As a diehard do it yourselfer, I just changed the oil for the second time in my V6 Accord. I have to say that it's not that easy. First, I can't drive the vehicle up on my ramps cause the front bumper is so low. Also, I have to take off the right front wheel to get to the oil filter. Has anyone managed to replace their oil filter without taking off the right front wheel?

Hmm you just made me decide its not worth my time to change the oil, I have to jack up my mustang to change the oil and its a pain in the arse. Honda take my money.

In my 03 the oil filter is easily accessible by turning the wheel all the way right. Not sure of the setup on the 08.

Oh, that's interesting. Thanks for the tip. I'll try it next time.

Thread moved to the DIY section.

Sorry, but although 8th gen focused, we need to start adhering to the correct forums.

I'm glad the stealer is doing my first 3 oil changes... ill prob just bring them the synthetic I'd like to use (Mobil 1)

Thanks for the info on the low front fascia and entry to the oil filter..much harder than any car I've owned in the past

I changed my oil for the first time last night, and turning the wheel all the way to the right worked for getting the filter off, but still had to jack it up about 6-8 inches to get the oil trap under the car. I took this picture before I jacked the car up-you can see how easily accessible the filter is:

Yes, that makes it a lot easier. Thanks for the pic.

I got those black plastic ramps from autozone. Looks close but the bumper clears.

Yeah... I have a set that's grey that I've had for years... I think I got them at walmart and they are called Rhino ramps. They clear the bumper just fine!

mcpdjohn-

I had the same problem with my '04 on the ramps. Got an 8' 2X10 and cut it in half. Use the pieces as a lead up to the ramps. No scrapes because you have changed the approach angle to a more gradual one. It was well worth it

McpdJohn and RTexasF:

Rather than (painfully) crawl around on the ground and underneath my '02, I typically buy a five-gallon jug of Mobil 1 and a Honda filter, then slip a "Twenty" to a dealer mechanic while he's on his lunch hour. He can do, "in the air," in no more than 15 minutes, what takes me at least an hour. Plus I don't have to get dirty. Or dispose of the used oil and filter. My total cost: About ~$55.00.

Conversely, as RTexasF points out, the old 2" X 4" trick is an excellent method to prevent scaping lower front ends parts. I have used it for decades.

Jesus-who pays $55 for an oil change? Advance auto has a special thru 9/30 where you get 5 quarts of oil + pure one filter for $15.99.

My honda dealer near me does it for 36.50 and they have my car done within and hour

I have autozone ramps and have no issue with my 08 4cyl sedan. Oil filter is tucked nicely away to make it a bit of a challenge but I do not have to take the wheel off. Perhaps different ramps or drive up the side of a curb clearance permitting.
