So I have my coupe leased for the next 4 years. Everything I have done so far is fully reversible, if needed.
I am going to get tint next but my dad is saying that tint could interfere with us being able to give the car back when the lease is up. Saying that its not the dealership that cares its Honda Finance.
He claims that any mods done to the actual look of the car make the value go down, including tint.
So i ask...is this true? He says there is wording in the lease about it...I havent looked myself but I will.
What is everyone's opinion on this?
(To make it further confusing, I plan on doing intake, and he says thats fine.... :dunno:)

Intake is fine since you can pop it off when you return. I also wouldn't think tint would be a big deal since most dealers offer tint as well. But even if honda did have a problem with it, how much are you really going to lose over tint? With leases I'd be more worried about dings and scratches that might actually bring down the value rather then tint.

I'd also re-think the green and orange dragon on the sides of the car as well.

yeah i got a couple of dings and scratches already....for sure when i am in the last couple of months with the car i am going to get it detailed nice to hide everything...the dings are thankfully just dings with no paint loss, so ill get them popped out
I dont have to worry about normal wear and tear stuff do I? the front bumper is getting beat up nicely with highway driving....
and as much as I am thankful I was able to get this car, with the but being i have to take over payments once i graduate college.... life lesson learned...leases arent for me....the moment i get anything i like to tinker and mod...heck brand new might not even be for me....me 1st car was used and i loved not having to worry about anything....

nah, because by that time I will be 25 and insurance will go down and I can get a sports car then.
I would have gotten the v6 with the accord, but the payment for the i4 was right at the top of what we could afford....at any rate its 100x better than my 03 dodge neon that i abused every day, haha

The only issue you'd have with tinting the windows is whether the tint would be legal in a state where Honda might try to resell the vehicle. Depending on the age/mileage/condition, lease turn-ins sometime result in certified preowned vehicles for a dealer - and if you tint the windows and make the car not be able to be registered in a state near where you live, that might be the issue they'd find at turn-in. I know when chatting with the inspector before we turned in our Pilot last year that he had a tint light meter in his car next to some other stuff. Of course I live in the northeast where tinting isn't as popular and they sometime get southern cars with tint illegal here in this area - so this may not be an issue in your area.
Otherwise, normal "wear and tear" are acceptable, especially if it's a 4-year lease.

IMO, in 4 years you will be able to sell the car for more than residual value as long you keep it in good condition and find the right buyer.
I plan to do a few mods to the car and then continue to pay monthly payments after the lease is up until I can sell the car...that is if I want to sell the car at that time. I have a 42 month lease and residual is like $16,500. I think after about 4 years, I can get that, or more, from a buyer - other than Honda.
