View Full Version : Black Leather Seats
Hey guys,
I recently purchased my first car with BLACK leather seats and have a few question for you guys.
I've been reading a few posts around the web where people had their black leather seats discolored when using cleaning products such as Lexol.
I purchased a bottle of the Lexol cleaner and conditioner but now I'm very nervous about using it on my Accord. Have any of you used Lexol on your black leather seats? Did it discolor your seats in any way? Did you use a nylon scrub to agitate the seats when cleaning the seats?
Thanks

I have black leather and use Lexol.. Haven't had an issue.
How long were people using the product when they noticed the discoloration?

no problems with lexol + black leather here either
One of the guys said that his seat got discolored a day after using Lexol cleaner/conditioner. Then there were a couple of other guys who used a different product (forgot name of product) and noticed the color starting to fade after about 6+ cleaning sessions in a year.
I didn't see what car they had but hopefully it wasn't a Accord. I've heard a lot of good things about Lexol leather cleaners and will probably do my first cleaning in a month. I guess I should have listened to my cousin and picked a gray interior for less maintenance and less things to worry about -.- oh well.

actually i'd say black leather would be the least maintenance intensive. because dirt doesnt show. :D

Zaino... 'leather in a bottle' - Z10
wonderful stuff and does just as well , if not better than lexol ... imho
some1, prob MCH or RFTexas told me about the stuff and I then asked my Corvette collector buddy about the stuff & his eyes opened up . He wondered how I knew what he was using/liked so I explained myself, he's been using it for a few yrs now on his show cars and also on his golf club bag.
works great on my black leather in the coupe thus far.
I've used Lexol for years with excellent results. I've tried others over the years, but IMO Lexol works the best. The leather feels softer, the cleaner works very well without being abrasive, a nice glow is left behind, and it makes the interior smell like new car. I also use it on the dashboard vinyl where it leaves a nice grease free luster without looking wet and shiny.
Another thing is that its fairly accessible. Its not at every Walmart but Pep Boys and Advance auto usually carry it.
I will say that you do have to use it properly. Both the cleaner and conditioner should not be left to sit on the leather right out of the bottle. When applied it should be rubbed in as directed other wise it can cause spotting that will take a few applications to remove. That's why its a good idea to only do a section of a seat at a time. However, after the conditioner is rubbed in, it can sit - per the directions - and then buffed off. Just don't squirt it out and leave droplets. Also, the cleaner goes a long way. I'm using the same bottle of cleaner that I've had for a few years even tho I've gone thru a few bottles of the conditioner.
