I saw two packages for an extended warranty

Does anyone know the differences between the two?

one was

1 - Honda Care

2 - Easy Care?

HondaCare I know is backed by American Honda. EasyCare is probably some aftermarket warranty - maybe has a deductible, probably not as long in length, different price, maybe not as willing to replace parts?

the easy care was the first one attempted to be sold by the dealer...

asked if backed by HONDA... grabbed another one (the Honda care) and bought that one... because it had a Honda logo on it

intereswtingly enough... they are both administered by the SAME company (the re-insurance of the insurance corp)

I think that the 7/1000 for the Honda cars was ... 1000.00 or so

I fell into that trap---actually I felt I was tricked. I bought the extended contract and later read the FINE print to see that it applied at my dealer. If I went to another dealer, I had a $100 deductible and had to have approval from my dealer before the repairs could be made. Not acceptable to me. What irritated me was that I asked if there was a deductible and they told me "no." In fact the sales rep even signed by the deductible and said it was $0 in writing.

I called the dealer and asked if it was a National plan. Obviously the answer was "no." They said they could sell me the national plan, but would have to pro rate mine. I raised cane about being lied to. They ended up cancelling mine and selling me the National plan for half the difference between the two plans.

Make sure you read it carefully.

1. You do not have to buy the plan now, either...you have until 24 months or 24k miles, I believe. Just in case you might sell the car or change your mind before then.

2. You will find one of the best prices at Dick Brooks Honda 800-936-9090; apparently they are selling HondaCare nationwide via the internet, and are as much as $500 less than local dealers. Greg Hunt is the internet contact as of September 2004.(ghunt@dickbrookshonda.com)

If you have already overpaid, the contract is completely refundable, if unused, and you can re-purchase it at Dick Brooks. Or...you can threaten your dealer that you will do this, and see if he wants to make up the difference.

turns out it is 300.00 cheaper than my dealer.

I have made the call, and will stop by tomorrow to discuss options with the finance guy

We didn't buy any.... Honda covers their cars for 36K/36 months... we figured by then all the "bugs" would be worked out.

When buying used Honda Certified the drivetrain is covered for 100K.

For us, not paying labor, the deductible would pay for most parts. So for us, there's no point to additional warranty on them.

I do agree, you really need to read the fine print.... we've seen some that would (for example) cover the water pump, but not the engine that was melted down from it going bad! So they'll pay for the couple hundred then the owner is stuck with the couple grand!

Honda will take care of you if you have auto tranny issues. They've extended it to 7/100 before for free, I betcha anything that they'll do it again if they see a problem. Plus, they will even cover part of the cost if you're out of warranty, just from good will.

Maybe it's my lack of faith in auto manufactures in general; however, I didn't want to chance it.

Trust me, I do hope that you are right about their willingness to help...

We put the Honda extended warranty on the 99 Accord at about 35,8xx miles. As long as we were purchased it before 3years/36,000mi we were all set.
