Got a great deal on an 08 Accord Coupe PMM V6 EX-L, Auto.
Only problem is last night put down the deposit so they could locate one, had one in a nearby city, but this morning some douchebag bought it, and now they can't find one anywhere else, so I have to get it directly from the package. Ugh, I've been taking the bus for-ever, and I need a job. So many of the places that I am applying to or have an interview at are not far with a car, but sometimes 5-9 times longer to get to on bus. My dad also took a week off of work to deal with the purchase of the car, insurance, etc. This is just frustrating beyond comprehension, as everything was lined up. Do you think I would be justifiable in asking for an even more reduced price?

Patience is a virtue.... I was told that I would have to wait up to 4-6 weeks before getting my car! But I lucked out when some lady who ordered the exact same one as me suddenly cancelled her order (losing part of her deposit too). :D
Anyhow... I'm a proud owner of the 2008 Accord EX-L 2-door 5MT (I4) :)
Got my windows tinted Sunday, and just got the VentureShield done today as well.
So yeah, the wait is truly worth it.... just think, once you get it you'll never remember the time you waited - you'll be too busy enjoying your beast ;)

Your dad took a week off from work to "deal with purchase of the car, insurance, etc?"
That must be a whole lot of "etc" if he took a whole week off, because insurance is a matter of a phone call, and purchasing a car does not take a week.

Took the week off because he wants a vacation anyways, the insurance we are in the midst of getting lowered and so we are checking various places. The whole thing woulda been faster if they had it in stock, which I knew they didn't, but I wouldn't have been as infuriated if they hadn't even propagated the notion that there was one available and ready for me to have within the week.

I don't mind the wait, it just totally destroys my plans and my father's. Need a vehicle to get to job interviews which take an eternity to get to on the bus as they are located in industrial areas. Other jobs require a vehicle to begin with. I'm incredibly patient, yet when you planned for something for 6 months, were informed that a vehicle was available, and then receive a phone call the next day, and had spent the previous night telling people that you were getting your car within the week, it naturally leads one to be upset.
In the grand scheme of things it may not be that big of a deal, but it is preventing me to a large extent of going through with the jobs that I require in order to pay for the car, as well as law school.
Your dad is buying your FIRST car a brand new 260HP car? Tell him to buy you a 1990's Civic. At least you won't kill yourself.

Yeah man this is a beast of a car to be your first...but not hatting...congratulating...patience is key here...i would definitely try to finagle some more money off if the dealer messed up...or try to get an accessory for free...
oh, and as far as the bus goes...Suffer!!!! :D it builts character man. IT will make you appreciate the car all the better...shoot, i took the bus to work for about a year...
Take it from someone that had to wait 3 months...it will be sooner that you think...next thing you know you'll be starting threads about your car...:) patience...

Already got them to give me the mats, lock nuts, window tint, trunk tray, 3M rockguard, splash guards, and two honda hats.
And yah I've driven for five years, just this is my first car technically, and i'm paying 75% of it, including insurance, etc. Just need my dad to buy it because he has the credit history, as well as the insurance will be cheaper under his name, significantly.
I've suffered too many travesties at the hand of the bus, that I don't want to get into.

Ok, I see where you're coming from. I got jacked around a few times buying my coupe too. The guy told me he located and would have it in a week, but he lied just to get my business. It took me 3 months to get my car, and evey dealer wanted me to put money down for a car that they didn't have or didn't know when they would get. However, if you knew you were going to be going on interviews, you should at least have had a back up plan to get where you needed to go in case there was a problem with buying your new car.

I would try to put the car under your name if possible. It will help build your credit history, so when you buy a house later, you'll have a long credit history to back you up. Insurance, definitely put it under your dad's name if you are under 25 and male.

It's got some nice power, but It's not an untameble rear wheel drive beast like some people seem to think. It being front wheel drive though, the car does have some torque steer to the left during some high acceleration. As for the wait, sure it sucks now, but once you get that car it will be THAT much more nice as you drive by the bus stops. :)

Ok, I wondered about that. I thought the car pulling to the left was a problem with my tires or my allignment, but it doesn't happeen at lower speeds. It usually happens when I'm going 55-70 mph on the highway.

he is saying acceleration, which has nothing to do with speed (well constant speed), if yours does this while cruising, that isnt torque steer
when you gun it off the stop, you might feel your car pull a bit and a little corrective steering input is needed (though this car is very good at handling this phenomenon present in front wheel drive cars)

I waited 4 months for a black coupe loaded, never came to pass. As i know now the dealer can request a car, but no promise will be given. He really has no clue. If I was willing to pay a huge premium I could locate one on the net and a few states removed. I ended up with a nice blue coupe and dressed it up with tinted windows, TSW chrome wheels and Magniflow exhaust system. It is my wives car as my str Jeep is way to much for her to handle Good luck you will smile at the end

I did not want the money back--I wanted the car, I took the blue because the wife was driving me up the wall, which I have to admit is better than her driving the Jeep and me sweating that out. The coupes are high in demand and the dealers can get a higher price. This is the way Honda works, it is up to the dealer to locate your car.I even called and talked to Honda headquarters and it was the same story. I would have gone for a Acura coupe but none made. Your money is always refundable from a dealer. What can be done is to order from more then one dealer, and see who wins. You will get the money back from the others.- good luck

Would you accept another color? I was just like you bro. I was set on Belize Blue EX-L/navi. The checked in 5 states and could not find one. Out of those states there were just 2 coupes with navi. grey and silver. So i took my 2nd pick. Silver. So again do you have a 2nd pick that would satisfy you?

No, I don't settle for second best, there can only be one ... number one.
They have already ordered the color, they just keep on providing me with bs, and a lack of a precise date of delivery, constantly prolonging and extending it. It's a brand new dealership, and the other place I dealt with prior to it opening also could not find this color, I could have had one from another province but would have to pay money .. which is bs, dealer should cover that, and also if I had gone ahead and got that, who is to say, they still wouldn't bs me. They found a car for me the night I placed down my deposit, and then boom the next morning some fool bought it.
I got the best price from any dealer from them, but this process is preposterous.
andysinnh
05-19-2008, 10:14 AM
this time of year it's difficult to know whether an "ordered" car will really come through. Assembly lines typically stop making cars in the may/june timeframe in order to retool for the next model year. So part of it may be dealer "bs", but part may be an issue in communication between Honda and the dealer.
I know you've had a stance that "you don't settle for second best - there can only be one #1" - but in this case, you're caught in a time of year that could either make you compromise if getting a car in a different color for your new job is a priority, or whether you stick to your mantra and wait, which could mean a 2009 model several months from now.
My sister had the same mantra while in college, in that she had no substitute for her "perfect" husband, and would never settle for second best. That was 27 years ago, and she's still single, still looking. Sometimes, you have to let a little variance come into your life to move forward....

OP, it couldnt hurt to ask for a reduced price. asking never hurts, worst you'll get is a no. just think of how you want to ask to make the statement most effective. maybe something to the effect of "i could have gone to ___ lot down the street and been in my car already, and instead you guys are holding my hard earned cash. you've inconvenienced me and you have my cash deposit. wanna pay me interest or just factor all of what you've done into the price?" I don't see why you just don't go to the dealer and pick out one of the accords on the lot..
I mean I see all of you guys on here stressing over an Accord that you ordered and to me it makes no sense to order one, because my local Honda dealer carries one in every shape form size and in every option and color..
Theres atleast 75-100 different 08 Accords to chose from there..
Just go to the lot and chose one, Its just a color, get your next favorite..
To me the accord looks great in every color, I would not be picky when it comes to the coupe, now the sedan, I would get Gold or that Maroon color, but the coupe comes in great colors..
Six speed coupes with nav arnt that rare down in SoCal, You can definitely find one without ordering it, Especially when your talking about a Accord Coupe EX-L V6 AT, thats the most popular Honda they sell..

ty for the providing an approach to dealing with the people, I'll head down this week and get some solid answers, as well as documentation proving to be that they have in fact placed they order, and also a precise delivery date, or else I would purchase a different car. Black on black will be even longer, and the rest of the cars are fine, but first off I don't want a flashy red color just doesn't go with who I am or what I am seeking for, although it looks fine. Secondly, silver -- I already have a silver car, it resembles the silver rsx I have, and is way too common, thirdly, white is fine, but nothing spectacular and is a pain too clean.

Six speed coupes with nav arnt that rare down in SoCal, You can definitely find one without ordering it, Especially when your talking about a Accord Coupe EX-L V6 AT, thats the most popular Honda they sell..
there's five dealers in my city, none of them have any PMM, v4 or v6, only one has a PMM, it's manual, and $50000 (i'm in Canada) - body kit, HFP tires, navi, etc, etc. They don't even have my next favorite color and the wait would be longer for that. I'd have to choose b/w white and red, and I'm not paying a huge amount of money for a car to get it in a color I don't want.

d) so your psychologist friend is the authority on what? that might be the dumbest thing i ever heard. what would your friend think if he knew that a forum full of strangers took a personal vendetta on another stranger? :screwy:
d. she would repeat, "maybe it's not all of 'these people' that are the problem."
keep thinking on it. it ain't that dumb. *pats you on the head*

princess about your 3 strike policy... ya see i can point to numerous members on here who have made numerous personal attacks on me. now, whether i retorted or not is irrelevant to me. i say you ban them, and ban me as well if you deem it necessary. you must uphold your policy.

In THIS thread this comment was made BEFORE any other comments were made to you:
"OP, it couldnt hurt to ask for a reduced price. asking never hurts, worst you'll get is a no. just think of how you want to ask to make the statement most effective. maybe something to the effect of "i could have gone to ___ lot down the street and been in my car already, and instead you guys are holding my hard earned cash. you've inconvenienced me and you have my cash deposit. wanna pay me interest or just factor all of what you've done into the price?" (tho the interest would be nothing, that's besides the point). as far half these guys around here putting in their completely useless "two-cents" about not getting pissed off and them essentially all being ur mommy and daddy and teaching you important life lessons completely unrelated to your question (happened to me too), well, all that "two-cents" must add up to something big! maybe u can put that towards the car too.
Which, to me, sounds like a preempted strike.

So I can't comment on the morality of the dealer and what he's been committing with your deposit and estimated time of "order and arrival" - but I'm wondering how different things are with Canada and the US in terms of obtaining cars (and the flow of orders). I can put my finger on 3 different V6 EX-L 6 speed coupes in my area - but that's in the northeast US. Not sure what the supply chain is to Canada vs US, but it could be a factor. If the dealer's got your cash and can't commit, either take the cash and find another dealer (if one can be found), or let the dice roll and see what you get. Again, it's pretty late in the model year, and I'm sure this is a big factor in what's happening. And if the V6 6-speed coupes are tough to find, you've got to bet that dealers are pulling out favors at the district levels to fulfill their needs. if this dealer is a newer one, they may not have pull to get the cars that an established one might be able to do.

The dealer should have access to the Canada's version of the same info I have. I could locate incoming in any state.:dunno:

it's an auto I'm looking for, but yah I mean they are ordering it from the US, Ohio or something I'm not sure, I could take my money and go elsewhere, but this one is giving me the best price by a landslide, and a bunch of options, the others would be using the same database, but perhaps more renowned, so they might have more pull, all I know is that if I don't get a date of arrival by the end of this week, I'll be bustin heads, adn if the car doesn't arrive by June 15th, I'll either go for a completely different car, or settle for the White with an additional 1000 off for wasting my time and lying to me.e

again, i wonder why you're getting the 'best price by a landslide' yet you're still not getting information about this (nonexistent?) car.
then again, as i'm sure princess can attest to, dealers DO troll these boards, and i'd be laughing pretty hard if i was your dealer and read this post about you going down there and 'bustin heads' and settling for white for more money off. you'd walk in, and they'd say, "riiiiiiight." doesn't sound like they really are too worried about your business. doesn't say much for them as a dealer, but i suspect you'll be better served by just going somewhere else already. it's an accord; it's not like you're trying to order a limited edition lamborghini and are getting the runaround.
*puts self in The_One_Coupe's shoes* if i were you, making these decisions, i'd probably have already been to the dealer, talked to the GM, and explained my situation and dissatisfaction, and had this thing resolved one way or another. but then, that's me. *removes self from said shoes*

You had indicated this was a new dealership? It sounds like they are working hard to please you and retain you as a long term customer by providing you with an execllent "landslide" price, so that you will hopefully come back to them for the service work in the future.
Car allocation, as others have chimed in, is not the easiest especially for a new dealership trying to establish a pecking order in the overall Honda Canada corporate structure.
Another approach you can try is to ask if they would provide you with a loaner car at an extreme discount until your car is built and delivered.
There are and will be bigger things in life to worry about, your new job, your law school, summer coming up, don't let this give you a heartburn and take 5 years off your life!

umm, it's only been two weeks since I put down the deposit, this dealer is brand new, I haven't mentioned the location, and even so, they can go f themselves if they laugh at me, they aren't selling jack there, I'm not going somewhere else, in terms of Honda, if anything I'll buy a TSX or g37. I just posted this yesterday or the day b4, I don't have a car because of these idiots taking forever, and consequently, I'm not going to take the lengthy bus trip to this dealer, which is essentially another city .. albeit very close .. it's essentially a suburb of my city.

ty for ur concern, I'm not hugely pissed off, it's just infuriating to be told one thing and given a date, and it being expected and planned for, and telling people that it was coming, as well as my dad now having to cancel his delay twice, I'd be less upset if they had just told me from the beginning that it would have taken this long.

I wish I knew the zones up there or dealer numbers...
In this zone there are:
1 BK/BK at walnut creek honda
1 BK/BK at stevens creek honda
1 BK/BK at vacaville honda
1 GR/BK at marin honda
1 GR/BK at san leandro honda
1 GY/IV at san leandro honda
1 GY/IV at concord honda
1 GY/IV at oakland honda
marin, san leandro, vacaville & manly all have GR/BK coming in transit
There are 9 BK/BK or GR/BK on order in this zone.
All of these are V6 EXL AT coupes.
There's about 3 dozen BK/BK, GR/BK & GY/IV on hand in zone 1, southern Calif.
About the same numbers in the NY area, zone 5. Walser honda in MN has a GR/BK one. LOTS in the MA CT east area, zone 9.

Actually, the norm on the lots around here are EX-L V6 coupes with AT's - it's the V6 6-speeds that are rare. Most people want the I4's for the gas mileage...
