Was your 2008 V-6 six speed coupe made in Japan or the USA?
If the VIN begins with J it is a Japan model. I'm just curious what the origin is.
Since this is posted in the 2008 section it is for 2008 owners only.

I keep hearing of these mythical Japanese units, no one has posted there has the J moniker have they?
Every Honda I have owned has been a J model... including one built at the Lengendary Suzuka Factory, I never should have sold that car

My Coupe is an H VIN and built in Ohio as I'm pretty sure all of them are.

Last I knew, Coupes are rare birds around the globe and are mostly only for the US and Canada. I read at one point that they're built in Ohio in left and right hand drive models and exported to a small handful of countries but I'm not sure where.

I'd be curious to hear if this has changed.

Does Japan and elsewhere get the coupe?

If I recall a past (many months ago) Motor Trend article correctly, coupes are U.S. produced and possibly limited to 50,000 unit production.

Coupes are only made in the states.

I know I have the 5spd but mine was made in the U.S. but the transmission was made in the Philippines if that helps.

DAMN! I'm bummed but perhaps for no reason......we'll see as these get some miles on them. I'd like to see a window sticker that shows where the engine and tranny come from. Guess it's time for a call and perhaps a trip to the closest dealer.

Also, all V6's come from North America.

FYI - Honda's Japan website:

http://www.honda.co.jp/auto/

23 5 door van/crossovers/truck looking things, a dozen sedans, but no Accord Coupe.

I wouldn't be bummed.

Since 95 every Accord V6 has been made here.

I thought not. Mine was built in the old US of A, probably the reason for the production variances we are seeing

Thanks but it does not. The thread was very specific.

Thank you. I must admit I'm a little disappointed. Since my only personal Honda experience has been with a J-Spec I had hoped that the v-6 six speed coupes were also produced there. No matter, time will tell. Were I to purchase one it would be an '09 or later to make sure bugs had been worked out. I can't help it ......I want something with some muscle. Not V-8 muscle as I can't afford it. V-6 muscle with a well made 6 speed stick will satisfy me. Altima came close but the 6 speed stick sucks. Onward with the hunt.

Since I drive so little fuel mileage is not the governing factor but I would like to keep it reasonable. So far the V-6 six speed 2008 Coupe (and I prefer a sedan) is the closest I have seen as far as reasonable price and reasonable fuel consumption.

I'm like stevel.....I just want something new and I can afford to do so. Making me crazy? YES, it damn sure is.

Accordlover I know you have the taste for a new car also.......it's a thirst that you can't quench until you have it. Know what I mean?

The only 08 J-vins I found were all I-4 Sedans.

I think the Vin chart P has posted in The Factory Facs spells out all possibilities.:dunno:

I have the thirst! :lmao:

Me, I'm just gonna sit back at watch all the people getting 10mpg in their giant land yachts suffer as gas prices go up. Then, I will post my car for hundreds more than book value and go get my new car. So far, I tried selling the 96 Accord and had people willing to pay $4150 for it, and someone was begging to buy the 86 from me for $975. I know have a feel as for what my cars are worth and plan to re-list them near the end of the year.

Gotta love the used Honda market, it's pretty awesome! RTF, if you sell that Accord let me know, I'm interested!

If I do get something new the current one will positively be sold not traded. It's got a whopping 31,800 miles on it. I have to decide if I can live with a coupe or not but they are larger inside than previous generations.

Tex - I highly recommend the Coupe. How often do you have people in the back seat of your sedan? Since I moved to NC, its very rare I have more than one passenger. I wa hesitant about going to a coupe after 5 sedans but I haven't looked back. Actually, the rear seat is a comfortable place to be for 2 people. You should climb back there yourself, put the front seat up, and see for yourself.

Hell, whoever you're giving a ride to should just be glad they're not walking anyway.

I wouldn't worry about the J vs H VINs. My last few Hondas have been Ohio bred and besides a few rattles, they've been excellent cars. I was once of the camp that believed the J built vehicle were somehow better but there really isn't any basis of that perspective. The closest argument could be something about the UAW's Japanese counterparts caring more about their work (which I feel is true due to their more esoteric culture) but the Ohio Honda plant isn't union and from what I've read here and there, the workers are a pretty devote, capable bunch.

My 2 cents...

Same here, coming from 3 J VIN Honda/Acura, I had to think real hard before finally deciding to give the Ohio built Accords a try.

So far, other than the unexpected windshield washer fluid pump shorting itself out, there had been no unexpected repairs at all, I'm a pretty happy camper with this 2.5 years old built in Ohio car.
