Mostly I've been satisfied with the [non-nav] audio system in my Accord, but over the last month or so, slot 4 has been reluctant to play, and now it seems that it doesn't want to play anything at all. Last week on the way back from NYC, I couldn't get *anything* to play. I turned it off for a couple of days, and then it seemed to work fine, except slot 4.

Anyone else having problems?

The head unit on the new Accords have been problematic. Honda has been inconsistent in dealing with it....sometimes it will replace it completely free out of good will (out of warranty), sometimes they make the owner pay half, sometimes no help. Check over at VTEC.net, there have been huge discussions on headunit failures before, though I don't recall if it was this particular issue.

In that message, GeishaStarr also posts a link to another thread that talks about failed head units.

This post might be closer to the problem that you're having

BenjiBoy, you're right; your second link is pretty much what I have going on. And thanks for the TSB, Princess...knowledge is power!

In that case, I wouldn't get too hopeful. Even if Honda covers it under warranty, I believe that the head unit was backordered for a long time the last time I checked. Apparently since it is a common problem, they just can't make enough of these things.

My CD Changer in 04 gave up playing, loading or ejecting CDs. I disconnected the battery, reconnected it and entered the diagnosis mode (before entering security code) by pressing #1, #6 and power at the same time. The message showed U 1237 and L 2730. Does anybody know what this mean ? It then asked for the security code upon entered plays only the radio, not even show the CDs inside (at the top of the display). It sounds like the 04 is not any better than 03 radio units !

PS. Thank you for the Happy Birthday message.

i currently own a 03 EX L i4 coupe and the piece of shit cd changer just stopped working. i just get an 'err' message and cant even get my cds out. this is the second major problem ive had (power lock had to be replaced on passenger side for $300) since the warranty ran out. i love my honda but am i very disappointed in the quality. i went to the dealer and scheaduled me an appointment to see what was goin on...if they will make me pay over $300 for a new unit, i think i will just get an aftermarket system. do u guys have any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum! The weekends are pretty quiet here....

Sorry to hear that you, too, have a CD player that died!

This is the only thing I've found on it....

If you can't open it, save, then open. If that doesn't work go to the Pit & there's suggestions in there.

Still having this problem, though of course now I'm at almost 39k, so no more warranty. Would I still theoretically be covered under the TSB, or would I be looking to pay out to have it fixed?

On top of that, any idea if they'd be able to fix it without hacking up the dash?

A lot of the time Honda will make a goodwill or perhaps a partial good will (seen people pay half ~$180)

just because there is a TSB, doesn't mean warranty will fix it out of warranty. ben is right, they may split the cost with you. your best bet is making sure that the problem was documented for your car before you were out of warranty.

Well, ONE YEAR LATER, I finally made some calls on my CD changer problem, since it has now completely and utterly refused to work. After what I would call a fairly low-pressure face-to-face argument on my part and the required 'diagnosis,' the service manager told me Honda was going to take care of the replacement on my now-49k Accord :D

So that's a happy tale. Took the car in for the 'diagnosis' last Friday and am getting the work done a week from tomorrow - not too bad, considering the long waits I'd heard about for replacements. Just in time for another trip to NYC on 9/9 (for the NYC Century Ride, if anyone else is doing it).

My question at this point is: does anyone know exactly WHAT is wrong with these changers, and how the 'new' one corrects this flaw?

Sorry to be annoying and bump my own post, but I'm really curious to see if anyone knows exactly what the problem is, and how it was remedied on later models (and hopefully the remanufactured/replacement units!).

Replacement tomorrow!

Not that I know of. I've heard the new replacements are good though. I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm sure someone knows the cause to the failures....

I have an '06 EX-L sedan w/navi. I bought it in December of '05. About 1 month after I bought it, the CD changer would not read dsics and gave me nothing but an error message. I had the entire unit replaced under warranty and have had no trouble since.

I would have thought they'd have figured it out by '06!

Mine sure works great now...sounds different when loading discs, too. All that matters is that for maybe the first time since I've had the car, the Pixies' 'Bossanova' loaded and played immediately!
