Does anybody think that a staggered setup will increase understeer? A lot, a little, or none??? I think that using a wider rear tire on a FWD car is lame, but there's no getting around the fact that the rear fender bulges a lot more than the front. I saw an '08 coupe with a staggered setup the other day on the road and I liked the look. But I couldn't help but think about how it was FWD and probably has a lot more understeer. What do you guys think???

I dont think there will be any issues with a staggered setup. You'll be fine. Go for it.

I have a DEEP satggered offset on my rear rims compared to the front rims. I didnt have any major issues once i balanced and aligned the car at a reputable alignment shop. It is done all the time on FWD cars. I wouldnt change the staggered offset if I was to upgrade my rims today.

The only downside to the staggered offset is you cannot rotate your tires from front to back. However you can rotate from left to right as long as you DO NOT use directional tires, which is my issue now. I have directional tires and wont be able to rotate the tires from left to right unless I take the tires off the rim and flip it the other way on the rim (which is a mission). If you dont have directional tires then it is no issue to pull the rims off and rotate from left to right. I have no uneven tire wear after 4000 miles.

Wait I thought you have the same tire width front and rear, just different offset in the rear. Is that true? That kind of setup shouldn't affect handling. I'm talking about having a wider rear tire.

I think jblaut has 8.5" in the front and 9.5" in the rear in terms of wheel width.

19x8 in the front 19x9.5 in the back. 40 and 44 offset. 245/35/19 in the front 275/30/19 in the in the back. Lowered with Eibach springs 1/1.3inches. No issues except I dont reccomend directional tires. The car drives straight.

other option is to put a spacer on the hub bring it out a touch on a 8.5 " rim you can put a 255 40 X on it and it gives a nice sidewqall good ride and looks a little wider.. Im going the same direction as JBL but on 20's

I actually thought about doing that. Except Ill prolly go with 255/35/20 x 8.5

Basically like a Corvette or 370Z. Most staggered setups only help out RWD platforms...

you will be fine. I had 8.5" on front and 10" on rear with my gti and no understeer.

wider in the front? what does that accomplish?

and so for FWD you'd have wider in the back to help out performance?

and so for FWD you'd have wider in the back to help out performance? It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I think the OP is looking to get some 18's for the front and 19's for the rear. More than likely the 19's will be wider than the 18's. That's what a RWD car would do.

If you were at a drag strip with a FWD car, having wider tires on the fronts with some R-compound tires is more popular while having stock or small width wheels on the rear. Basically for grip as I understand it. The Accord is no "race" car, though, so I wouldn't have a staggered setup, whether it looked good (or was functional) or not...

oh okay i got it now. but honestly even though we have fwd i think some wider tires for the back would look sick
