Hi,

Does anyone know what the stereo is that comes with the 7th Gen--deck, speakers (and size)?

I would like to upgrade my front speakers.

Thank you.

I can't tell you much about the stereo, but the front door speakers are a Honda custom 6" molded in a snap-in bracket. There are also tweeters in the dash. The rear speakers are 6x9 full range. Those are easy to see if you look in the trunk.

I just upgraded my fronts to Infinity 5000CS and left the dash tweeters. The rear speakers will soon be Infinity 693.5.

No reason to change the head unit, just make sure any replacement speakers are very efficient.

Your welcome!

I am hoping to post some pictures if I can borrow a digital camera.

I have always been into the car stereo thing, but not to any extreme. In other words, no rolling boom box, just well balanced and dynamic sound.

The stock system is suprisingly good, just not good enough for my taste.

Based on what I have read there are a few suppliers for the head/speakers. Most seem to be Alpine head units & pioneer speakers.
This comes from some folks that have yanked everything out and gone for a custom setup on 7th gen.

Accordian keep us posted on what you have found that works, I have interest in this also. I will likely start with the rears due to the easy access.

Hello RTexasF,

If I upgrade anything it will be the front speakers first. The rears are easier to change, but the front speakers is where I hear most of the sound. Unfortunately the speakers I want are a bit pricey and would require an amp to drive them (if I'm going to do it...what the heck).

Good luck!

I have had no luck in the stock unit of getting the sound moved slightly to the rear. When I attempt it, I lose the tweeters in the front. I assume they are just split off the front pair. Any attempt to move the sound stage slightly back results in muddy sounding audio. Anyone have any luck moving the sound around eiether by the adjustments or replaceing some or all of the speakers??

When I replaced my rear speakers with Infinity 3-way the sound stage moves to the back without adjusting the fader (set to center.) See my post above for the model numbers of the front and rear speakers. I believe this is due their efficiency in the mid and high frequencies.

If anything, there is probably too much high end now, The bass from the rear seems to get lost so a sub is now needed and the tweeters could use a bit of attenuation. I read on another thread that someone put a 6-ohm resistor in series with each of the rear tweeters. This sounds like something I will try.

One thing I have learned about the whole upgrade attempt is that the stock speakers are tuned for the car. Replacing speakers alters the car acoustics in a big way. I am really having trouble getting the sound I am looking for. A digital EQ is the answer, but I have no hope with the stock head unit.

The stock sound, while it lacks guts, was very smooth sounding compared to what I hear now. My new speakers sound great when played loud, but not quite as good at low levels. Where is the loudless control when you need one?

The experiment continues...

Next up, an Infinity Basslink powerered sub.

Thanks for the answer. Keep us posted on your results as you continue. I'll probably wait until someone has arrived at a configuration that they find satisfying. I like my music fairly loud and slightly to the rear, but spend most of my road time with a wife that uses music as background only. She likes the front stage effect. Says that is where the sound stage should be. I guess the stock rear speakers must be treble defecient. When I bias towards the rear, all the highs go away and mids are murky.

The rear stock speakers are strictly a full range with no sort of tweeter. I believe they are also intentionally less efficient as to automatically create a front sound stage.

I highly recommend component speakers in the front with tweeters mounted up on the door panel. This is huge.

Having a lot of high frequencies coming from the rear is unnatural in my opinion. I need to fix this. I have to admit though, acoustic guitar sounds so sweet now.

What I really need is a digital time delay for the rear instead of attenuation. This would help to create a more natural sound field.
