So during the winter, some fine person sideswiped the Accord while at one of the Univ of NH parking lots. Given it was the middle of winter, we filed the claim but wanted to wait until spring to get it fixed. Had the estimate done on it Friday - $1300 to fix, but if the shop can't fix the door panel the insurance will pay for a replacement - the shop will make the call. So it goes in to get back to normal next month after he's back from college. Fun, fun, fun.....

Just make sure they don't replace the door skin.....
I made that mistake many years ago, I insisted the body shop replace the door skin, they couldn't talk me out of it so they said OK, they had to drill out the spot welds to pry the door skin off to put on a new one, they even applied rust proofing (so they say anyway).
Well the entire door surrounding started to show signs of rust in about 1.5 years........
It looks like your door is repairable, perhaps suggest the shop use PDR folks to get out as much of the dent as possible before applying body fillers to minimize the build-up?

that's exactly what the woman who did the appraisal/estimate said about trying to repair vs the skin - and the shop I go to is a small shop but they really take pride in their work, so we'll see how it goes - I'm not gonna lose sleep over this - I'm gettin' too old to start and worry about the scenarios about the repair - trust the shop and just move on.

That is a pisser but at least it's minor and relatively inexpensive to fix. Andy how many cars have you had in the past that you bought for less than this repair estimate? I can think of at least a dozen on my end.
