View Full Version : Headlight Housing Misaligned/Not Flush with body
arasheht 06-17-2008, 09:55 AM I was recently washing my car, when I noticed that the upper corner of my headlights are not the same "flushness" so to say. The driver-side top-right corner of the headlight housing is flush with the body, where the passenger-side headlight housing looks normal, but is about a good 3-4mm deeper into the fender. I'm hopefully getting it fixed in the next days by Honda, but could the 8th generation COUPE owners go check to see if their headlights are the same condition? Maybe this might be a factory defect.

justeddie 06-17-2008, 10:02 AM Every car is going to have their little defects.
For me, the console isnt completely flush with the dash.
But as far as the lights go... mine is fine.
Should be an easy fix.

I noticed this the first day I got mine... its the way they are I guess. its only a milimeter or two off/difference. I checked all my channels and gaps to when new... they are not 100% perfect, but I still like my car
buuckznguyen 06-17-2008, 12:00 PM I noticed that too
Same for the sedan, not 100% flush either. http://i32.tinypic.com/348ltub.jpg
eRock9er 06-17-2008, 02:56 PM I just dropped my car off this morning to take care of this issue. Mine are so misaligned in places they're chipping the paint around the housing. This is happening in both headlight housings, mostly along the bottom edge and the outer corners. The Service Manager said he would get the Regional Service person to come and take a look.

Interestingly enough I'm getting my bumper refit too. As for the jagged edges towards the grill just outside the headlight housing (on the bumper), I'm hoping for the shop honda is sending it for to fix it also. Hope the regional manager finds something to get it fixed for everyone.
elp_jc 06-17-2008, 03:24 PM The left one is misaligned on my car too, but I think it's barely clearing the bumper cover. It's not that noticeable. I'm so disappointed at quality control of ALL cars now that I'm a lot more tolerant now. Don't plan to mess with it unless it's touching the bumper cover, since it'd start chipping it sooner or later. Quality has taken a dump, especially on first year model cars.
Hey, does anybody have pics? They'd complement this thread nicely. Later.

I'll try to take some tonight, stay tuned.
eRock9er 06-17-2008, 03:31 PM Unfortunately not, I was in a hurry to get it in to the shop and I just didn't have time to get photos. Really wish I had though.
MSchu 06-17-2008, 05:01 PM Here ya go... FYI, that is Bug goop after a high speed pass the last weekend

Dose it bother me? Not really, I have come to expect things made by others to be less than inspiring. I do wish it was correct, but I am not going to loose any sleep over it
arasheht 06-17-2008, 05:04 PM Thats EXACTLY how mine is. Factory flaw perhaps?
MSchu 06-17-2008, 05:07 PM I am thinking there may be an adjustment in there some where, I have not looked for it though and its really only 3-4mm's(first it was 1-2mm... now its 3-4mm :D) At the worst I can picture some washers to help flush the light face. What we HAVE NOT thought about here is perhaps the light vender has issues with its tolerances... as the bodywork looks perfect!
morcheez 06-17-2008, 05:42 PM mine is not like that ...if it was i would have said already :)...hope they fix u up
PMMKar 06-17-2008, 08:27 PM I actually have a similar problem with the driver's side tail light not lining up properly. It's jammed against the bumper so hard that it looks like it might eventually crack under the stress. Going to have Honda realign it this weekend.
nighthawkcoupe 06-17-2008, 08:33 PM Get that taillight fixed... I'm too lazy to dig it up, but someone posted pics of a taillight like that that ended up chipping the bumper. I believe they said honda is going to have to pay to repaint the bumper.

I checked mine, seems to be alright. I'll draw that to their attention though.
My dual-climate zone fan button (the up and down one in the center) squeeks too as described by someone else. I'm afraid that when I bring it up to them that they will mock me maybe? In any case, should I tell them to replace the center console too as one of the other members on this board did?
chrisl 06-17-2008, 10:20 PM My passenger side headlamp was just as bad. Dealer tried to realign, but was unsuccessful the first time. Dealer spoke with the DM (who had no solution), so they decided to order a replacement housing which was installed successfully and solved the problem. Service manager said a new housing was probably not necessary and most likely the housing only needed realignment.
This week I noticed that my tail lamps are too tight against the rear bumper and is chipping the paint. Will need to get them realigned before it gets worse.
jang859 06-17-2008, 10:24 PM One of my TAILIGHTS is misaligned. It sticks OUT farther than the other, lol.
justeddie 06-18-2008, 08:10 AM Two things FORUMS make you:
1: Spend all your money on mods (I compare it to women buying shoes)
2: Paranoid at all times :paranoid:
And I love it!
With that said... I did a full alignment check on my body and everything is perfect. BUT now I found a sizeable dent on my right-rear quarter panel.
See what forums do to you?! Thanks guys!:bawl:
bukxanger 06-22-2008, 11:33 AM i checked mine yesterday and i found the same problem... my driver side was okay but my passenger side sunk in a little... but after reading the whole forum now i'll have to check my taillights after work..!!
arasheht 06-22-2008, 01:13 PM I got mine fixed yesterday. The lights are finally flush with the body. The bumper on the other hand was not touched whatsoever. The regional representative of Honda was at the dealership and he verified that it should not YET get fixed until paint chips start showing. I guess this is where the 5 years warranty comes in pretty handy.
bukxanger 06-24-2008, 01:59 PM I just checked my taillights... there are lil bubbly spots and they will probably be chipping soon... good thing i'm takin my car in this thursday!!
