegie all the way out during install. You're not using the defroster too much - it's just that it's trying to boil the water out and you're getting air bubbles from the reaction...
- the heater fan and switch sound - sit in another Accord and compare the noises - sometimes some cars are just loud in general (I know that the HVAC auto sensor fan in the wife's Pilot was louder than I'd wanted, and they were all that way). If yours is louder than the others, then you have a legit concern
- rattles - ALL accords have rattles. :D Some can be fixed, however....
- XM antenna - sounds like it's not fully seated to the roof - you're getting seepage between the body and gasket. Likely have to drop the headliner to tighten the bolt from underneath...
good luck - andy

that means they did not install it right...mine dose not even have tint on the defroster lines, the tint is cut into allot of strips, and you can't even tell.

Are you sure the tint is cut into a bunch of little lines across the back window??
I'm not sure if thats correct...:dunno:
jang859 03-13-2008, 03:36 PM remove the headliner? should i not even bother with the antennae thing then? i can live with it...
stevencrosbie 03-13-2008, 03:56 PM 1. Andy hit this dead on. Go to the dealer and check another Accord. If they are different...write that up as a repair.
2. It should not squeak. Simple...needs to be replaced or fixed.
3. Rattles are the demise of Honda quality. Get after them for a repair. Keep your paperwork...as you never know when it will become helpful down the road (read lemon law if needed).
4. Gas spring....have them replace or adjust that :) Gas is hard enough to pay for....no need for the extra effort just to add gas to the car.
5. Tint. Should not bubble. How long has it been? Longer than a week? If so...that is a poor installation. Complain about that and have it fixed. You should be able to use the crap out of that rear defroster with no ill-effects.
6. Have them remove and re-seal that XM module. It shouldn't do that either.
Hope this helps. Good luck with the dealer.
jang859 03-14-2008, 05:11 AM is the xm module thing worth it to remove the headliner?
what exactly should I say about the rear tint? i'm a first time new car owner. i'm only 22. i'm really inexperienced!

Kenwood 03-14-2008, 05:28 AM Tint just tell them Bubbling is unacceptable.. Chances are the dealer DID NOT tint it. They usually have places do that for them, but it should not bubble. Also it does NOT need to be installed in multi pieces, GOOD shops pride themselves on doing a bubble free 1 piece rear window. Ive taken tint jobs back and had them redone for 1 small air bubble the size of a pinhead...It never required much of anything in terms of explination. I take it back and say this is WRONG.. Here is my receipt.. they retint it, and PAY more attention so they dont have to do it again. Ive never had a tint shop complain when I go for a retint. But I usually go to the higher end shops..
andysinnh 03-14-2008, 05:31 AM the XM antenna likely has mounting nuts on the underside of the roof that aren't tight - all they need to do is pull down the rear portion of the headliner enough to get a wrench in there and tighten it down - I don't THINK it's stuck on instead - but it is a warranty issue and they should be held accountable to fix it.
In terms of the tint - you paid to have a tint job done and it's defective - you have every right to request they fix the problem. Doing tint on a rear window is tough since the angle and access to the window can take a lot of work - and if you rush the job, you get the results you have. Demand they take action.

jang859 03-14-2008, 06:30 AM its the dealer tint, andy. I didn't get a tint job.
should i request they go a little darker since they have to redo it anyway?

just a heads up, almost all dealers source out their tinting needs/jobs to a local tint shop. Not sure if they'll point you in their direction or handle the complaint for you.

I agree with the previous post - dealers always outsource their tinting to an outside vendor to do the work - and they're the agent representing you to the vendor. If you have a problem, then you tell the dealer and they work on your behalf with the vendor to fix the issue. I've not seen a properly done tint job bubble around the defroster lines, so they have to fix it.
In terms of darker tint - I'm betting that the only way you'll get a free resolution is to replace the rear window tint only with the same percent tint as before. If you want to change the tint on that and the other windows, then you'll have to likely pony up some $$...

steve20 03-14-2008, 11:50 AM how are the tint dudes going to remove the tint without damaging the rear window defroster? I would put that on your list to check its function after the tint is reapplied-if it bubbled, I'm quite certain they are going to F/U the reinstall as well
Kenwood 03-14-2008, 11:57 AM Ive been able to remove tint without killing the defroster... They only kill it if they carelessly use a razor to scrape the old adhesive off... I pulled the tint off.. then carefully bladed the bulk of the glue off..Then used a solvent to remove the rest of the glue... This was the case on my trans am and my corvette...Both still work flawlessly.. However with them botching the original job Id be standing over top of them and watching them do the job.. and definately check the defroster for functionality..
GlennD 03-14-2008, 12:00 PM Before I got my current job I worked for a cellular dealer that also did tinting. The tinter used a window solution with amonia when he had to remove tint. He used a rubber blade to push the glue to the edge and removed it with a towel.

1. They said they checked other Accords and it was the same. I admit I heard it on the first day but I'm not sure if it's louder now or what.
2. They have to replace all the buttons in that row at once and said they will do that.
3. They said they are checking into it but still have not heard anything. I feel like they are not even trying when it comes to this. They should be able to hear it the snapping/ticking plastic sound was very loud on my highway drive on the way their! anyone else have problems getting them to fix sounds?
4. said they oiled some latch attached to a cable through the trunk and now it opens easily.
5. said they can't see the bubbling. I admit its been raining here a few days and u can only see it in the direct sunlight, but in direct sunlight you can see it well. Let me tell you it does not fly with my and I need to get them to fix it!!!
6. they checked other cars and said that is how the antennae is designed. :( anyone else notice soapy water getting kinda stuck in there and u have to keep spraying it to get it out?
dking99 03-19-2008, 09:04 AM My antenna does not leak as you previously mentioned.

+1
I do make a point to clean up around that area with the sprayer, but not to get soap or anything out, just really to be thorough and get all soap off before doing a hand wipe down w/ QD and WP.
jang859 03-19-2008, 12:25 PM what about the bubbling tint? bring it back to the dealer another week when its sunny so they can see it?

Regarding Item 3 - Passenger Rattle
I have the same problem on my 08 EX Accord. I have an appointment next Tuesday to have it checked out.
Did you take someone from your dealership for a ride to demonstrate it ?
(I'm going to take the salesman for a ride so he can hear it for himself.)
That noise really sucks. Makes a nice car seem lile a cheap Hyundai,
I'm hoping it is something in the door which is easily repaired. I'm not sure I want anyone dismantling the dash and making things worse.
My car was OK for the first 3000 miles, then it reared it's ugly head. Not that bad around town, but, on the highway it is downright aggravating as hell.
Also - I'm not so sure the sound is coming from the passenger side anymore. If I lean
over ( while pushing on passenger door with hopes of making it stop ) It sounds like its coming from the driver side !!!
I will let you know how I do.
jang859 03-19-2008, 04:17 PM ok, i picked up the car at the dealership today.
as far as the rattle goes, they had removed papers they found which got jammed in behind the glovebox somehow. they said they didn't hear anything after that. i drove it home and so far haven't heard anything.
the gas cap, well it works everytime now. i kinda just didn't realize, you have to push it hard! you have to push it as far as it will go (and the last bit takes some strength) before it will pop open.
i checked out a couple new cars, the hvac fan was noisy in them as well and the antanae on the roof was not perfectly flush either, going up and down a bit when i pressed it and leaking rain water out (it was raining).
GigaS27 03-19-2008, 04:25 PM It's a Honda .
npolite 03-19-2008, 04:55 PM I'm guessing there is a design flaw in the way the gas release latch is built. I have never had this issue on our gen 6 Accord, every time you pressed on it the latch released. On my sister's 08 I have to do it 3-4 times before it releases. I noticed that they had an excessive amount of grease on the tip of the latch. I removed a bit of it and now its better but not what you would expect.
The other common problem that I have been hearing is the squeaking of the rear brake pads. I'm guessing that either the factory didn't put enough molykote grease on the shims or there is a defect on the design of the pads. When they are due for replacement I'll report back. In the 5 years I have been replacing pads I have never had mine squeak. If it does I know it's a defect.
jang859 03-19-2008, 09:46 PM It's a Honda .
what does that mean?
dennisho18 03-19-2008, 10:03 PM You guys are gonna laugh at this but i had the same exact problem and when i took it to get my oil changed i asked them to take a look and guess where the rattle is coming from? its the door latch to open the door. if u get someone to hold it down while your driving it will go away and then ask them to let go and ull hear it again... but when i take get it fix they say they dont know what im talking about...
honda761 03-19-2008, 10:32 PM Dont diss Honda quality so much. 32k now and not one warranty issue, only rattles once every blue moon when its under 35 degrees in the vent area, and goes away in 5 minutes. So take heart anyone out there reading these boards debating whether the Accord is slipping in quality.
jang859 03-19-2008, 10:39 PM hey i'm not here to deter people from buying the cars at all. i'm just royally made i have these issues and i am presenting them to this board so its members can help me through it a little bit. I think its a good car but the quality issues are terrible.
that hvac motor is LOUD. on all the cars, after i tested them today. my girlfriend commented that it is not so loud in her 1998 accord and so it makes no sense. Honda, you should know better than to make a blower that sounds like a hampster in a wheel.
i i share dennis's pain. tell the dealer you have a rattle and they act like they don't know what you are talking about. I'm SICK of those games! it's like they don't feel it's fair they should have to fix rattles or something.
GigaS27 03-20-2008, 08:08 AM what does that mean?
It means the big world of rattles...
I'm not dissing honda's quality, i mean i'm not saying they suck, but they do have their problems like any other car company....
If it was a VW, i'm sure there might have been a post about maybe a electrical problem...i would say the same, "welcome to VW"....each car has it's title for certain problems....and honda's is the rattles and certain other things...
(I came from a VW, and no i never had electric problems)
