View Full Version : Cooler Exposed

Anyone else have a concern about the exposed transmission cooler? A grill/mesh would have helped to provide some protection. Those are mostly bugs stuck fast in photo, however, I did find some distorted fins and a 3/8" stone laying below cooler.

That's the A/C Condensor I'm pretty sure.

The transmission is cooled via the radiator.

That's actually the A/C condenser. I share your concern. I thought about pulling the bumper and placing some black screen material over the opening. I just don't want to screw up the looks of the car.:dunno:

the rice-like mesh grille coverings are not so bad after all on our cars

I am thinking of a fine mesh (screen)

Well

For anyone interested.

I already "put a rock" through mine.

AC stopped working one day, took the car in, was told that it wasn't under warranty, but that they'd replace it on good faith due to the car only having 6k miles on it.

So if anyone comes up with a good way to cover it up, I'd be interested.

There are black ones that aren't so gaudy.

i'm with you, all these mesh and billet grilles just don't look good on the car... we have a classy lookin car and they look terribly cheap.

something black and hidden would be awesome.

that wouldn't look too bad if it were black w/ the chrome trim up top and all black below, again, mounted in the back.

have a link to the auction/seller?

I agree. I would also paint the visible portion of the A/C Condenser black also to make everything disappear.

haha, dude I didn't even noticed that it was exposed. Now (seeing from your picture) I am concerned as well. =/ I have to agree with you guys, a nice black screen would be nice.

now that i'm lookin at it... look at the upper left and right hand sides of the top grille... they don't even line up the same

guess its just a cheap mesh overlay that sticks on the stock grill... no thanks.

If you want the stealth look, you can do what I did with my truck.

I took some window screen from Home Depot and zip tied it to my grill of the truck. You can't see it and I NEVER have to pick out a bug from my radiator. No rock dents or anything.

Just spray the screen from the inside out to clean it and it is good as new.

Best part? The entire roll is <$10 and you can make multiple cut outs and use it for your home.

I don't have any pictures right now, but I'll take some tomorrow for ya. Obviously it will not be the same considering I have a truck, but I'm sure you could figure a way out to make the screen work on the Accord (you might have to take the bumper off to get it attached).

I'd bet even Gorilla glue might work. You can also spray paint the screen black if it isn't black enough from the store.

P.S. The Tundra's slots on the grill are to wide and thus many Tundrasolutions members did this to avoid bent condenser fins and rocks.

almost seems like a glaring opportunity for a targeted product that would sell VERY well on fleabay if it came about, was pre cut and easy to install (IE no bumper needed to come off)

I like steven's home made idea and is definitely right around what the cost should be on something of this nature (custom inserts are usually so outrageously priced for what you really get , its not like its REAL chrome or made for a BMW or MB) so maybe someone will do a write-up/DIY post with pics (sorry , no time until next month for me to be in guinea pig mode, otherwise I would)

I wish I was closer as I could help one of y'all out. Heck, I even have the screen to donate.

I liked the screen b/c it was pretty much invisible and was cheap.

One of y'all have to be looking for a nice weekend project :D

I think I'm gonna have to buy some chicken wire this weekend and paint it black to go behind the bumper this way it's not really seen.

For the truck, the grill was removable, so I took it apart, pressed the screen down the bolts, and screwed the nuts down on the screen. Lots of guys used zip ties to hasten the process.

I imagine the Accord would be better with Zip ties or some Gorilla glue.

if i wanted to clean the ac condenser, could i jus spray it down with a hose? or do i have to remove it?

stevencrosbie
05-12-2008, 06:39 PM
I just spray mine down with a hose. Just like the condenser, I usually spray the opposite way of air flow.

I have used there stainless steel fronts on previous vehicles and have phoned them and e-mail them, but still waiting for them to make one for an 08 Accord. Mean while I've installed a bug screen in front of the condensor.

With out some protection your condensor could end up looking like this. Ouch come on Honda you got to come up with a better way.

Easy for StevenCrosbie 'cause his grill lifts up as part of his hood on the truck!

I'm also looking into buying an 08 coupe and that open front is also a concern for me.

So when I look at the HFS Concept; I'm wondering what they're using to cover the front end of that car.

Whatever it is I like because I doesn't bring attention to it and instead the attention is on the car where it should be..
