View Full Version : Civic Si - Anyone consider an Si before you bought your Accord?

I am currently in a 2008 Honda Civic Si Sedan & am trading it in for a 09 Accord Coupe LX-S....I realized it's a downgrade performance wise & the si may have a few additional features but I think I'll be happy with the switch. Personally, I feel that the accord coupe is the best looking car Honda has released (the prelude is up there too)....Performance isn't a huge issue to me. Do you consider this a downgrade? or lateral move? or upgrade?

Anyways, for those who considered the si...what made you go w/ the accord coupe?

I considered an 08 Si when i was shopping. The reason i didn't was the Accord offered so much more. While the price was a bit more, I got so much more car for the money. Interior quality, exterior styling, and performance (I went with the V6 6speed). The Civic offers a lot of the money but I was looking for a little more and haven't regreted it once.

Sometimes, I wish I bought a Si.

I like the look of the accord.

I like the performance and 6 MT of the Si.

I had a 06 si coupe....bought it barnd new
that thing was the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned
It had to have 3 brand new engines put in it
the dealership would keep it for months....
the big wigs from honda even came to see what was wrong
with the car and talk to me about it
the service advisor at my dealership told me I should have gotten a lawyer
and sued them she also showed me how much it cost them to fix each time
it somewhere around $11,000 O.O
plus I numerous other problems with that car...
I luv honda/acura but I will NEVER buy another civic
and to think.....I traded in my perfect RSX for that headache

What went/was wrong with the engines?

Were there other things wrong with the car otherwise?

I had went in to buy an 06 Accord coupe
but my salesman talked me in to buying the
sexy little white civic si on the showroom floor *shame on me*
which at the time I liked it more than the Accord
I drove it and fell in luv with her...lol
so anyways....about 3 weeks later after I bought it
I noticed one morning that there was anti-freeze leaking on the garge floor
I was like wtf?
I took her to have it checked and they said they call when they found the problem
which I thought it would be something simple....so I was like ok
they took ALL day before they called it was like before they closed
so when they called....they were like we have some bad news
*wtf?*
It was a manufacture defect in the small block of my motor that was missed by
quality...
so they had to drop my motor and replace everything....
*my mouth hit the floor*
they kept my car for like a month to repair it....and it was never the same after
about 5000 miles later it broke down again....
and again..............and again................and again.....etc lol
its funny now but at the time I was really stressed

other problems
ABS light stayed on, the trim was peeling off the headcurtian airbag covers
weather striping around the doors had to be replaced...twice
sideairbag light stayed on
TONS of rattles...the roof sounded horriable
brakes replaced 3 times

and I got rid of her with only 24000 miles on it.....

they are probably selling it for like 20 grand now too

1sickhonda

they had it for 18,900

I went back a week later to see...

I just hope the next person who bought her
has better luck than me....

oh...the defect in the small block was air bubbles that
had gotten moled into it at the factory...whan it warm up
caused it to leak

the 2nd time was bolt that broke and stripped through
the engine destroying it....
the car went crazy...lol
that was fun day spent on the side of the freeway =D

I also considered the Si due to fuel economy, and even drove one, but besides the lack of leather being a deal breaker to me, it was just too high-strung for my liking. Coming from V8s, am not ready for a 4-banger yet. Being able to afford the 6MT, that's what I got, and don't regret it one bit either. In fact, I VERY GLADLY passed up G37 and 135i. It's all the car I need. Is it perfect? No, but it's the best VALUE by far, and that's what I look for now. Later gang.

Why don't you like your car ?

I love the way it drives....I'm just more of a coupe person. I figure, I can drive a 4-dr the rest of my life, but while i'm still fairly young, i want something more sporty. my si has been completely problem free (even my 3rd gear shifts extremely smooth - a common problem w/ the si's).. & i wanted a accord coupe to begin w/ but my g/f at the time said she didnt like the back & that i needed a 4dr car (she was trying to talk to me into having kids i think b/c she had mentioned stuff almost since we first started dating).

i like the car, i just have wanted an accord coupe since i first saw the concept.

At least you now know not to take a female who is not your wife car shopping. You end up with something you regret after she has moved on.

Next time, run far away if a girl talks about kids in the first few months of a relationship. That's just crossing the line.

I never considered by the Civic SI...I'm 6'2" and 265....the ride wouldn't have been comfortable one bit. The overall style, fit and finish is what made me lean towards the accord coupe. Not to mention the dependability of Honda.

My last car was a 98 maxima.

I know you've heard of this a lot, but "If you like it, go for it."

I also can tell this:

1. You wouldn't feel sporty anymore in the accord that you feel from the Si.

2. I'm now sure what you're thinking of getting either I4 or V6, but you'd better get the V6 (it has VCM though);otherwise, you might miss the Si for the performance.

Nevertheless, my answer is "If you like it, go for it" since both are great

could anyone explain how the 08 civic SI performs better than ,say LX-S coupe ?
cause looking at weight of SI at 2950 vers 2250 and the lack of torque and were peak torque/Hp is it seems way peaky to me.
Which is ok if you don't mind keeping rev's up all the time and on a light car but IMO the 08 Civic lost its light weight advantage with the upgrade (same as 08 accord but accord got K24, more drivability IMO )

believe me, i dont use the si to its full potential, so performance isn't a huge factor for me. yes, from time to time i do get on the si (rarely), but i dont think i'll miss it overly much. the lx-s 5spd isn't terrible performing either....i think the spot i'll miss the most is the nimbleness of the si, but i'll forget about it when i look at the accord coupe (much better looking imo). they are head turners, si's are not.

Your mistake was buying a 06 Civic. I got bit also on a 06 Civic EX Sedan. It was GMish front to rear. And I dumped it for my Mazda3.

I hope you didn't get screwed on the first year of a new gen on Accord. I learned my lesson. Can't even trust Honda to do it right the first year. With new engines and stuff in your Si. I would think it was the dealer that kept screwing up. Hondas screw up was to keep letting them be a dealer.

A Si will eat a I4 be it coupe or sedan alive. It out runs the Accord. Out turns it,, out brakes it. And if you look at the specs the latest k24's are getting on the pesky peaky side also.

If I had to have a new Honda none hybrid car coupe or sedan. I would by a Si over Accord anything at the drop of a hat.

I was considering a civic coupe, because I've owned a civic before, so I know it's fun to drive, but thats about it. Unfortunately there is nothing luxury about it, and never has been, and I wanted to upgrade cars, not just models.

It's also shorter and has a skinnier track with less wheel well. so really, it all depends on the race... Oh Yeah... It has Macpherson Struts instead of control arms:thumbsdow

That depends what you want to do with your car though. Luxury at the price of performance is not too bad a price to pay IMO.

I test drove a type s RSX 06 model and it was so noisy and high strung it turned me off aginst the SI all together. I dont care its if say 25% quieter its would still be too much.

i had a hard time choosing between a si sedan w/navi and the lx-s. they were pretty much the same price except the si had navi/moonroof/better seats/6 speed/and better engine.

but downfall came to it used premium, has 7hp more than lx-s but 40tq less and still used premium. and i got pretty sick looking at the tach to shift, then looking at the speedometer then looking up and kept going back and forth. made me very sick during the test drive.

I had an 05 RSX S before my Accord so the SI was not even a thought. IMO the SI is nice but it is a step down from the RSX-S. The SI is not even in the same universe as my EX-L V6. The SI is kind of a kid car IMO

I concidered it...However the Accord Coupe is a much better looking car and much bigger. I didnt want to look like a rice rocket racer so the decision was easy. Even tho the SI's performance is good the accord I4 is not a horrible performer either.

I am near the end of life with my lemon-Accord. It seems that every 2 weeks, something new is breaking on it. This weekend, the drivers window came loose from the track and is rattling when closed. GAWD, I hate this car

I'll be getting a Civic sedan. just haven't decided on the Si (for the fun) or the LX stick for the economics (as I drive a crapload of miles) and since gas prices will never go down, the LX sounds great for the wallet

Why decide on si or lx? why not si or ex-l/navi. comes with heated seats/mirrors. kinda like having the fuel efficient car with most of the luxuries of your accord.

Get a EX Sedan. I liked mine a lot but it was a lemon like your Accord. Nothing but problems.

I learned my lesson. No first year Hondas. Im going to have to really watch myself when CR-Z comes out. but I think I can do it after the burning I took on my civic.

I would look at a sweet EX 5MT Civic Coupe for a commuter. It would be pretty nice, but they are pricey....that's a tough sell.

Good luck K757....I and Psy have been there with the lemon vehicles....and you almost feel alone when trying to get the issues resolved. We both had to trade out of them in order to fix our problems.

When I went to the Honda dealership last month, I had both the Civic Si and Accord coupe in mind. Being a previous Civic owner, I felt very comfortable with the size, features and handling of the Si. However, when it came time to test drive the Accord Coupe EX-L, everything just felt more "upscale" & "professional".

Finally, it came down to which car I'd see myself driving for the next 3-4 years (I'm 25 years old). I didn't want to be a 28 year old driving a "teen" car. I couldn't be happier with my decision to go with the Accord :)

this is kind of the same boat i'm in now...the accord is more "professional", less "teen" & plus, I'm 6'2", so i think the comfort level in the accord may be a little better for me. I am 25 y/o also....so I in the next 5-7 yrs, the accord will suit me better. i drove fast & hard when i was 18 years old....not my thing anymore.

I test drove the Civic SI and I couldn't get over the high RPMS at low speeds. I felt goofy when I was in 3rd gear at 30 mph @ 4500 RPM (something like that). I like a high revving car, but I do a lot of rush hour driving. Plus, it was the sedan. They didn't have a coupe to test drive. I felt crammed in like a sardine. It just didn't feel all that sporty coming from a del sol. The del sol had better shoulder space.

Then I test drove the Accord....and it was all over. No excess engine noise, more room, and more lower end torque feel. The radio wasn't on but I could hear orchestra music playing (in my head).

Another way to think about a car is......I'll be 32 when I'm done paying off my car. I wanted a more mature yet sporty car.

You drive a Mazda... have you driven an Si and an 8G Accord?

I considered an Si when I shopped for a car and decided that I could live with the difference in performance (even with my I-4) for the added luxury and comfort of the Accord. The numbers did the rest... the Si advantage in (lease) payments with my EX-L 5MT is almost negated by the (real world) fuel consumption and added cost of premium fuel.

But I will admit that the K24 needs the 5MT to really shine...

Drive the Si and drive the Accord, you'll see where each car's strengths are!
