...On their 2008 Accord Coupe V-6?

If so, what symptons did the vehicle exhibit to require it? I'm having difficulty getting a wheel shimmy condition corrected.

Thanks

I had a shimmy between 68-73 MPH. I had the dealer check the fronts only. The passender side front was off by 10 grams - driver's side was spot on. If you feel the shimmy in the seat or through the body, then the rears may need done. The dealer here in Charlotte uses a Hunter Road Force machine. Perfect now...........:)

I've had the shimmy since delivery. Steering wheel rocks side to side at 58-68 range depending on heat & road surface. Body also vibrates and handling is sloppy during shimmy. The dealer performed a road force balance on all four wheels but the characteristics are exactly the same. perhaps their machine was not calibrated, the wheels weren't torqued properly, I have a bad rim or tire, whatever. They ordered 2 new tires and will work them into the rotation and re-balance with Hunter 9700 RF Balancer

It sounds like balancing may not be the issue for your shimmy then. :dunno: What other causes have you investigated?

they checked the steering rack for play--nothing loose. they haven't check the angles on the alignment rack yet, if the road force balance wasn't done correctly and the front toe angle is off a few degrees, it can cause a shimmy and poor handling.

slightly out of round rotors can also cause a shimmy (at speed, not on brake application)

I think this is the course to go:

1. re- balance with Hunter 9700 RF balancer
2. 2 new tires mounted into the mix
3. cut front rotors slightly
4. four wheel alignment
5. proper torquing of wheels onto rotor hub

if this fails, I would guess I have a bad rim or loose steering rack slider

as I mentioned in an earlier post, I road tested to stock vehicles not sold yet and they both shimmied--one was horrendous at all speeds. could be the stcok V-6's in their lot have low tires pressure, rusty rotors or poorly balanced wheels

great advice!

Here's what I found:

very helpful. thanks. I'd love to give this to the Svc. Mgr. and the tech who performed the balancing, but in many cases they'll take offense and become disinterested in solving the problem

This is awesome, i'm having this problem with my car! I though it was a bad wheel or balance as i had to have my tire replaced already due to a flat.

In my experiences with wheel shimmies (been driving cars for 30 yrs.), balancing large alloy wheels and tires can be very challenging to eliminate most or all of the shimmy. These cars should always be balanced by an experienced steerin/suspension tech who is extremely knowledgeable utilizing the Hunter 9700 machine.

I had a 2005 Nissan Maxima that required 3 road force balances, 2 alignments, and a front brake rotor resurfacing (all in a 4 day period!) to get a wheel shimmy eliminated
