My job declared 15.5% profit sharing last week, and I've just been itching to find some way to do something to the Accord. So, I zipped on over to my local import shop to see what they could offer in the way of intakes. An AEM cold air intake was on-hand. Took about 2.5 milliseconds for me to snag it.

Being that arthritis has reared its ugly presence in my hands, I anted up the $75 for installation since they could do it right now. I'm an impulse maven.

The CAI went for $206, plus install and the bypass valve. I am quite satisfied with that pricing.

So, the results are nice. First, I weighed all of the removed components. 12 pounds of plastic obstruction to airflow!!

Noise? Not much at all. I had recently removed the rubber grommet between the air filter box and the resonator assembly, which put a small bit of growl into the airflow. Moving to the CAI really didn't change the sound much at all, other than when blipping the throttle at idle in neutral.

I just had to do it. I like to give my vehicle every chance possible to be efficient for my style of driving. I'll try to get some pics this weekend and add to the thread.

I love my AEM V2 CAI. It's neat hearing that V6 inhale without restriction at WOT. WOW

Dallas,

Did they reset the computer by disconnecting the negative battery cable?

Congrats on the $$$ and the CAI.

Don't you love it when something smacks you in the head like this? LOL I get that at work, but the problem is that it has to go across time zones globally, so I might get the "D'oh" but can't correct it until tomorrow (at least in my time zone)...

No, they didn't (which by installation instructions they SHOULD have). Thanks for reminding me of something I should have thought about. This means resetting the stereo presets, etc., but it gets the mill to new parameters faster than letting it evenutally adapt (which of course it does). But, obviously, I'm a want-it-faster-right-now kind of person!! Always have been. Good catch!!!:D

I'm real cautious about claims, due to flames...

But, I just believe that eliminating restriction enables performance. That's about as PC as I can state it. With that in mind...

I accelerated into a left hand intersection, holding the car in L1 until I straightened out (the car) and then punched it. She JUMPED. The midrange feels the difference.

Off the line isn't really any too different, but the 15-25 mph rolling punch has been lit up.

The CAI responds differently to each application - sometimes in low end, mid-range or high end or some combination of all.

So far, the midrange punch is what I've felt, but it has only been a day. I have noticed that the traction control light seems to be lit up a whole bunch more than before - whether more to additional power or additional driver foot factor yet to be determined.

This is probably old news but the 7th gen. V6 Accords seem to respond quite nicely to CAI. Not all the cars react the same with a significant return of horsepower and or torque, but the V6 Accord like'm. Dyno tests seem to show about 18hp and 15ft/lbs of torque at 6K rpm. Now this info could be inflated and or slanted by AEM but regardless the V6 7th gen engine loves the unrestricted, cool air infow. IMHO, for us, CAI may return the most bang for the buck. Running 91/93 octane fuel and a CAI you may realize a 25-28 hp gain, IMHO.

I'd believe that the car actually got a lot faster. The Honda V6's and the new K-series engine seems to be a little bit restricted in breathing (intake and exhaust), so the gain isn't unreal. I don't think AEM is inflating the claims either, some RSX owners have dynoed their cars to confirm that the AEM dynos are spot on. If only the CAI did much for my car besides decrease torque below 3000RPM...gee I'd buy it in an instant...lol

I'm considering the AEM short ram for my '04 2.4l 5 speed stick. I've had the CAI's before and they were great but they are a real pain in the tailfeathers to install and maintain.

I've had a short ram also but it was on a Mazda V-6. It was the only thing available at the time and I was pleased with the performance and sound.

The thing holding me back is simple, I love the quietness of Honda's 4 banger 2.4l. The CAI that I installed on an '03 Corolla was loud, as expected, but it was alllllll the time, not just at full gallop. I don't want the Honda to be the same way, only when I honk on it. I'd hate to spend the $$ and be displeased.

Not pitching a product here but my AEM V2 is close to stock quiet until you get on it. Then,Impressive......most impressive.

I am still waiting for pic :D :D

I've had my car for almost 3yrs and havent done anything to it. I am itchin to do something. All my other cars I had or made CAI for and they made noticble improvements. I am the kinda guy that has to take something apart to see how it works.

Correct. Now don't quote me on this but it seems that I have read that the 4's have some issue with a sensor that makes it not so easy to utilize. I'm not sure i'm just resurrecting old thoughts.
I'm sure someone here can straighten me and or you out on this.

Some of the new Accords have a MAF sensor in the intake tract somewhere, installing a CAI messes with this thing big time and any attempt to correct it would probably cost more than the CAI itself. AEM clearly states that it won't work with the 4 door AT w/ MAF. You can reference this site here, it has dynoes for the CAI and V2.

Thanks guys, I had seen that on their site. Mine is a manual shift LEV so there should be no problems.

When we first got our 7th gen, I had an Injen RD cold air on order. To get an idea of what it would sound like I pulled the resonator out of the fender and just left the stock airbox and filter on. It was SO LOUD that it rattled the dash. It was much louder than my 01 F23A with a short ram was. I decided that I could not live with that level of noise in such a nice car and I cancelled my order.

FWIW....YMMV

BTW.... I have the K24 5MT
