When the engine is idle and you open the hood, to hear the valves?

It may be the clicking of the PVC valve you are hearing.

What is PVC valve and where is it? The clicking I am referring to coming right from the top of the engine.
And if it is indeed the PVC valve - is this OK, is it normal?

Its good chance what you are hearing is the fuel injectors clicking.
Honda's fuel injectors are on the loud side, I know the 2008 2.4L are and probably yours too.

That's fine (loud) as long as it's normal, and not some kind of bad valves coming at me :paranoid:

I don't think it just started, I guess this is the first time I noticed that. I have the car for 3.5 years now, it was a leased car until a month ago so I didn't really pay too much intention because my intention was to get a new lease. Things turned out that I wasn't getting a new lease but rather I bought the car from Honda, so obviously as an owner I now pay more intention to things.

I've got an '05 I4 with about 35k miles - clicking from the injectors has been noticible from the first day, and hasn't changed a bit. Valves might be slightly heard, but most of what you hear is the injectors. My son's '04 Civic with the 1.7L I4 was the same way - injectors the main sound.

Ok, well that sounds normal then, As I said before you will definitely hear clicking from in front of engine with the hood up.

You mean, PCV valve.

PVC is a type of plastic, or pipe

looks like we missed answering the PCV question.
The PCV (positive crankcase Ventilation value) is a form of check value (spring loaded) which is mounted up front and in middle of block on 2.4L, it has vacuum hose going to the intake manifold.
What it does is prevent crankcase pressure from developing which would case oil leaks, carbon deposits etc. It tends to make slight clicking noise at low speeds(idling).

here more info if you like on it.

Our 05 I4 makes some noise. Its clearly the valves and injectors. And its clearly two different noises. The K24 isn't near as quite as my daughters 03 I4 Camry.

As for the PCV its a weighted valve and is all most always in some state of open. Ive never heard one clatter unless it was coning apart. And then the engine ran very bad. To test one hooked up to the hose with the engine running will produce a clunk and clatter. But by doing this your only using one of the forces at work. The other being the postive crank case pressure. They work in a balancing act so to speak. And most times very smooth.
