Has anyone else noticed a popping noise coming from an area close to the floor pan on the driver's side? The noise happens upon acceleration from a dead stop. You can almost feel the popping noise in your right foot. It also happens at times when coming to a stop as well. This issue has been brought to light in other Accord forums, but I have yet to see it being discussed here.

Quite a few have complained about a popping sound on the Edmunds Accord forums. It seems some early model 03's had this problem and some were remedied with a floor pan weld somewhere on the drivers side.

I have 2003 Accord DX M/T Canadian model. I am still struggling with Honda Canada and service department. Not sure what to do about it. I am afraid there is structural fault (net welded well or something). At least that's what service is trying to determine. I already spent more then 20 hours in service trying to locate the source of the noise. Nothing yet. Don't know how much Honda is willing to pay until they find and fix the problem. So far I believe the cost is already over $2000. How far can they go?

My car has on-going issue with a popping noise with accelerating and decelerating. I’ve had the dealer ‘fix’ it a few times. From now on, I’m going to post what the dealer puts in the repair notes. Hopefully its fixed this time.

Overall, I’ve been very pleased with my Accord, but I must admit, this ongoing popping noise is starting to drive me in sane.

From the Invoice:
B Customer is still hearing a pop noise as accelerates or decelerates (history) noise was gone for several weeks after last repair, now is back.
Cause: Correct creaking noise

115: possibly tech's ID?
W93: sounds like code for warranty time
.07: is the time Honda allows for the repair.

Why in the world would they make a body shop do the other bulletin?? Honda EXPECTS the techs do be able to do it! The Pilot's had a spot weld thing & the techs had to do it....

Being down low, it sounds like the problem more than the A pillar thing....doesn't it? Just sounds like a slight body panel flexing, which a weld or two would cure.

They DO get points for trying, right?:) If I hear of anything else making sounds during accell/decell, I'll post it.

I'm curious, is the sound around more when it's cold outside or warmer.... ?

It started early this winter so I don't know if it will continue when it is 110 out this summer. I have noticed the sound gets louder and more frequent after heavy in-town driving. I'll just keep taking it back until they get it fixed. Thank god for the extended warrenty.

Does it do it as soon as you leave (cold start) or after it's up to running temp?

Those warranties are life savers sometimes!! Just gotta watch out for the holes.... OK, dumb..... I couldn't help myself.....I'm really tired!

I had the same noise in my 03LXG. The first time I tooki it to the dealer they simply stamped the spot that is supposed to be welded. That lasted a month. When I brought it back, I told them I had a friend that had a simular problem and that the dealer he took it to found a service bulletin that said "weld" it. Touch wood, I have not heard a popping noice since.

It does it at running temp.

Then it DOES sound like the bulletin about the little welds.... when the metals warm up from the engine's heat, it expands...then rubs. Does that sound logical to you? I haven't heard it in mine...& next time I drive her she's gonna seem as quiet as a tomb after driving the Pilot this week with it's knobby tires!!:) But later I'll try & listen for something that fits the description in mine.

I DO hear the brake system grunt as I reach the end of the driveway. I hear the passenger seatbelt I if I didn't position it just right as I got out last, when going down the road. I have been known to pull over to rearrange things in the cubby if someone went through it & didn't put it all back how I had it. I have thrown away water bottles the boys have left in there because of noise. So I'll listen for a "pop" when I accell/decell when I get her back.....

It does. If it starts again, I'll point that out to my dealer.

Well, my car is back in the shop again to 'fix' the problem -- again. According to my tech, it has to go over to the body shop for some welding. They should have it done tommorrow. I'll post the repair ticket after I get my car.

In the meantime, I'm in a renal (compliments of Honda) - 2005 Dodge Dakota - talk about a slight adjustment. I feel like I'm riding around on top of a ladder.

Okay - well, so far so good, but my work is only a mile from the dealer...

Here is the info from the repair ticket:
