Can someone please post a close up pic of the position of the decklid spoiler on the coupe. I picked one up for my I-4 and am wondering the exact placement for a stock look. Thanks in advance. P.S. I have already searched the web and this forum for pics and didnt find anything up close.

It's annoying but at least it's mostly harmless.

Here's a pre-wash picture which is also mildly relevant since you can see the spoiler placement.

Planning to buy a V6 decklid spoiler part.

Anyone have pics of the lip spoiler who bought it as a part (you 4 cyl coupe owners)?

I don't plan to drill for it once I get it. Plan to attach it with 3M VHB tape.

If there are bolts sticking out of it, I will most likely Dremel them off. Probably won't be doing this install soon due to the cold weather in Boston (STILL). Apparently VHB tape needs at least 60 degrees F weather to cure correctly.

Any pics would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Doesn't help that the V6 decklid spoiler is a part for the coupe, not an accessory which means no templates nor instructions.

I don't see where u can stick the tape as the spoiler is hollow. It has a thin spongie strip around the edge to prevent leakage into the spoiler but thats it.

This forum is great. I've read through a couple of threads to piece together how to 3m mount the deck lid spoiler on my coupe. It's payback time, so I will write down exactly what I did. You don't have to follow exactly what I did, just use what parts you need. You should not have any questions after reading this thread.

- Don't even bother contacting the dealer for the part. They have no clue. Order the deck lid spoiler online from any store. I order mine from www.hondapartsdeals.com . On the left side of the screen you will see "Honda Parts Search", just enter the part number with the right color of your car from this list:

71700-TE0-A01ZA 004 SPOILER ASSY., TRUNK Belize blue pearl
71700-TE0-A01ZB 004 SPOILER ASSY., TRUNK Nighthawk black pearl
71700-TE0-A01ZC 004 SPOILER ASSY., TRUNK Taffeta white
71700-TE0-A01ZD 004 SPOILER ASSY., TRUNK Alabaster silver metallic
71700-TE0-A01ZE 004 SPOILER ASSY., TRUNK Polished metal metallic
71700-TE0-A01ZF 004 SPOILER ASSY., TRUNK San marino red

It cost $94.40 before shipping. Shipping and handling for me was around $18 to Cali.
You don't need any other parts if you are going to 3M mount and not bolt.

- Go to ebay and order the 3M Automotive Acrylic Plus Double Sided Attachment Tape. It will cost less than $20. Also, purchase the 3M Adhesion Promoter

- Wait for the three items to arrive

- On the deck lid spoiler, remove all the plastic tabs that are suppose to penetrate the trunk. They snap off and can be put back if you change your mind

- Remove the thin sponge strip around the edge of the lid spoiler. This will probably be hard to put back if you change your mind.

- Apply the 3M Adhension promoter to the edge of the lid spoiler where the thin sponge strip use to be. The promoter helps the 3M tape to create a stronger bond with plastic.

- Let dry for awhile

- Apply the 3M tape to the edge of the spoiler. I followed how the thin sponge strip was tape on in so far as where to cut the pieces of tape. The tape is wider than the edge, but don't worry about it. Just let the extra tape hang on the inside of the edge. Also, make sure no tape is showing beyond the outer edge of the spoiler. The tape will show when you mount the lid. So, you don't want to place the tape too close to the outer edge.

- Learn the spot where the spoiler mounts on the trunk. Don't be lazy, get off your butt. Pictures are not good enough. Go to the dealership and look for a V6 coupe. Study where the lid spoiler sit on the trunk. Note, the lid spoiler is flush with the top of the trunk. Again, don't be lazy. Go and see for yourself.

- Find someone to help you position the spoiler. It is impossible to do this yourself. It takes awhile to find the right position, but take your time. Once you have it right, get some painters tape. With the tape mark the right and left side position of the spoiler. Also, mark the middle top position of the spoiler. Finally, and this really helped, mark the bottom position of the spoiler with the tape. The bottom position helped the most, because you will just put the spoiler right on top of it.

- Get some alcohol and clean the area of the trunk where the spoiler goes.

- Pull about an inch or two of the 3M tape backing to expose the sticky part of the tape on each piece of tape. Do not remove all of the backing. Make sure the backing is visible after you mount the spoiler so that you can remove the entire backing once the spoiler is in place. What this does is limit the amount of tape exposed so that you have a chance to move the spoiler if you don't mount it to the right spot on the trunk.

- Once you are satisfied with the placement of the spoiler, pull the remainder of the tape backing to expose all of the tape

- Press hard on the spoiler

- Leave car in the sun. Do not drive the car for 12 hours.

That's it!!!! The spoiler is stuck on solid. I don't believe it will be going anywhere.

I don't quite follow you on that, man!

Going to www.hondapartsdeals.com, the "Deck Lid Spoiler: 2008 Accord sedan" is MSRP: $356.00 & discounted @ $260.61... not "$94.40" as you stated!

Check here: Honda Parts Deals... Deck Lid Spoiler: 2008 Accord sedan (http://www.hondapartsdeals.com/product_info.php?pName=deck-lid-spoiler-2008-accord-sedan)

However, your DIY instructions seem to be quite helpful.

For those who want a color-matched "Deck Lid Spoiler" for their 2008 Accord sedans...

I recommend: http://www.wtspoilers.com, their eBay ad': "PAINTED HONDA ACCORD 4DR 08 FACTORYSTYLE LIP SPOILER" (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PAINTED-HONDA-ACCORD-4DR-08-FACTORYSTYLE-LIP-SPOILER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2el 1262QQcategoryZ33638QQihZ004QQitemZ140234995013).

I got one for $110/shipped (+tax, as I reside in Texas & so does the seller). It's a virtual replica of the OEM part, color-matched, and includes 3M tape already on the part as well as additional/'optional' hardware.

I quoted the text from poppy123's thread above stating his acquisition of the 2008 Accord sedan rear decklid-spoiler lip from www.hondapartsdeals.com; the price on the web-site doesn't come close to the price he stated. That's all!

You feel like it's stuck but the tape you used isn't strong enough. I used to work for 3M and most reliable and durable one is VHB tape. Yes, it costs 2X more than the cheap tape you mentioned but it's 5X more secure especially if you are not drilling.

The part came already painted and has some 3M tape lining the underside. I wish to avoid using the screw/bracket hardware that it came w/. Instead, I'll just acquire some "3M VHB" tape and reinforce the existing 3M tape.

On a tangent...

Do you have any recommendation for any other kind of 3M tape to use for affixing an after-market front-skirt lip to a lower-bumper (for another car, not the Accord); both surfaces would be typical urethane-material found on Honda/Acura cars... :dunno:

If you purchase the oem deck lid spoiler for the sedan, it comes with a template. Installing the deck lid spoiler for the sedan is a non issue.

Here is what I would do:

- Tape the area of the trunk where the spoiler will go with painters tape

- Remove the clips from the spoiler

- Without the clips, the spoiler can now be pushed against the trunk.

- Figure out the where the spoiler will sit on the trunk

- When you have it just right, use more painters tape and a pen to mark where the spoiler will sit

- Color or place some type of sticker where the clips go on the spoiler and where the bolts threads are.

- Place the spoiler against the trunk as if you are going to mount it.

- The ink or sticker where you marked on the spoiler will now be transfered to the painters tape on the trunk.

- Now you have marks where to drill

I do not guarantee that above will work. It's just what I would do if I was planning to drill.

I just put mine on this weekend. Unlike other the lip spoilers, the spoiler is placed below the turn of the trunk...about 1/4 inch...now all you have to do is position each end (right & left ends) an equal distance from the trunks edges. I used the 3m body cladding/molding tape. I removed all the plastic parts & built up the distance between the trunk & those areas with the tape so they were flush with the edges of the spoiler that contact the trunk. I cut strips and lined the entire spoilers eges with the tape & stuck it on there. So far no problems

I had the lip spoiler mounted this past Saturday, and that's exactly the way the body guy did mine. Everything went well, until it came time to screw in the screws that came with the spoiler. Instead of him using the screws that come with the package, he used his own! So facing the rear of the car, on the right side where the screw goes into the lip spoiler, the screw went in too much, and now I have a small but noticeable bump from the screw showing outside of the spoiler. To top it all off, the spoiler is uneven about a .25 of an inch! They charged me $50.00 bucks, which they gave back due to ignorance. I say ignorant, because I had to practically beg him to use the instructions that came with the spoiler. He insisted that he didn't need it. Then at one point, laid the f%#*%n spoiler on the roof of my brand new accord!!!!!! I breathed deep, gently took it off the roof, and laid it down on the foam padding it came wrapped in. Even with just the 3M tape, once you put it on, you cannot take it off, or you will f%# up the trunk lid. So I may end up ordering a new trunk lid, and having everything fixed by the dealer.

Will post pics this weekend!

yeah, the seller does a special order directly from 3M and said it's not for retail stores but only for dealers and bodyshops. Call your local shops and ask for em??.
Few of my friends got theirs from him and it was high quality tape for shure. I was afraid it'd fall off:lmao: but it's still holding it tight (2 months for one, 3 weeks for another one)

I contacted the eBay seller, thanks for the link!

I am curious what particular 3M VHB tape is used as 3M actually offers over half a dozen types for various applications; and yes- there are a few different ones for automotive use!

I got an eBay replica deck-lid spoiler that also came w/ 3M VHB tape already affixed to the spoiler. It was black/dark-gray and rather good, I must say. I am trying to get an after-market front-lip adhered to my bumper-cover's valance for another car of mine; hence my curiosity of what tape is simply zee' besttt! :D
