ebay ...seller is expresslegend...he sells with or without the template for drilling...the one with the template is a bit more ...i offered him 150 plus shipping and he accepted ..sucky though i had to pay tax since i live in texas :thumbsdow...and by the way this is a genuine honda part not some cheap knock off ..and the paint was perfect

You said you only used the double sided tape which means no drilling which means no template needed correct??

exactly ...but dont pay what he has on there just offer him 150 and see what he says...he told me he usually only goes to 160 but he went to 150 for me because i had to pay 12 bucks in taxes

Wow, looks good! :D

How strong is the 3M tape? How would the tape hold up compared to drilling?

morcheez
05-29-2008, 01:50 PM
well 3m is a very good product no matter what it is ...and its not suppose to come off after 12 hours without some sort of releasing agent....i will tell u how it feels tomorrow evening

This looks cool, def let us know what it is like tomorrow, I'm just a little skeptical about the tape, I mean will it hold up to weather and stuff like that, I'm assuming its stronger then scotch tape, but its still tape.

I'm also no way confident in drilling so I would go the tape method if it's as legit as it says.

rofl, yeah 3M is waayyyyyy stronger than most any other tape
its a pretty light piece overall id assume, so any probs wont be noticed till down the road due to weather and such...if any at all

Looks great, how much tape is there? Is it just over a few areas or does it cover the entire spoiler?

yes this stuff was extremely tacky ...nothign like the black 3m tape u see at most auto parts stores used for emblems and such...this stuff was actually clear..and the spoiler wieghs next to nothing considering its completely hollow..and the tape is waterproof also so weather shouldnt be an issue

just felt it like an hour ago so its been on 4 hours tops and its pretty solid ...still moved just a tad if u push down but its not coming off without ample force

they gave me a small roll of it but it will cover the entire spoiler area ...they also give u the bolts u need to mount it if u go that way ...but with the cheaper of the two auctions u dont get the template for it

looks awesome!

i wonder how the tape will hold up in extreme moisture conditions ie. non stop rain for a few days or massive snow piling up on it overnight etc

I love it and I was disappointed when my Honda Rep told me that they don't make this option for the I4s because I think the other spoiler waaaay over the top.

One thing that concerns me is how the tape is going to hold up during the summer with the extreme heat.

Yeah that's what I was worried about so I went w/ both drilling and taping.
Having an extra protection is :thmsup:

not sure what everyone is worried about ...this stuff is stronger than the tape that holds all the emblems on the car and they dont just fall off ...its not like im going to sit on it

What kind of tape did you use? Is it 3M Automotive Acrylic Plus or VHB?

I'm about to stick mine on with VHB. VHB is supposedly the strongest tape ever made...

Pretty sure you can tell which one is the before pic. 3M VHB is the tape used. I used tape only and it's on there pretty good.

My sister has a 06' Acura TSX. I got her a lip spoiler and just used the 3M tape. The car has been through two winters and two humid-as-hell summers and it is has endured longer than the front bumper.

So basically, drilling isn't required.

So check this out. I called my Honda Service center and asked them if I buy the part would they be able to put it on and I was told they wouldn't put it on because they consider it an after market part. Even though the part was being sold by a another dealer.

Pretty sure you can tell which one is the before pic. 3M VHB is the tape used. I used tape only and it's on there pretty good.

There are many types of VHB tapes but the one you used is not suitable for spoiler installation. I'm not saying it's gonna fall off or anything but it's relatively weaker than the clear tapes. Wasn't your tape dark-colored?(if I remember correctly...)

I'd recommend models that start with 49 (ex. 49xx), especially the clear ones. I used to supply 3M tapes to dealers and they preferred (also we recommended) those models for body kit installation, body-side molding, etc.
They do cost some money ($70~100 a roll) but definetly worth it.

Yeah, it's black with red lining. Man, you do know your tapes. Well, for now it's good. I do live in New England so I guess I'll see how it holds up during the winter...

The model I got started with 5..and it's very conformable. It was bout $40 for 15 yds.

I bought a roll of 4910 1/2" 36 yard for $35 shipped on ebay... HUGE roll. Yes, it's clear. Would come in handy for mounting various stuff on the car. According to 3M, the 4910 is good for 300 degrees Fahrenheit for a couple hours and 200 degrees sustained (days). Hope that's enough. Metal gets pretty hot out in the sun....
