anyone use these? lots of good reviews on tirerack. I am in need of replacing my tires at 33,000 miles and I priced out the michelins that came with the car $700!!!!! These goodyears have an 80,000 mile tread life and from the reviews seem to handle well in snow rain and dry pavemnet. They are selling for $496 installed from goodyear, plus $50 gas card and $25 or $50 off if I open their high interest card.
please give me any feedback on this tire or on goodyear in general
thanks

those are pretty good tires, if tirerack reviews rate them high then they must be good.
If you are looking for an all season tire, with snow capability then those are definately the tires for you.
If however you are looking at 3 season tires, i.e. spring summer, fall, and light to moderate snow
then i would recommend the following 3 tires
BFGOODRICH Traction TA/V, H
Yokohama Avid V4S
Bridgestone Potenzas Re950s (check tire rack to see which one ranks highest in the category)
also check out www.vtec.net it has good discussions on tires for you

People on VTEC.net said it's great, a lot tried it on their 7th gens, even on an AV6MT.

the tread is interesting looking to me. I will post a pick when I have one. I have never put new tires on a car, so I am a little anxious I hope I made the right choice!!

ok so I have not put too many miles on them, but i really like them so far! In the rain they were amazing, really held the road, I drove them on about 2" of slush/snow and the breaking was awesome. dry pavement is better then the mich. that came with the car. Only have about 100 miles on them so far but I will keep everyone posted. I bought them at the goodyear dealer with 6 months 0% and rebates totaling $100. that makes it almost half of what the mv4's would have cost.

hey, how much did they cost total? (if you don't mind me asking!)

I paid $110 each, plus install = $520 I think.

I assume those are "directional" tires, i.e. they can only be installed on the right or the left...how do you know which side they belong on?
OwAce
01-19-2005, 10:05 AM
you cant rotate them without taking them off the alloys.
you just make sure that they are pointing in the direction of rotation as marked on the sidewall.
my1staccord
01-19-2005, 11:43 AM
yes they are directional, they have to be rotated front to back same side, you dont cross them to the other side of the car. They dont have to be installed right or left, they just have to "face" forward, if that makes sense. they kind of make a V shape and the bottom of the V should point to the front of the car.

and if you do rotate them then you need to unmount and remount them with the inside on the outside when you switch them over to the other side (confused as yet?) to prevent uneven wear on them.

Please report back with noise & comfort impressions when you get a chance. I'm teetering between these, or ComforTred's at the moment.
I can no long tolerate the OE Michelin MXV4 S8's in day-day city driving. They do a very poor job of soaking up broken pavement harshness IMHO.
Thanks so much!

From the pics on your web site, it looks like you already changed tires, MackDaddy...got some low profiles on there?
Also, what tires do you have on your 2k Accord?

I'm back to OE wheels & tires. Suspension is currently:
Accord 6MT damper & spring assemblies
Accord 6MT front upper strut brace
Acura CL-S 19mm rear sway bar
the 2k Accord SE sedan is my mothers car. I put Falken ZIEX ZE-512's on for her about 6 month ago. They're a bit noiser than I care for, but she seems to like them just fine.
Thanks

Boy do I agree! I realize that no V rated tire will have a cushy ride but they are a bit harsh for my taste. On the other hand they do have what appears to be fairly long life. I am not overly impressed with the wet traction either.
The Koenig and Pirelli (sp?) combo looks great.

Yes they did. Oh well, they're long gone now. Shift in priorities these days (as in building a new house.)

sorry I didnt get back to you earlier, I was out of town for the past week.
I love the triple tread, I dont think they are noisy, but my hearing is not the best so dont be upset with me if you disagree! I think the tracktion is much better. most of my driving has been on wet and snow filled roads and they handle very well. I would recomend them to anyone.

MackDaddy - what is your understanding of the difference between Comfortred and Tripletred?

ComforTred - geared towards a softer ride, with respectable all weather capabilities.
TripleTred - geared towards superior all weather capabilites, with respectable ride comfort.
My take thus far.

Just to let everyone know....
We got hammered with snow yesterday. No more than a couple of inches, but the drive home from work last night was a nightmare. 1.5 hours of drive time to get home, where normally it takes 20-25 minutes. Bumper-to-bumper traffic everywhere you looked!
The Michelin MXV4 S8's are terrible. My traction control & ABS went crazy all the way home. These tires not only ride "rough & choppy" on most of the roads I travel daily, but can't grip or brake worth a crap in snow & ice. I'm sorry, but they're no good in this area of the country (for me at least.)
I'm getting some TripleTred's ASAP!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with you on that assessment, and I will add that they are nothing special on wet roads either...
One thing I have been trying to figure out - how do you know if the "rough and choppy" ride is the tires or the car's suspension? I thought the manufacturers usually chose their tires based on ride comfort?

I remember it being "rough & choppy" when it was new (my first impression in comparison to the 6th Gens.) I'd have to say the additional suspension stiffening didn't help matters any in the "ride comfort" dept., but I'm still of the mind set changing the tires will improve it to the point I can live with. Plus, as we both agree, the Michelin's suck. Plain and simple! :blah:

Not yet. Since I've sold my condo (building a new house!,) I'm hessitant to spend money. :D
Might yet still get these tires..... someday! ;)
Just got the oem michelins off at 41,000 miles and got goodyear triple tread all around total cost was $545.00 at the goodyear shop. Do these tires get roatated at the same miles as the honda oem and in what position?

Im seriously conisdering the triple treads for my 04 EX V6 4door. I have the oem S8's right now. Wondering if anyone has an updated review on the goodyear tires after putting some miles on the car.

I just put on the Goodyear Comfort-treads in the stock P205-60r16 size. Comes in H speed rating vs OE "V" rating.
These tires are like night/day vs the OE Michelins. In fact I have the OE Michelins on the stock v6 rims with only 900 miles on them in case anyone wants to buy them...
So much quieter and smoother. Grips better in rain also. We don't have snow in Hawaii where I live... If you DO have snow, I would suggest the Triple-Tread tire... If no snow at all, the Comfort-tread will work great for you...
It comes with a 30 day ride guarantee for those of you who wants to try it out first... If you don't like it, they'll give you full credit to use towards another Goodyear tire; you pay the diff iff it's more expensive but get the diff back if the tire you want is cheaper than the Triple/Comfort Treads.... A 10 out of 10!

Just put Triple Treads on. Nice tires. A bit heavy thought at 25 lbs per tire. Very quiet. Traction is excellent. I paid $101 per tire.

They're great tires. My Godmother has them on her odyssey and they've still got plenty of tread after 45k miles. Amazing. I really wanted them but they were just too much for the little driving I do a year. I ended up going with the Bridgestone Potenza G009's. They're probably good for no more than 50k miles (Warranty period), but that will take me 5yrs to do at this rate and I may not even have the car then.
I paid about $650 for all 4 wheels - 195/60/15's - I'm very happy, though I think anything is better than those things they call tires that come on 4cyl Accords.

I'll be needing tires in 2 months. My current tire size is 215/50/17 would it be ok if i went 215/60/17 or 55 To get smoother ride...cuz i know the 03-07 V6 came with 205/60/16. what do you guys think?

Either sizes will work, it will also fill the gap between the tire and the fenderwell, and you will get a bit more comfort everything else being equal.
It will also throw the speedometer and oddometer off by just a bit, techncially you would be "falsefying" the true mileage as the larger tire will show less miles given the same distance travelled, but it's such a small percetange I wouldn't worry about it.
Lastly, you will also loose a tiny bit of acceleration but again I wouldn't worry about it with the V6 you have.

Those are fairly heavy tires, at least, compared to others. I hope you don't have an uneven weight distribution that isn't easily fixable with re-balancing....a problem the heavier tires sometimes seem to have.
Do think this is an issue with the coupe? I'm getting a slight vibration at 80 mph . Will have them rebalance them tomorrow.

I certainly would not go 215/60/17. That is too big of a difference in diameter from the stock tires IMHO. Instead I would stay 215/50 or go to 225/50 and just buy tires that are geared towards a softer ride.
