Six Steelers named to 2005 Pro Bowl

Six Steelers have been named to the 2005 Pro Bowl team, the National Football League announced today.
Named to the AFC squad for the Feb. 13 game at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu were: offensive guard Alan Faneca, inside linebacker James Farrior, center Jeff Hartings, safety Troy Polamalu, outside linebacker Joey Porter and wide receiver Hines Ward.
Faneca and Ward have earned their fourth consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl and Porter earned his second bid in three years. Farrior, Hartings and Polamalu are first-time selections.
The six are the most Steelers selected to the Pro Bowl since the 2002 game. ABC Sports will announce the starting lineups at halftime of the nationally televised Wild Card games on Jan. 8.
In addition, six Steelers were selected as alternates to the squad: rookie quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, defensive end Aaron Smith, wide receiver Antwaan Randle El as kick return specialist, offensive tackle Marvel Smith, punter Chris Gardocki and fullback Dan Kreider.
The Pro Bowl squads were selected by a combined voting of fans, players and coaches.
