View Full Version : Tell me how we did....
olliequeen 05-30-2008, 09:56 PM This is probably putting the cart before the horse but I found out about this forum after the purchase.
We just bought an '08 Accord EX-L V4 for $24504. That price included the upgraded Stinger alarm, the extended warranty for 60 months or 80K, TTL and the gap insurance.
It seemed like a pretty good deal to us, but I'm curious what others think?
Also, what's the thought on gap insurance? I'm skeptical about it. I understand it's purpose, but is it really a necessity or something to pass on.
Thanks for any input.
thats a really good deal if its post tax+other crap, sadly i could only get 22800+TTL which equals out to be like 25700, and its an EX not EX-L heh
That's a great deal!
P.S. i4 not V4 :)
Hondaboy9602 05-31-2008, 02:33 AM Congratulation on the new car. Post pictures when you get a chance. We would love to see it.
npolite 05-31-2008, 05:36 AM Yep that's a great deal. One of my family members is picking up an EX (not L) today and the best he got was 22,800 ~24,288 after TTL.
I think he could have negotiated better but he isn't one of those haggling types like me.
Well, as comparison, I got the i4 EX-L AT for 25,500 OTD. That's 23500 + TTL. Dealer thrown in tint, wheel lock, trunk tray and splash guard. I drove the car off the lot with 4 miles on the odo. That was back in February.
If I remember correctly, the invoice of the car was 24,100 - 700 hold back, so the actual price that the dealership paid Honda was 23,400. So, either Honda is having some sort of promotion, or the dealership made a boo boo, because 24500 OTD is lower than what they paid for the car after TTL.
justeddie 05-31-2008, 05:48 AM If that is the actual final price you are seeing in your finance contract (it has the bank logo in the top corner), not the retail order (it has the dealer logo up top), then you pretty much stole the vehicle. Great Buy! :notworthy
Either case, even if you paid the stated amount for just the vehicle it is a good buy.
Osiris_x11 05-31-2008, 06:15 AM We just bought an '08 Accord EX-L V4...You didn't state whether you got a coupe -or- sedan and whether it's an automatic transmission -or- manual! Each has it's own MSRP.
Also, where are you located (ie. % sales tax)?
Anyways, for reference...
2008 Honda Accord Sedan EX-L 5-Spd MT
Invoice: $23,340
MSRP: $25,695
2008 Honda Accord Sedan EX-L 5-Spd AT
Invoice: $24,063
MSRP: $26,495
That's a great deal!
P.S. i4 not V4 :)
No, its k24z3 not i4, dum!@#$ lol jk
j35z2 is v6! woo:banana:
andysinnh 05-31-2008, 09:03 AM In regards to gap insurance - it really depends on how much you financed, and the particular car. Hondas tend to lose a bit in the first year and level pretty well. If you financed everything, then gap insurance would be OK for the first year or so, and then likely not important beyond that. If you financed a lower amount, then gap insurance was likely not needed.
As a counter-point, we took gap insurance on both of our Fords, simply because their value TANKS in the first 2 years, and then eventually levels. Last thing I wanted was to get into an accident and then have to come up with a few grand just to pay the loan off.
All Honda leases come with gap insurance, btw. A lease is something that gap insurance is a must for, IMHO.

tbowie 05-31-2008, 10:12 AM I found that gap was much cheaper through my insurance agent then what the dealer wanted to charge me for it.

My car is financed and insured with USAA. GAP insurance was at no extra charge.:)

I went with the Honda financing since no one could match their 2.9 for 60 months. I want to say the dealer wanted something like $1000 for gap vs a couple bucks a month from my insurance agent.
stevencrosbie 05-31-2008, 07:43 PM I love USAA
olliequeen 06-01-2008, 02:20 PM Thanks for all the input... however, after speaking to my wife, we may not have explained this right... let me try it this way:
The car was a V4 2008 Accord Sedan EX-L. The sticker was around 27,500. Before we did anything else (i.e. our trade in), we got them down to 23, 995. Then with the upgraded Stinger alarm, gap, and the warranty, plus TTL, minus our trade in of $3750, we were OTD at $24504. Still seems like a good deal but with our trade factored in, my wife was confused if this still made it a really good deal. Let us know.. thanks.
so you paid 24505 + 3750 = 28255
Compares to what I paid for mine, 25500 OTD, that's $2755 you paid in upgrade and warranties (Singer alarm, gap, extended warranty)
Well, considering extended warranty is around 1K, Gap around $500 , and Stinger alarm, $500 (these are high figures), you overpaid by about $800. This is assuming the dealership gave you a fair value for the trade in.
PS. It's i4, not V4, stop it! :)

As aforementioned...
2008 Honda Accord Sedan EX-L 5-Spd MT (manual transmission)
Invoice: $23,340
MSRP: $25,695
2008 Honda Accord Sedan EX-L 5-Spd AT (automatic transmission)
Invoice: $24,063
MSRP: $26,495If you got a manual transmission, you're just slightly above invoice. It's a fair deal, indeed.
If you got an automatic transmission, your right at invoice. That's a good deal.
I had the chance to get a Polished Metal Metallic/black '08 Accord Sedan EX-L I4 automatic transmission for $23,498 (before TTL) in late April, but it sold by the time I arrived at the dealership (San Antonio).
In Georgia, there was a Alabaster Silver/black '08 Accord Sedan EX-L I4 automatic transmission being offered for $23,338 (before TTL) at the same time.
Accordlover 06-02-2008, 06:31 AM Sounds like you did ok, but for future reference, stay away from dealer add-on alarms. I think it's odd how people are so concerned about the 8th gen being broken into or stolen. The Honda alarm from the factory may not have a bunch of fancy features on it, but the ignition is coded, and you'd have to have at least 20 minutes if you were planning on jacking the stereo; then you 'd have a radio that only works in the 08 Accord, lessening reason to steal it.
In older Hondas, the radios were universal for the most part, and very easy to rip out. These days that doesn't seem to be the case and therefore I say save some money and turn a dealer down when they offer you an 'amazing' alarm.
One question, the warranty on the car is 5 years / 60k miles powertrain, and 3 years / 36k miles bumper to bumper. What gets covered in the warranty that you bought for 5 years / 80k. Also, why did you decide to keep it at 5 years??? Is this a HondaCare warranty? - How much was it?
Sorry for all the questions and my little rant.
native.texan 06-02-2008, 01:42 PM Congratulations!
The deal, itself, seems to be a decent one; however, I don't understand the purpose behind the "upraded stinger alarm." The Honda Factory alarm should be more than sufficient.
mike.
olliequeen 06-02-2008, 01:57 PM Thanks for all the feedback. To answer the questions above:
1) it's an automatic. I always used to drive manuals but somewhere along the way that changed, and I can't say I miss the clutch. :)
2)Re: the warranty, it was the Honda Car Care. We got it for $1140. As I understand it, it's just extending the initial warranty to 5 years or 80K, so all the same things under the initial warranty should be covered for the longer period of time. Normally I don't do that sort of thing, but because there is so much extra electronic doo-dads that have the potential to go defective, I felt better having it.
3) As far as the alarm, we may've fallen prey to horror stories a bit... we've always just had basic factory alarms, but we've not necessarily driven the makes and models that are the popular ones to be stolen. With the Honda, as I've read, they are popular w/thieves so we got the upgraded alarm with the pressure sensors.
