i need something to protect the paint on my car but that will still allow the paint job fromt he repairs to "breath" so it can cure for the next few months.

(got bird crap on my car yesterday and it left a nice mark on the hood even though i wiped it off as soon as i saw it. i would like to avoid any other mishaps like that if possible!)

anyone know of any products that fit the bill?

hmm, looks like my menzerna may also be safe for it. (just checking up on some of the products i already have to see if any of them would work too.)

but i can't find anything on the safety of the final polish step of the menzerna saying whether or not it's safe for fresh paint.

Some more products to use on fresh uncured paint..............
Mothers Glaze, Meguiar's #80
I am not sure what Menzerna products you have, but the compounds have no protective qualities!!

I believe from all the info I have read that you do not want a wax(carnuba)on a fresh paint finish due to out gassing from the paint during cure..

I will have to respectfully disagree, sorta. You sure don't want a polymer sealant (like Meguiar's #20) on the fresh paint. You don't want really anything on the paint for maybe up to 90 days after painting. However, I believe the carnuba is less evil than leaving a car out in the sun (or clouds whatever the case may be) all day exposed to the elements.

I have been told that by many people as well, but I am not totally convinced yet. I had been using the P21S Drying Towel. I bought the S100 drying towel after being told they were the same except for the price. Well, the S100 towel will not hold 1/4 the water that the P21S towel will hold. Maybe it's just the towel that is different & the rest of the products are the same? Maybe if I bought another P21S towel it would be the same as the S100 now. I don't know. It would make sense for the S100 towel to be different since it's not "supposed" to be drying near as much surface area as the P21S towel. The jury is still out on this issue for me.

Sorry to hijack your thread anysia!

The best thing for you to do is ask your body shop what products to use...
Megs #80 is a glaze also and is specifically touted as a polymer that will breathe and has been used by numerous detailer's..
3M IHG I can give you personal testimony that it will not hurt fresh paint because I have used it on fresh paint..
Another friend of mine switched over to 3M finesse it glaze for his custom paint jobs as a protectant for the 1st 90 days.

I must say, when it comes to paint car, you guys don't mess around. :)

the body shop didn't have any rec's. they said don't put anything on it at all for the first 120 days..... that is the only thing they recommend at all.

so not much help there! (i asked when i picked up the car and again when i went back for the indentation on the roof).

but, to be expected, me a girl, in a body shop full of guys. they obviously know what's best and i obviously know aboslutely nothing!

--don't get me started on the argument about swirl marks! i didn't have one single swirl mark on my car prior to the accident, now, thanks to their buffing, it's swarming with them! and their claim is, well, you had to have had them already-after all it's a black car. nope, sorry guys, no swirls marks on the car prior to the accident!!!

....and what exactly happens if i go thru the entire process, glaze, wax, and all on the fresh paint? curious.....

Just single step(glaze) freshly painted surfaces and treat factory area's the way you normally do.
IHG will hide the swirls on the fresh paint..
I have been using IHG for about 20 years, it used to be the only thing I would use.. back in my single days when I could wash and glaze weekly.
Don't compound the fresh paint..
After the 120 days they recommended then you can work the swirls out with the compound.

Napa, Carquest type stores. I don't believe you can get at AZ or Advance, at least I have not seen on the shelves here.
Call your local NAPA or Carquest they may not have but can get..
You should be able to purchase a 16oz bottle...
Here's pics from their site(3M)

O'Reilly's has the 3M glaze in my area as well.

I1, I wasn't meaning to know your recommendation of the 3M glaze. I use it myself & like it very well. One thing I didn't realize (and correct me if I'm wrong), is that the hand glaze doesn't have any protection properties does it?

It is not like a wax or sealant if compairing it to longevity.
It will apply minimal layer of protection.
It will greatly aide in "hiding swirls" and with enough heat(pressure) it will clean up scuff's and micro marring..

I know anysia has Klasse SG but I am not familiar with it's application on fresh paint, nor have I read of anyone recommending for fresh paint......
I would think an Acrylic would not be a good thing in this situation.

i've decided to perform a little experiment....

i aio'd the car this weekend. i will put another coat of aio on this week and top it with a coat of sg sometime this week or next weekend.

i figure, hey, might as well try. atleast for now my car is shiny and not so hazy looking!

For what its worth a trusted friend that owns a body shop said to only wash the new paint for 90 days or so. I don't doubt anyone's knowledge here, which is waaay more than mine, just stating what he said.

anysia

no problem, rtexasf! :)

my body shop actually said 120 days  .

but i'm starting to sustain way too much paint damage (chips, bird crap, water spots) from having nothing on there, so i decided to give it a go... i figure it can't get any worse, but atleast it will look shiny! ;)
