Hi,
I am new to this forum and not very knowledgable with cars. So excuse me if this is a stupid question.
I own a 2007 accord coupe ExL with automatic transmission. Whenever I switch my gear into "reverse" and starts to backup, the first instance when I hit the break there will be a slight cracking sound underneath my car. However, any further breaking (while still in Reverse) will not produce any sound. When I switch my gear from "reverse" to "drive" and the first instance when I hit the break the cracking sound also appears. And similarily any further breaking do not produce the sound.
I hope I am stating an obvious fact that I just do not know about. Thank you for responding!!!

how long have you had the car? I owned an 06 accord sedan ex-l...and mine made a nasty crakling sound after the car has been sitting for a while, usually only once in the mornings...when i took it to the dealer and asked them about this, they told me it was the floating break pads reseting...and that it was normal...not sure if this really helps out...

Has it just recently started doing this or has it done it all along?

Before '05 it would be the ABS self check grunt. They did away with the noisy part, so I have no clue what it would be on newer ones. Maybe the new design simply makes a different noise.

actually, i'm not sure when it started making the sound..but I have noticed it for awhile. the cracking sound is not very loud so when the radio is on it's hard to distinguish...but it does happen on a regular basis and I really hope it's a self-check or resetting sound.
ps. I have heard a similar sound on a new toyota Rav 4 but NOT on a camry (I have paid attention these days).

It maybe as simple as the brake pads releasing from the rotors.

It's normal according to my Toyo dealer. My Sienna does it when I first move forward after going in reverse. It's a very subtle sound and it only happens that one time.

The loud click you are hearing when initially applying the brakes after changing between reverse and drive is likely the result of the floating calipers as they move/flex ever so slightly with the rotation of the wheel. Apparently normal for these cars. Both my 06 and now the 07 do this.

What does that have to do with a Honda? :dunno:

Correct this is normal and part of the braking system.
