View Full Version : Is this a GOOD DEAL on a 08 ACCORD?
walhaddi 05-28-2008, 07:11 PM Hello,
I am thinking about getting a new Honda Acord. I would love to get the coupe, but I will get the SEDAN.
I made an offer to all the dealerships in my local area for a FULLY LOADED V6 Accord Sedan in DIAMOND WHITE with everything (leather, Navigation, HONDA remote starter, trunk tray, all season mats and the cargo hooks) for $31K and 0% financing for 3 years if I pay $6K down.
So far I have gotten this deal for the same car described above:
$30,400 (Out of door price) without the all season mats, trunk tray and cargo hooks, but with .9% financing for 3 years.
I have also gotten this deal:
$30,900 for everything including the 0% financing for 3 years with out the mats, trunk tray and cargo hooks.
What do you think? Should I just take the $30,900 or keep fighting for a better deal?
btw, are the cargo hooks good? Let me know
dexterdog 05-28-2008, 08:20 PM Depends on your location. Here where I live you can get a better deal. All the dealers are hurtin' to sell cars. Where are you located?
native.texan 05-29-2008, 04:52 AM I'm not quite sure, but I think you may be able to do better.
You may want to take a swing over to the Accord Purchasing forum at Edmunds. There, you should be able to get more "real-time" numbers.
Do you not have a trade?
Also, it is my practice to negotiate prices of accessories separately. In other words, get the pice of the car nailed down - definitively, then try to work on the extras. Push for either 50% off price, free install - whatever. Or, if the dealer is not coming down on price, you may agree to it **IF* included in the purchase price are the accessories you want. I would think twice about the Honda Remote Starter, because if you did not previously read the operating instructions, it is a bit cumbersome to operate.
mike.
stevencrosbie 05-29-2008, 06:27 AM I agree with others. There is no reason why you can't get close to invoice on that car. The dealers here are giving them away at invoice and are advertising that fact.
Once you negotiate that price, then consider talking about the accessories or buying a car without them. 30k is a lot of money for an Accord. As well, try to quote us prices that are not OTD. Don't include taxes and all of that since we don't know the tax rate of your local area.
Step 1: Get the invoice for the car at edmunds
Step 2: Offer them invoice
Step 3: Either negoiate from there, or start emailing all of the dealerships within a few hundred miles for quotes on a new Accord.
Step 4: Financing rates are negotiable as well. I don't know the current offers, but if yuou can get 0% on the Accord, they shouldn't be adjusting the price of the car to different rates.
Just registered on this forum - I am picking up a blue 08 EX-L V6 non-navi today for $28,200 drive out (Goodson Honda - Houston) for my wife. I think from what I have seen this is an average price. Car had some fluff stuff on it - trunk tray, mudguards, etc. and also included tinted windows. We looked at several dealers and really found a pretty wide variance in pricing for the same trim level which was not a real surprise to tell the truth. This dealer also included an extension of the 5/60K powertrain warranty to a lifetime/unlimited mile warranty.
We looked at everything from 2-3 yr old C class to Nissan/Acura/etc and thought that the accord was the best value. I was very surprised at the looks and interior finish of the car, felt very upscale. We also liked the feel/drive of the V6 and its competitive mileage. We were also willing to take a chance on new series run bugs based on (hopefully) general Honda reputation. This is our first Honda.

LIFETIME/UNLIMITED MILE WARRANTY AT NO EXTRA COST!?....FROM HONDA???...GET DA F$%# OUTTA HERE.

That's not unheard of. Not sure about the fine print though. There's a KIA dealership near here that includes lifetime warranty, AND lifetime oil changes on all new KIA's they sell.

Many times, though, warranties such as the aforementioned are limited, solely, to the dealer from whence they were purchased, and are neither a product of Honda Corporate, nor transferrable to another dealer.

Thats Kia. Honda need no incentives to sell their cars
stevencrosbie 05-29-2008, 09:15 AM Thats Kia. Honda need no incentives to sell their cars
Really....that's odd....
RDX, TL, Accord (06-07 models), Ridgeline, and Pilot all needed heavy incentives to move their cars off of the lots....
This Accord will see incentives as well. Maybe not this year...but next.
elp_jc 05-29-2008, 09:16 AM Besides any other restrictions, 'lifetime' ONLY applies to ORIGINAL OWNERS. People rarely keep their cars over 5 years, so it's just another gimmick for most buyers.
And yes, when comparing prices, PLEASE mention all charges and fees, but BEFORE TTL; otherwise no way to compare them. I was given $28,500 for a 6MT with Navi, which is $235 over 'invoice'. Those are usually sold a bit higher, but on 4 doors you should be able to get that kind of deal all day long. Good luck.

Particularly the Ridgeline, in my neck of the woods, is going for dirt cheap.
mike.
I now have the car and the paperwork.
Lifetime Limited Warranty - same basis of coverage as original mfg warranty with a $100 deductable per repair after original 5/60 coverage. Good at Honda dealerships nationwide but it is a third party underwriter. Non-transferable. Must keep records of maintenance. However, if it's included anyway and I can get the car at a competitive price, then the problem is ....?
I'm fine with this additional warranty and I could care less about the next owner since we tend to keep our cars forever.
Base price $26,315, drive out $28,199. I also bought an extended full coverage 5/100k for $850 that I added to the down payment to avoid financing it, so I gained a couple of years and 64K miles over base warranty. If I never use it fine, but for the wife this included roadside assistance and rental car from today plus I get out of having to fix anything other than routine maintenance. Original asking price for extended warranty was $1580 which I would never pay as these can be shopped online, but must be done within 6k miles or else they treat it as pre-owned.
If years and miles from now I find that the $850 was completely wasted because the car has been great I will be quite happy.
I'm sure that there are better and worse deals out there. This was mine.
Car looks absolutely great.
walhaddi 05-29-2008, 02:38 PM So the dealer I thought I got a deal with turned around at the last moment and told me the deal was for the car we talked about without the HONDA REMOTE STARTER. They also told me that the remote starter will cost me $671+tax which is a lot I think.
Now I am going back to the dealer I walked out of the door at the last second. I will ask for the V6 fully loaded with the HONDA remote starter and 0% financing for 3 years for $30,900 like we agreed on last week. I bet he will change his mind, but if he does, then F him and I more likely won't get a car this year then.
I heard some some people that the HONDA remote starter is not good. Is that true?
ESHBG 05-29-2008, 02:54 PM There are so many nice cars in the $30,000+ category, and I would NEVER pay that for a Honda Accord...I know you can get a better deal elsewhere.
tbowie 05-29-2008, 03:04 PM Paid 23k+t&t for a 2008 i4 5AT EX-L Sedan with 2.9% financing for 60mo.
JamieJam1AIM 05-29-2008, 03:16 PM tbow you need to scan you P/O and wipe out the names adress and vin #'s thats the only way Ill buy that one... sorry.... the DEAD Cost invoice is 24,300 before delivery charges 635.00 t&T&T

Like what?
- Pontiac G8.. Not a chance to get for sticker right now, plus it's a crap American car
- Camry... Way too conservative looks and not nearly as nice as the Accord
- Altima/Maxima... Nissan is crap
- Sonata.. Korean...
What else is left in this price range for this nice of a car?
walhaddi 05-29-2008, 03:43 PM I agree, there isn't a lot of choices better than the ACCORD for $31K out of the door price.
Plus, for the $31K I am getting a navi, leather and sunroof and also I think it is the closest thing to getting an Acura TL.
The Pontiac G8 is the only vehicle I might be interested in, but I don't know how it will be in 3-5 years.

At first look, the G8 sounds like a great alternative to the Accord. It's got a V8 and rear wheel drive but that is where the advantage ends. I think the Accord has a MUCH better interior/exterior design and probably gives a much better ride. My mom has a Pontiac Grand Am and it just feels so cheap inside...
yfd76 05-29-2008, 05:27 PM I got my 08 accord sedan EX-L V6 with Navi for 29650 out the door. I live in NC and had to go to SC to get the deal also got the .9 financing for 3 years. Only dealer installed accesories were the splsh guards and wheel locks. You can get most accesories on line at a reduced price. I'd keep shopping
elp_jc 05-29-2008, 05:36 PM Pontiac G8.. Not a chance to get for sticker right now, plus it's a crap Australian car
Fixed it for you:D. Oh, and V8 is optional. And I wouldn't buy one either. Later.

I have mad negotiating skills. Don't forget the dealer's ~$700in holdback. They made enough off of me.
walhaddi 05-29-2008, 07:35 PM I appreciate all the replies guys.
The G8 has a V8 (Which I don't like)
The G8 is a rear wheel drive (Which I don't like because I live in MI)
The interior in my opinion is plain in the G8
Now for the guy who got the Accord V6 loaded for $28some, I will be getting almost the same deal you got bro.
Becuase I am getting 0% financing (Thats almost $350)
Also the HONDA remote starter is included (Thats almost $700 with installation)
No delership in MI want to give me the deal I told you about ($30,900 for the V6 LOADED with the HONDA remote starter installed)
SatinSilver 05-30-2008, 08:42 AM What about an 09 TSX? Saw one yesterday on the road for the first time and liked it. Its grown up so the size is right.
The new owner seemed to like it by the way she was driving(fast). Had temp tags on it as opposed to dealer plates(test drive).
ABubba22 05-30-2008, 08:51 AM Spoke to a dealer today on Brooklyn, NY .. Told me invoice on a V4 EX-L w/ Navigation is $26400 + $200 DMV + Tax (8.375%) = $28811
elp_jc 05-30-2008, 11:23 AM Told me invoice on a V4 EX-L w/ Navigation is $26400 + $200 DMV + Tax (8.375%) = $28811
I'd buy it in a heartbeat, as you'd have the only V4 Accord ever made:lmao:. Just giving you a hard time. Check invoice prices at Edmunds.com or Yahoo cars. You should be able to get a deal $500 over invoice or less. Good luck.

If you don't like any of those options, how about a new TSX or a new or slightly used TL?
I dunno, the 8th gen doesn't impress me much at all and I think it's a little out of the price range it should be in; no matter how much we love them, a Honda Accord is still a Honda Accord at the end of the day and saying "Honda Accord" with "$30,000+" just doesn't seem to go together IMO. If it didn't have the strange behaving VCM, the so-so interior and a few other quirks, I may feel differently, but...
justeddie 05-30-2008, 02:17 PM I have mad negotiating skills. Don't forget the dealer's ~$700in holdback. They made enough off of me.
tbowie... the holdback on vehicles average only 1-2% off the MRSP. Getting a car for a couple of hundred over invoice is NEVER a bad deal.
If you guys were wondering - Got mine for $28,000+tax. No reg. or document fees (I was a dealer myself but not anymore).
dbassett74 05-30-2008, 02:18 PM Are you basing your judgment on the 94 that's in your signature? This is the first Japanese car that I've ever owned and I really think it's a wonderful car. Is it a bit pricey? Sure, but everything else is too. $30,000 was the max for me and I really believe this is the best car in that price range. I don't like the TSX or TL because they are smaller cars. I wanted something a little bigger than the smallish American cars that I've previously owned. I have no issues with my VCM. My buddy with an older Pilot complains about his, but after taking a ride in my Accord, he said that he couldn't even tell I had VCM. So they must have fixed it.
walhaddi 05-30-2008, 03:37 PM Ok, I have been reading all the replies and it seems like some people don't like this Accord, but I do.
I signed on the car and will pick it up tomorrow. However, I will be returning the car next Wednesday so they can put the remote starter in it and will pick it up the following day.
I walked in the dealer today happy and left happy and can't wait until tomorrow to pick it up.
I will be buying some things like a HONDA keychain, chrome liscense frame and other stuff.
One question I had though, for the all season mats, should I get the black ones or the beige? My car will have beige interior, but I don't want something that will get dirty quick.
What about the trunk tray? Is it good? Last the cargo hooks? Are they good?

ESHBG 05-30-2008, 06:06 PM Are you basing your judgment on the 94 that's in your signature?
Yes, I base all of my decisions and opinions of vehicles in 2008 off of my '94 Accord.
To each their own and I am not saying the '08 is a bad vehicle by any means (styling is always subjective and not something you can put a whole lot of stock in, as it varies from person to person). But Honda has always said to me, "A little pricey? Sometimes, sure, but you still get a lot of vehicle for the money, and solid quality." Also, their styling has always stood out to me. But with this model, not so much unfortunately and I have mistaken the new Accord for other vehicles at quick glances. I NEVER did that with prior generations. And when it comes to the interior, well to me, it just looks and feels a little cheap and "bland".
If this car were $27K, maybe. But over $30,000 sticker price on many lots?!? Come on, Honda! In that price range w/ little negotiation one can pick up a barely used G, IS, TL/TSX...
But enough of all of that and my intentions aren't to bash this generation Accord, not by a long shot, I was just pointing out how I feel about the price. If you're happy, walhaddi, and you feel that you got a good deal, I am happy for you and that is all that matters!
walhaddi 05-30-2008, 06:51 PM I am happy and I feel completely different about this HONDA ACCORD. I have always liked HONDAs, but never got one.
The side and back looks like a BMW 5 series. The interior I LOVE.
Like you said it is ajust a matter of opinion. I am the type of person that would like something if I LIKE It. Most of the things I liked growing up I liked them by myself and not because of what other people think of them. Then over time those things I liked people started liking. You might find yourself in an Accord a year from now or may be not. But I know for sure I will be sitting in one tomorrow :)
nednj36 05-30-2008, 09:38 PM build the vehicle on edmunds or honda.com with base invoice, options invoice, and freight. add up all the invoice prices plus freight and offer the dealer $300 less than that number.
That's right, you tell them that a competitor offer you the vehicle for $300 below invoice. Make the deal tomorrow (end of the month)
good luck
walhaddi 06-01-2008, 10:09 AM I got the car yesterday. I drove it so far for 50 miles and I am satisfied.
I don't drive crazy (Thats how I always been) so I see the ECO light A LOT. I see it about more than 50% of the time.
I did notice how the engine surges when it changes from 6-4-3 cylinders, but it doesn't bother me at all.
I also noticed the road noise people are speaking about, but that doesn't bother me a lot. For me you just can't have something perfect and this car in my opinion is near perfect. If the road noise will kill you, then thats when you turn on the speaker system :)
I will drop it off next Wednesday to get the Honda Remote Starter installed.
I took the front license bracket, because I don't need it. I am happy with the car.
I need to ask people some questions though:
1) I am planning on buying the all season mats and my car is beige or ivory from inside. You think I should get the beige mats or black ones? I heard with the black you can't see the dirt like the beige.
2) Is the trunk tray any good?
3) Are the cargo hooks worth it? Can they be installed without that expensive tool?
club_euro2 06-02-2008, 11:50 AM I would go with the black mats. I also have the trunk tray.
http://www.collegehillshonda.com/storeart/8thgenaccsedan/allseasonmats.jpg
elp_jc 06-02-2008, 02:41 PM I would go with the black mats.
Me too, since the beige also has black carpet/mats. If I had known this before, I'd probably have ordered the white car. Oh well. My last Coupe had the interior all beige, and I hated how easy the mats and carpet stained. But with TX heat, I much prefer a lighter leather on the seats. This will be my first black interior; hopefully it won't be that bad. It definitely looks better. If only seats and door inserts were beige (a la BMW), it'd have been perfect.
