My dear Accord community:

I have a dilema for the brake pads for my 1999 Accord with 51.500 miles. My Accord has 4 disk brakes system. There is two options for me, one is the genuine brake pads from Honda and the other option is CARBOMET PAD SET for US$ 39.95 per front axis and US$: 37.95 per rear axis. This CARBOMET PAD SET claims the following:

"The best street/performance pads for your Accord! Carbomet brake pads are made from a semi-metallic, carbon fiber composite. Carbon fiber is more resistant to heat so you can expect less brake fade under hard braking conditions, increased stopping power and low dust levels."

Which one will be my best option based on your vast experience and what will be your honest opinion about this CARBOMET story? Is this CARBOMET a bull or true?

I want to thnk you in advenaced to all of you for your help, and time answering my questions, very kind from you

sounds like markteing bull to me, but I'm no brakes expert. when I did my brakes I went to PepBoys they gave me 2 options, $14 a set or $35 a set. I went w.the $35 ones and have no problems/complaints

Easy answer is stick with genuine Accord pads. I'm at 59K and my original front pads (have drums on back) still show a lot of life.

Stick with the OEM ones. Usually any aftermarket pads that exceed the OEMs such as the Hawks usually cost more than the OEM ones.

All the Pepboys brakes are junk. They are made of a harder material to last longer for that lifetime warranty at the expense of warping your rotors.

I used GrandSport G6's (Carbon/Ceramic/Matalic), but next time it will be Hawk equivalent.
Make sure you install whatever pads u get correctly, per the Honda Repair manual. And replace the, "Pad clip" - Honda speak (the abutment clip), unless you like rattling noises...
I like the GS6 pads, they have better feel, slightly less pedal effort; But, can get a little grabby at extreme temp, seems to squeak a little under extremely light peddle application, and sometimes at other times. This maybe do to how many times, I took it apart, trying to fix that darn rattling, that the clips fixed...

Dear Accord friends:

Thank you for your opinions and suggestions and inputs. I think that I will be going buying the Genuine Honda Pads, plus Mr. Hawkins suggestions of buying also the pad clips. Eventhough I hate tremendously any noise on the car, so I do have any rattling noises.

Mr. Cajun, just to say hello to you and thank you for your always great comments. Same to everyone here. Thank you guys

Unless you are having problems with the clips they don't need to be replaced. I have never replaced them on my Integra and Accord and don't have a problem with them. Just make sure to clean them with a little brake cleaner.

If they needed to be replaced as part of the pads they would be included in the pad kit just like they are on Hyundai.
