I need some help from those of you who use it, linked to a credit card. I just recently sold some stuff on Ebay, and the sellers paid via Paypal, will that money automatically go to the balance of the card, or do I need to request it to go there??

The credit card has a zero balance, and would just like the cash to go on the card so I can use it, but since this is my first time being paid through Paypal, I’m at a loss.:dunno:

Thanks for the help guys..

depends how you set it up...most of the time you have to tell it where you want the amount to go...its kinda like paypal is the middle man and you tell it where to go...you should see a balance on your account and then tell it to move to you bank/credit card....

which takes 3-5 business days to move, depending on your bank

having a checking acct dedicated to/for paypal selling/credit/transactions helps things move pretty quickly ... i've had good look with a dedicated Chase Business Checking Acct sync'd up with ebay. I was hesitant at first, but there our protections on the business accounts that address paypal usage/fraud/etc.

I have the same setup as you do. When someone pays you, the money will simply sit in your PayPal account... it will not get put onto your credit card. The credit card is only used for making payments, not collecting them. I don't even think it is an option to do that. If you want the money, I think your only option is to have the amount credited to your bank account or sent to you via check.

Yes, once you've accepted the payment, they cannot take it back. In fact, I think once they send you the payment, they can't take it back... they just have to convince you to reject it.

I think the only way they can get their money back is to open a dispute with PayPal.

OK, so when I but something on e-bay, they charge my CC, but when someone pays me, it doesn't go toward my CC???

That seems really stupid...

So I just need to request a check, or have it deposited into a bank acct.???

That is correct - PayPal would like you leave the balance in your account so that when you make another purchase on eBay or from another party that accepts PP, you will have funds available - and PP can earn interest on the float. With the volume they are running - that's a lot of daily balance interest $$.

I've done the vast majority of my income through PayPal for the last few years, so here's what I've found.

First, with regards to someone "taking back" the money they send you it depends a lot on what they bought. If it was electronic or "services" then PayPal just won't really even consider a charge-back (they can dispute the exchange but it's a giant PITA for them). However, if it's something that has a physical presence it's pretty easy to dispute the charge.

If you're selling stuff on eBay, always make sure you retain some proof of shipping - ideally proof of delivery (ie. make them sign for it.) If you're selling virtual goods and want extra protection, consider sending a registered letter as part of the transaction, so that when it's delivered you get a piece of paper saying so. This can be used to prove to PayPal that whatever you sold the person was delivered to the person (and always, always ship to their PayPal address, nowhere else.)

As far as handling your money from PayPal, I don't actually own credit cards so I don't know how PayPal works with them. Instead, I have a PayPal-issued debit card that I use to spend my PayPal money. I can also transfer it to my checking account if I want to, but generally I don't bother with it. Whether it's my PayPal card or my bank card makes no real difference.

It also makes it easy to keep track of "which money" you're spending. In my case, my wife's paycheck is direct deposited in our checking, and mine goes into PayPal.

Over the years, I've found Paypal to be a descent (overall) service to work with. I've had a "stash" bank account for ebay transactions, that has only had several hundred $$$ at a time. There's times when I've purchased something on ebay, and had insufficient funds in my bank account. But, I've set up a back-up funding source. The one thing I don't like is my (former) bank charged a fee for overdraw (sucks), but have overdraw protection with the new bank. That's my only gripe (not necessarily Paypal's fault).

Paypal is convenient. You'd be surprised at how much you'd end up using that service for a more "secure" transaction amongst 3rd party sellers. It's a means of doing business, and having a paper trail to prove/disprove a dispute. BTW, there's a $500 /mo limit on Paypal to bank account withdrawls.
