Hi Guys/Gals, I need some help here!

My temperature gauge stop working after I replaced the ignition switch myself.
My guess is I mistakenly disturbed/pulled some of the wiring in the process of unplugging/installing the new ignition switch and created an open circuit somewhere???

Any help and direction is greatly appreciated!!

Best idea would be to go back and look at everything.

Is the car driving the same? Are the fans kicking on and off when they're supposed to etc? - If not, might be the thermostat.

Thanks for you input!
The car drives the same as far as I can feel...
I'll see if the fans kick on-off as they should and also plan to check everything tonight to make sure all the wiring connections are tight...

REVISED

Best idea would be to go back and look at everything.

Do that 1st.

If you still can't get it to work here's a quick test of the temp gauge as I remember:
-find the thermo unit (#14 here, single wire)
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=ACCORD&catcgry2=1998&catcgry3=4DR+LX&catcgry4=KA4AT&catcgry5=WATER+PUMP-SENSOR
-(with ignition off) pull the wire from the sending unit and ground it
-turn ignition to II and see if gauge moves toward H, shut off before it pegs!!!

If you don't see any movement, there is a problem with the gauge or the wiring. I understand the gauges are fragile. If the needle moves, possible problem with the thermo unit.

The cooling fans cycling should be Engine Coolant Temp related from sensor (#17) and not the thermo unit (#14) for the gauge.

It's a 4-cylinder LX...

Do the fans come on when you turn the a/c on?

Make sure you didn't bump the wire out of the connector.... it's the green 16 pin, the temp gauge wire is the yellow with green.

These may be helpful:

Thanks! Princess!
Now I know which wire to look at...
I'll try it tonight.

After unplugging all the wire/connectors (in the driver's side fuse/relay box) and visually inspected all the connectors to make sure everything look fine,
there is still no movement for my temperature gauge...

The fans do kick on and off as I turned on the AC...
I think the two dashboard wire harnesses are next to the ignition switch connector and it's very likely I bump the wire out of the connector as Princess suggested...

I didn't try what Donutlimo suggested ...kind of out of my skill/knowledge...

Should I turn to the my mechanic or the dealership? My experience with them on this type of problems is they can put a lot of hours on it and still can't get it right...feel hopeless

Youl'll probably have better luck with a dealer than a mechanic. As they've more than likely seen the issue before, and thus will take less time trying to diagnose it.

If it worked before you messed with connectors, then like mentioned. Take a look at everything near that area you worked with like already mentioned. I don't see how it can just stop working.

My car is trying to talk to me.

I was out for dinner with my wife and all of the sudden the gauge went back to normal!! After I stopped for gas and drove for 2-minutes or so...it suddenly dropped and never went back.

I think we can rule out the sensor and the gauge?? any thought?
thanks again for all the input!

My guess now is a loose wire.

sorry about my lack of knowledge.
how should I better pin point the loose wire??
I did try to find the yel/grn wire on the 16-pin green connector as Princess mentioned...I guess I need some more visual help.

Does Princess possibly have a wiring diagram with where the wire goes to and which connector?

Is it possible to have "photo 91, view52" for the 16-pin connector and ""photo 34, view 29" for the 2-pin??
thank you, thank you, thank you! Princess.

This says it's 22 connector.....:dunno:

Which number of connectors are you looking for???

sorry about the confusion...
the wiring diagram (80-2) indicates that the wire goes from:
1. "sending unit" to
2. "connector C101" (photo 34, view 29) to
3. "connector C204" (the 16th pin in the 22-pin connector. actually on the passenger side fuse box, which I didn't touch at all)
4. what is "C2" before clustering into the dashboard temperature gauge??

where does the 16-pin connector go?? I'm all confused...

Can't say enough thanks for all the help I'm getting!
