I searched the forum and did not find any general thread/topic about "bad" or "shady" Honda dealerships that are out there in the US. :dunno: More specifically, the service department. I understand this can be a very subjective thread due to individual experience but it sure would be nice to know what dealerships to be wary of...to include other dealerships too. I would assume that there are probaby more positive experiences than negative but here goes...

:thumbsdow DRUM HONDA, WATERTOWN, NY (OWNED BY DEALMAKER) :thumbsdow

My short story:

About a month ago I took my car in to the service department to get my oil changed, tires rotated and balanced (with a coupon). At the time, I had no problems with the customer service. After driving my car for the next few days, I noticed I had an abnormal vibration at highway speeds. A week and a half later I washed my car just to notice the driverside mud guard was crushed. Looking even closer, my door sil molding was crushed along with my front fender slightly bowed out. My car was not damaged like that before I brought it in for the service, and I would have known if I did it my self. Two weeks after my last service (real busy work schedule), I took my car back to the dealership for my wheel being out of balance and for them to fix my fender that they damaged.

First thing I did was check out their shop/lift that they used to work on my car with the service manager. The Honda Odyssey that was on the lift was being damaged and I pointed that out. Hindsights 20/20 I should've taken a picture of it. And when the dealership manager showed up he immediately denied that they did the damage.

I've gotten a professional body shop estimate and opinion of the damage (they even said I am not the first to report Drum Honda damaging a vehicle). I've contacted Dealmakers customer relations but never go a response. I'm in the process of using Honda's customer service complaint department (based out of CA) but the claims rep has already said that the outlook of Drum Honda taking responsibility for the damages doesn't look good (he already talked to the manager and is still working the issue; I'll find out the results in about a week). My next course of action is small claims court... Who knows how that will go...I'm so pissed!!! :furious::censored::furious::censored:

will it be too much if we do something like take pictures of our cars in the service bay just before the service tech takes it?

will it cause the service techs to be irritable and show that we don't trust them enough?

Take a digicam with you. Snap pics of car before service work, and thoroughly examine vehicle after service work is completed. If there's a discrepancy then point it out as compared to your pictures and then the service department won't have a leg to stand on.

Sounds like a great idea...especially if it means several hundred dollars of repairs.

Just look at it when you pick it up upon delivery. Waiting two weeks to bring the car back is probably a huge part of the dealerships denial of the damage.

My Service advisor does a walk around of the car when I drop it off for service. They mark off where the car has pre-existing damage. :)

Fox Honda in Grand Rapids Michigan has a wonderful service department. So if you require service you can trust them. Just keep your fingers crossed that you needn't deal w/ Matt Thomas their GM.

Fox Honda in Grand Rapids General Manager Matt Thomas is someone that, thru my personal experience, is unfair, not customer oriented, and should be moved to a non-customer related position.

Fox Ford in Grand Rapids is another dealer to avoid.

Fox Collision in Grand Rapids is another bodyshop to avoid.

By all means, add happiness to your life and avoid Fox Honda, Fox Ford, and Fox Collision.

The other car that was damaged from that same dealership took their car back the next day and they denied the damage.

One of my co-workers who owns a sweet black S2000 CR also had issues with their service department. Apparently, they did some work on his car that later damaged his A/C compressor. They denied it and he had to go through Honda's Customer Service complaint department for them to get it repaired.

...and another co-worker who owns an blue S2000 has had his speaker damaged during service... the tech told him nothing was wrong when you could clearly hear the "broken speaker" rattle.

So from my point of view their service department is "shady" and their manager doesn't care what they do to other peoples cars...they are just hoping that I walk away from all this...what infuriated me even more about the dealership manager was that when he was speculating about the damage to my vehicle, he said that "maybe a car backed into it?" :headbash: With the fender bowing out, mudguard and molding crushed, I think not...to even speculate that, he didn't even look at the damage to my car! When I told him that I wanted to pull my car into the bay to see if the lift feet lined up with the damage to my car he was quick to say no...he didn't even care that his employee was damaging the Odyssey on the lift! I know I'm not the first person to get their car damaged by this dealership and I'm pretty sure he knows this too! Most people would get discouraged by all this and walk away but, I'm not!!! :furious::furious::furious:

LaFontaine Honda in Dearborn, MI, off of Telegraph rd. I had a very bad experience with their service dept. Went in for a transmission flush, came out with a car without 2nd or 3rd gear, check engine light on and D4 light flashing. Was told I needed to fork out $$ for diagnostics and thousands of dollars for a new transmission. Turned out that some wires had been cut/removed.

Troy Honda in the Troy motor mall in Troy, MI (I forget the name of the road) was an entirely different experience. Very friendly service advisors and I never had a problem with the work they performed.

Coggin Honda here in Orlando has good customer service, but I feel that the advisors push too hard to upsell.

I was in there just yesterday getting the oil changed in the 07. The service advisor came to me TWICE to try and convince me that I needed a tire rotation,$40 engine air filter, $80 cabin filter and various inspections. The second time, he also threw in that my rear brake pads were down and for just $159, they could get on it right away. Dude, for the last time, I just want an oil change... I changed the cabin and engine filter myself in 15 minutes.

Rear pads at 24.5k miles? Is that normal? The 06 made it to at least 32k before they told me the rear pads were in need of replacement... and even that seemed premature for rear pads to me.

On the other hand, they always play newly released movies on a large flat screen television, serve Krispy Kreme donuts, popcorn, honeybuns, candy, etc. There is even a cappacino machine. If you don't feel like a movie, they've got free internet access, XBox for the kids and even a barber and massage therapist on certain days of the week.

How do you know about the Odyssey driver bringing their car back the next day?

Obviously, since both of you have had this same issue, it would be wise of you to come together and either seek legal counsel or have a meeting with the person who owns/runs the dealership with both of your cars present.

The odyssey that was on the lift when I returned two weeks later was quickly removed from the lift as soon as I pointed out the damage. I have no idea who that person is. Like I said in my first post, I should've taken pictures of that car. :headbash: The service tech was quick to slap on the wheels and lower the car when he heard that the Dealership manager was coming back there. The tech also said that odysseys are too wide for that lift  Then why is it on that lift??? :dunno: The service Manager saw the damage and said nothing to the dealership manager when I was arguing with him...

As for the other odyssey, that was damaged from that dealership and took it back the next day, I have no idea who they are. I found out that story from the body shop I got the estimate from. They said it wasn't about two or three weeks ago that that happened. I will go back to that body shop to see if I can get a statement about the claim that person made...if they can do that... :dunno:

...hence, beware of DRUM HONDA, WATERTOWN, NY!!!...

Well I just got my "New" baby today. I bought the I4 PMM/Dark Interior EX-L. I have to say that this bitch is sweet.

MSRP: 26K I got the internet deal for 23K.

Anyone in the Los Angeles area and looking for any Honda I would definitely recommend going to http://www.1sthonda.com/ and and submit an online quote. You'll more than likely will speak or be in contact with a Sales Rep named Blaine.

One of the things I really liked about Blaine is that even though he had my number he never called me to hound me about buying a car and he also kept his emails to minimum; basically only to respond to my inquiries.

Now let me talk about the bad experience I had before going to the dealership above. I won't mention them by name but they're in Van Nuys and they marked up the price of the same car for 31K (YES THE I4). Now the only thing I noticed difference was the mud flaps and wheel locks, everything else was stock. Also even more shady was when I test drove the car it only had the sticker for the MSRP price for 26K, then all of a sudden after the driving the car back to the dealer's office to haggle on price the sales rep had 31K on his price sheet. Now I was kinda of confuse because I did test drive the v6 and I thought maybe he was quoting me for the v6 (even though the V6 MSRP was 28K). So I asked him where he got that price from and he said that it was on the car, so we walked back outside and sure enough there was new little sticker next the original sticker. So at the time I thought maybe I missed seeing that sticker; but I walked out the door because that was waaaaay too much for an I4.

So while driving to the other dealership I realize that those fools actually had put that new sticker on the car while waiting in the office, because I know dam sure that I did a thorough walk around the car and that sticker wasn't on their before.

Oh and their excuse for marking up the price of the car..... "It's a new design and we need to make a profit"

From my sales and service experiences in the St. Louis, MO area:

I'd avoid:
Meyer Honda in O'Fallon, IL: service department (shoddy work; arrogant demeanor)
Ike Honda in Carbondale, IL: sales department (arrogant demeanor; extremely high-pressure sales tactics)
St. Louis Honda: sales department (arrogant demeanor; high-pressure sales tactics; act as though they're doing you a favor by even talking to you)

I recommend:
Ike Honda in Carbondale, IL: service department (free rentals and shuttle service; fast turnaround; polite staff)
Meyer Honda in O'Fallon, IL: sales department (polite staff; low/no pressure sales tactics; very knowledgeable staff)
Huey's Honda in St. Louis, MO: sales and service departments (polite staff; quality work; low-pressure sales tactics; put their best foot forward on price)

For what it's worth, a little update on my Dealmaker Drum Honda experience:

About a month ago, I finally took Drum Honda to court for the damages they did to my car. I was prepared to give a full detailed statement with documentation on the brand and style lift they used on my Honda; photos for the judge to look at; and the damage quote from the body shop. Long story short, they did not show to court; so the judge ruled in my favor. They owe me approximately $400 for the damages. They have yet to pay me.

I've also reported them to the BBB and am working on "black listing" them so that they will loose their business from the Fort Drum soldiers.

Their no-show to the court apparently shows me that they don't care about me or their reputation as a "good" dealership. Their arrogance is disgusting and I refuse to take my Accord to get serviced there. I'd rather drive 60 miles to Syracuse to get my Honda serviced at Lamaccia Honda.

My final advice to anyone who passes by Watertown, NY, or decides to live here, don't get your Honda serviced at Dealmaker Drum Honda. :thumbsdow And that's what I'm advising to any and all of my Military friends. Bottom line is, THEY ****!!!

Well, If you are living in Calgary, Alberta. canada, do not go to HONDAWEST, they are the worse and horrible dealership that I have ever dealth with. They do not care about customer concerns and very arrogant. T & T HONDA in the other hand is the most healpful and friendly dealership in town, I do not bought the car from them, but they are so helpful and willingly help me out time after time. That including their management and the service department.

DO NOT GO TO BILL PAGE BODY SHOP in Fairfax, VA:thumbsdow

I had a dent about the size of a watermelon in my driver's side rear panel. I took it to the body shop on a Wed, with the promise it would be done by COB on Friday.

Below is a brief summary of my experience: (this is the actual timeline I faxed over to the BBB and to the dealership)

Summary: Arrived at 5:15pm on Wed to pick up car
1. Initial inspection:
a. Painted the rear passenger window – looked like spray paint
b. Paint on the driver side taillight
2. Second inspection: ~5:40pm
a. Small amount of paint remained
b. Checked the metallic trim around window
c. Weather stripping had been pinched underneath (about 1in)
d. Metallic finish at the rear corner of window was not properly adhered to the body of the car
1. Mentioned to MNGR, continued inspection
3. Interior inspection: ~5:45pm
a. First thing: floorboard/floor mat (black)
i. Covered in white powder, liquid etching
1. Sandy tried to tell me that a fine power floats around the shop and it is difficult to keep out of car.
a. If so, why not at least vacuum out the vehicle?
ii. White paint splatter on door panel, driver side dash
iii. Black leather steering wheel and airbag/horn had GLOBS of white paint on them
iv. Driver seat (beige leather) was filthy, black in places.

4. Waited until 6:50 for vehicle to return. At that point, attempted to go inside and speak with someone. Door was locked. Building was empty.
5. Walked around back, saw my car parked.
a. Went to inspect to see if they had even cleaned the interior, appeared to have wiped off the dash, seat still filthy.
b. Careful inspection of vehicle, discovered:
i. Weather stripping had not been addressed
ii. TWO scratches on back bumper.
1. One was about 1x1 inch abrasive scratch, just left of center
2. 1cm long, deep scratch into paint and clear coat at about center of bumper
6. Everyone had just left. Said nothing, explained nothing, just left. ON A FRIDAY. Called BPH on Friday, June 20 @ 6:54 pm – Left VM

Notes:

Called BPH @ 3:36pm on 6/23/08, after receiving message from Bill Page Jr. on Saturday, 6/21/08, which stated he would follow up on Monday, had not called by 3:30pm. He was unavailable, playing golf!

- Clear Lake Honda: Sales was a "fast track" style of selling, did not appreciate it (2 out of 5); Service, I've spoken with them off and on for years, always very helpful by phone (no direct experience in the shop. (Hear they have some new master Honda tech starting soon...some "Prince" guy that should be pretty good :D)
John Eagle Honda, NW Houston: Excellent service back in 04 and 05 on new tranny and installing window tints (5 out of 5), they have multiple top rating from Honda, too. Sales was very receptive recently on email inquiries but did not have color combo to execute the deal

The dealer i bought the car from was actually a real nice guy, no problems there. But man did i have problems with their service dept!

1) Had to take my 08 accord a week after i bought it to get the sun visor replaced because the vanity mirror light wasnt working. I figured how long can that take right? :dunno: I showed up at 7am with appt to drop it off and didnt get my car back til 5pm. wtf?!?!

2) I got a couple of accessories with my car, fogs and new rims and tires. the service rep told me that they had to order them and they would call me when they got there. I waited 2 weeks, no call. i decided to call their parts dept and ask if they had gotten anything in yet. they guy told me...yea they are here. i asked when they had received them, he told me about a few days ago. surprisingly enough an hour later the service guy calls...when can u come in???

3) This one is the best one yet...after dropping off my car and having them put my new rims and tires on (oh and yes it took them the whole day again...7am til 5pm) i went and picked up my car. the service guy kept tellin me how nice they were....was he trying to avoid the subject maybe???...so i just answered with, yea they are...so where did u guys put my old wheels?? he answered with, oh u wanted to keep them? WTF! :censored: why wouldnt I??? then he tried to talk his way out of it and confuse me or somethin, he kept tellin me how i had agreed on swappin them for the new ones or maybe traded them in. i was like what?! no, i paid for them when i bought the car, they are mine! why would i give them to u for free if i paid for them! Argh! i was so pissed at the moment! so i had to come back the next day and talk to the senior rep guy cuz hes the one who f'ed up and had to give me a new set.

4) this is the last time i was there, i had to go back after the tire incident to get a new fog light switch for my car since they installed fogs but forgot that i might want to turn them on and they freakin didnt put a switch in! but anyway, again, drop it off at 7am and they weren't done til 5pm! wtf??? but this time when i picked it up they had put 10 miles in my car! how the hell do u put 10 miles in a car when u are just putting in a new nob for the fogs?! :dunno: joy ride maybe??? cause when i got in the car the stereo was on and the volume was at 25! (i always turn it off when i visit the dealership and purposely set the volume to zero to see if they are messing with my stereo) :headbash:

i am never goin back there again.....dont go to SERRAMONTE HONDA in CA

DO NOT go to:

-Honda West in Las Vegas. Absolutely horrible service. I called to price out a coupe and got 5 different answers. Horrible prices too. One guy I talked to there when I visited said that they don't go below MSRP on the coupes because 'they are special'. HA! No joke, that's what he said! Ridiculous. They told me they would call me back once too, but never did. There's a reason why their lot had 3 times as many coupes sitting there then the other dealers I visited. They don't like to sell em'...they make great decorations! Oh so 'special'...HA!

Visit:

-Findlay Honda Las Vegas. Nice staff, easy to work with. I got a test drive right away and was answered properly to all my questions. Low hassle for paperwork too. I got my car for $200 under invoice, no upsells. The sales guy was cool with me too, no BS. I bought the second to last coupe on their lot.
-Findlay Honda Henderson in Las Vegas. I didn't buy my car from them but they were good with service and had friendly folks. Same company as the one above, just different location.

From my experiance in car sales here in Canada, Honda Canada does not allow any dealer to sell above MSRP unless there are justified upgrades to the vehicle.

Im sure Honda US works in a similar way.

All long stories, shortend - TMI any way...

South Bay Honda (Los Gatos) Ca.
I witnessed them NOT changing my AT Fluid (~$90). I want my money back!!!
Long story short, Reported them to Ca BAR. BAR Said unless, I had evidence that they did not do the work, they could not do any thing.
BAR is worthless...
I also reported this to American Honda - no effect...

Gilroy (Ca) Honda.
What they did correct: Replaced AT under warranty at 100K miles!
What they did wrong: They Left the sub frame bolts loose (and battery terminals). When I took it back several times, never found anything - apparently did not look. They said, "no problem found." Finally I had to take it to my own alignment guy, he found several bolts lose. Problem solved (sorta. Trany still make noises during transitions from D to R).
I also reported this to American Honda - no effect...

Ocean Honda (Was in Santa Cruz, now in Capitola) Ca). An old neighbor, had an aftermarket car alarm. Apparently the alarm went off during an oil change, the mechanic using wire cutters, started cutting wires, from drivers side fuse box, till the alarm went off. Most of the wires that were cut were the original Honda wires, not just the alarm's. The Car had to be towed home! The Dealership, said it was not their fault. After long negotiations, Dealership agreed to fix Honda's wiring, but refused to repair any cut after market wiring. Alarm remains damaged (cut out) as of today (She cant afford to repair it).
Was reported to American Honda, I believe, this is who got them to repair the wiring, this was a new car, still under warranty, at that time...

How is it, that Corporate (American) Honda, allows this SH**????

************************************************** *********************
American (corporate) Honda:
Don't you have any self respect. Don't you care about your customers?

What you (Honda) should do:
Corporate/ American Honda, tell your dealers, if they don't fix problems, honer warranty's, you wont sell them cars - you will lose your franchise!!!

I wish I had read this before buying my 2008 Accord. Unfortunately I did buy from this dealership and had the worst experience ever with a new car. Salesman Kirk Jack always seemed rushed and was arrogant. The delivery was poor, after paper work was done, I was given the keys and a weak hand shake, had to go out to the lot and find my car after about 10 minutes-no go over-nothing. Most irritating though: they used the wrong VIN number on all documents including the title. It took over a month to get resolved. Matt Thomas was rude, uncaring, and did not offer any recourse for my time and hassle. Their price was lower than others in the area but a few hundred dollars is not worth it. I can't speak for their service as I will never go back to this dealer for anything! Please never buy a car from the FOX group.

Fox Honda in Grand Rapids Michigan has a wonderful service department. So if you require service you can trust them. Just keep your fingers crossed that you needn't deal w/ Matt Thomas their GM.

If you are looking for a good dealership in West Michigan I would recommend Battle Creek Honda. We bought five cars from them and they were good to work with each time.

In Houston stay away from Honda of Katy......absolute worst car experience when I was buying my car. I had to laugh at the guy before I walked out, he told me I they would not negotiate off of sticker for a sedan.

Sorry about your exp. at Fox. I drove by GR this past weekend, seems like the franchise is expanding due to their ripoff sales from unsuspecting buyers. I've shopped for cars many times at Fox, I almost bought a rsx a few years back if it wasn't for their greed and decieving mindset. they gave me a pricing for a new rsx when the one i was looking at was a used one, not a good start in gaining a buyer's trust. recently when i bought my accord, i shopped around over there also and one quick look at the prices on their inventory and i was out the door before I even entered. my cousin totally overpayed for her TL last year because her salesman knew she needed a replacement car for school after her accident, her arm was still in a cast too! dont they have any remorse! stay way from this stealership, don't know about their service dept though.

another stealership to avoid is sundance in mid-michigan. Did all my homework, had papers and resources to back up an offer on a B6 audi avant but the salesman and his boss pressured me to buy at their price eventhough i knew the demand for that car was basically nonexistant where i live. the sales manager seemed pissed that i even wanted to speak with him, and told me there have been many inquiries about the audi, yeah right. i just so happen to be an enthusiast of the a4's. he argued that HIS information was correct rather than listen to me. fast forward a month later and guess who calls back, yep the same salesman, says the price dropped >$1k right to about where i wanted a month earlier (actually still overpriced and more than i offered). too bad though, it's been a few weeks since that call and the car is still on their lot. sundance has a good inventory of cars and hondas, they have semi good pricing, but horrible and unknowledgable salesmen looking for a quick steal out of struggling michigan residents. I had to dispute my deposit w/my bank to get it back too because their finance dept. had some "errors", what a b****.
