Feds Ask For Recall Of 600,000 Dodge Trucks
POSTED: 6:31 am EST December 10, 2004
WASHINGTON -- Federal regulators have asked DaimlerChrysler to recall 600,000 Dodge Durango and Dakota trucks because their wheels could fall off.
The investigation involves Durango sport utility vehicles and Dakota pickups from the 2000 to 2003 model years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is making the recommendation after investigating reports of upper ball joint separation on dozens of vehicles. When that joint separates, the suspension can collapse and the wheel can fall off.
The government said it has several reports of crashes but no injuries due to the problem.
A Chrysler spokesman said the vehicles haven't yet been recalled. He said it does not think "it rises to the level of a safety defect."
The DaimlerChrysler unit plans to respond to the government's request early next week.
The recall recommendation comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
 notice how the chrysler spokesperson guy seems to think it doesn't rise to the level of a safety defect!!
and we're worried about airbags.......
