Since new the Nav LCD screen has not come on right after starting the car, for the first few months it happened about once a month, I could usually get the screen to display by pressing the Enter Button, the Audio Button and or the Brightness Button, but lately none of those procedures have worked. The screen remains dark.

I'm forced to actually shut the car off and restart it. I've had to shut off the car 3 times in the last week to get the screen to come on.

Comments or suggestions?

Sounds like a defect. I'd take it back to the dealer to have them fix it.

Time to see the dealer

Yup. It's happened a few more times since I created this thread. I'll add this to my growing list of things I'll have the dealer look at.

the self diagnosis may be in the owners manual for the NAV, but here it is for you:

WOW - great resource, but unfortunately it's a little out of my league. This looks more like a step by step procedure for a Honda Service Tech. Since my problem is intermittent, it's more of an annoyance.

It happened to my wife and she got flustered and called me at work while she was enroute to a doctor’s appointment over in St Louis.

The next time she shut off the car and restated it the safety message appeared and after pressing the obligatory OK button all was fine.

I'll have my dealer investigate, maybe they have been other complaints and they are aware of it and have a fix.

Again thanks for the highly in-depth trouble shooting guide, other more technically capable owners my find this useful.

Cheers

I got in mine yesterday i was doing some things and noticed the screen was blk. i had no pushed OK! after startup. once u click OK!, it stays on. It's the OK! to thewarning about the navigation function at start-up. Try that and see.

I've tried pushing the ENTER button with the dark screen and NOTHING short of shuting off the car will cause the screen to display.

Thanks anyway. Dealer will have to fix.

For the helluvit, have you tried to eject the DVD and reload? While you have the DVD out, inspect it for scratches. How about disconnecting the battery so that you have to re-enter the security codes? Maybe that would make a difference.

My laptop gets jammed up occasionally and rebooting doesn't always do it. Occasionally I have to take out the battery and all is well again.

Just a thought . . .
