Hello, this is my first post. I have a 2008 coupe, one of the few that were available when I bought it. The dealer called me as it was dropped off.

My only problem is that we have had a problem with one of the rear brakes squeeking. Have taken it back twice to look into the problem. I am told that its due to the different brakes used on the coupe and nothing wrong with it.

Is there anyone having the same issues?

The manager told me that its normal for a 2008 and that I should find a open parking lot and go in reverse for 60ft or so and brake hard to clear out the brakes of "dust" that is causing the problem.

Sounds like a story to me.

Yup, I have my brakes squeeking as well in light braking on my coupe. I've been told to do some hard braking to clear out the brake dust.

the only problem ive had with squeaking is when it is either raining or i just ran over sand. thats a very normal occurance and isnt rly a big deal...anything more than that might be a little off...

I have had this problem on my 7th gen with squeaky factory breaks and of course the tech couldn't "replicate the sound" so I just dealt with it. Finally about to change out the pads.

Some squeaking here but its not consistent. When it does happen I only notice it at low speeds with low to medium pressure on the brake pedal like when pulling into a parking space.

Seems like we are all on the same page. Brakes squeeking in light use. Wonder if its has to do with factory pads? Does anyone know what they are made of?

I was told to back up quickly for 60ft or so then brake hard to clear out the "dust".

Should we have to do that on a brand new car? I dont think so.

its the brake pad material. there really is nothing wrong with them, but they are made of lousy material to save them some money. :thumbsdow
there is actually a spray you can buy to stop the sqealing...:notworthy

The spray is for the back of the pad during installation. I havent had any brake issues in my car yet 3000k on it now since November. As soon as some Crossdrilled slotted rotors and nice ceramic brake pads are availlable I will be upgrading.

I took mine in because the brakes were squeaking in January. I understand some noise but I was pulling up to pick people up and it's the first thing they'd mention getting in. They could hear the brakes from inside a building. The Honda people had difficulty replicating the problem but they did something to it, either cleaned the pads or who knows what. Since then the brakes haven't made the loud squeaking, just normal brake noise.

I ought to look and see what the service department claims to have done. Whatever it was, it fixed the issue. If the squeaking is really loud maybe it's the same thing.

The "spray" I think you are talking about is nicknamed Gorilla Snot. I don't know the actual name, but I remember using it on my CRX. Oh, and no I am not making up that nickname. That is what the guy at Pepboy's called it, and whenever I needed some I just went in to the parts counter and asked if they had Gorilla Snot, and they told me where it was.

Also, I don't have the squeaky brakes thanks to the wonderful drivers here in NJ. I get to check out my ABS atleast once a week thanks to their great driving abilities.

After bringing the car in once a month since i received the car on nov 1st I finally had it.

From day one the brakes were squeaking like a garbage truck. I asked sales rep he told me brake dust will go away with time. NOT NORMAL
The gas latch became a two person job. One to push the lever and one to pull the door. NOT NORMAL

Of course everytime i went they were unable to duplicate the problem.
The very next day same problem.

I finally called honda of america and told them what was going on. They opened up a case number for me and said they have been receiving a high amount of complaints about the gas latch and squeaky brake issue.

I hope this finally gets someones bum into gear over there. I'm sick of going in once a month to get this problem taking care of. I only have 3200 miles on my coupe. I'll keep you guys updated.

Bedding in the brake pads works VERY well for curing noise problems from my experience.

Follow these instructions to the letter and report back:

Well don't accept that it's necessarily "normal". I have 1000 miles on my coupe and have yet to hear a peep out of it. Of course it could start at any time, but I know some of you said it was happening from day 1. I've had cars in the past that were like that, and I hope Honda fixes it for you, not a fun driving experience.

it seems like right after you reach 2k miles it starts happening...hmmm well i'm almost there - see if my brakes squeak

once my brakes were properly bedded, 0 squeaking here since then... stopped after first 250-300 and it was very slight at slow/parking speeds.

Yep the squeak has been happening on my sister's 08 as well. I think the factory is not using enough mylokote grease on the shims which is causing the noise. It could also be the material but if it was you would be hearing it throughout the entire Honda line as they most likely use the same vendor for the material.

She also has the problem with the gas release. I noticed there was a lot of grease on the latch so I removed the excess and it has helped. Still a pain versus the one on our Gen 6.

The dealer also replaced half of her carpet as it formed a hole near the gas pedal after 6 months of use. Granted she wears heels but this never happened in 9 years she owned her Elantra and that material was even cheaper than in the Accord.
