I'm proposing the guidelines to be upped to

1) 30 acceptable posts AND 30 days registration. The definition of "acceptable" is unfortunately going to be really vague and determined by the mods, but if you made 30 posts in 5 minutes that's going to be an obvious tip off.

2) Exceptions can be made for certain people who PM or otherwise ask for permission to post, and if the mods think that the item may be something that a forum member may be looking for.

What do you guys think? Before the flaming goes on, I do realize that these rules leave a lot to be determined by the mods, so it will be somewhat subjective. But we will all try to be as fair as possible. Plus, these will not affect normal, active members who participate. Additionally, these are just suggestions/thoughts, and the final say will be left up to forum members.

I know you mod's are busy with actual lives..... but every day at least one to two of you are on at some point......... why not just moderate/approve new classified threads one by one. how many new classifieds threads a week are there? not more than maybe 10 or so? there are not that many of them that it should take any more time for you guys to approve/deny than a couple random postings that mods might do. as long as all mods have access to it............

the only people that think the current rules "suck", are those who the rules are there to keep from being here only to benefit their wallet............

why not just moderate/approve new classified threads one by one.

It has been discussed before and deemed unfeasible for Wards

Like them.... Just as a precautionary measure. Another deterent from people who just end up bumping their own thread all day to just get their classified noticed.

i would definitely be for it.

i have been busy having drama in my life lately, along with watching the pens march to the stanley cup (God-willing)...

I would rather like to be able to approve each thread made in the classifieds forum. I will go for whatever the rest of the forum wants (other than to abolish the rule).

steve,

if i was on as much as i was on last year, i would be for the rule.....

i have taken a lesser role since coming to C-school for the navy in january. i will support whatever the forum decides to do, but keep in mind that i'm not online as much, let alone DA, to help enforce this rule to the greatest extent.....

just FYI....

30/30 rule is fine with me or the 15/30 (AcuraZine) rule you mentioned. In addition to the changes, I'd also make it a requirement that (clear) pics of the actual item(s) be posted as well so we know the item(s) actually exists.

Maybe make a guideline along the lines of:

1. Item for sale
2. Full description of item (new/used)
3. Asking price (Firm or OBO)
4. Pictures
5. Location
6. Reason for selling

And no bumping more than once per day.

1) 30 acceptable posts AND 30 days registration.

30 Acceptable posts is reasonable, but 30 days might be pushing it...i mean only so many people are here for more than 30 days...

But that's the whole point.... to prevent people from just coming here to sell their stuff and then leave, never to be seen again.

If you're not going to participate in this forum, then why should you be given the privilege to sell things here? There's always eBay and Craigslist. Besides, the 30-30 / 15-30 rule may help weed out the scammers too.

I think you might have misinterpreted my point. What I'm trying to say is that some actual accord owners might have joined for lets say two weeks, participated decently, and are wanting to sell their OEM parts because they want to install aftermarket ones. Maybe a whole month might be a bit too much, heck, i've only been on this forum for 2 1/2 weeks now.

True point though. Scammers do take the fun out of buying and selling things, and yes, e-bay and craigslist are attractive alternatives to DA.

Exceptions can always be made...or, it can be 30 posts OR 30 days :dunno: I like exceptions better

I agree, something needs to be done. BenjiBoy's original suggestion seems fair and I also like Steve's "I would rather like to be able to approve each thread made in the classifieds forum." suggestion too.

I think a min 15 post/30 day enrollment policy is good. With so many scams out there, you want to be able to trust the seller. You can trust someone you "know" (relatively speaking) that has been a participating member of the community. If they're that desperate to sell something, exceptions can be made with a member's recommendation. And DA isn't the only place on the internet to sell something - they can move on if its that important to sell.

If a person's post history (however short) tends to demonstrate that they're brazen and somewhat of a jack@$$, I'd bet they'll be like that when you buy something from them.

I'd rather inconvenience a seller I don't know than risk someone I do know loosing money and enduring who knows what frustrations trying to rectify a deal gone bad.

On that note, any member that makes a recommendation should be reasonably confident about the seller and maybe even direct us to seller's posts on other boards if available (instant history). Or if they know them personally, the DA member makes the post and acts as middle man. That puts some accountability on a "familiar face" in the event assistance is needed. If the DA member doesn't want to "host the post" - 1) Why not? Are they not sure about the seller's integrity. 2) If not, the seller can hang out on the board for awhile and post on their own.

Its all about reducing risk to the buyer.

Yeah - did I mention someone in Nigeria stole $5 out of my checking account?? Not very trustful anymore . . . :D
